"We had our first date here 20 years ago so went back for the anniversary. Food was excellent, service was outstanding and the ambience was good. The restaurant was rather noisy from the mechanical systems so it detracted from the quiet atmosphere a restaurant like this should have. With a bit of thought the ambience could be elevated to outstanding at very reasonable expense. As a side note, the prices were surprisingly similar to what they were on our first date - that was impressive. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give them a solid 8.5, but a 10 if they quiet the background noise and make it more intimate!"

"The reviews I received from an aquaintence recommended this restaurant for our son's graduation dinner. The location is great, off the Halifax water front. The meal was not spectacular for an award winning restaurant. The waiter seemed uninterested with us, the serving of drinks and food was not coordinated as we were not all served together. We made reservations over a month in advance and were seated by a bussing station. I would say this restaurant is more of a bistro and not fine dining, the pasta was over cooked but at least the sauce had favor. For the price (average $60 a person) I expected WOW, not mama's best on nicer plates. I would recommend this restaurant for people who don't mind suffering quality over location. They don't try"

"This is a truly superb restaurant. It has a very nice feel. The staff are friendly (but not excessively so) and knowledgable about the menu. The wine list is fairly priced and interesting. There are not a lot of choices within each region or style, but the wines on the list reflect a keen eye for quality and are good examples of their type - neophytes will not go far wrong, and oenophiles will find many good choices. On top of that the food is truly world class. Great use is made of local ingredients and the dishes are prepared with the subtlety and appreciation of freshness that is characteristic of the best Italian cooking. If it was in Calgary I'd eat there every week. Worth a substantial detour if you appreciate good food."

"My wife and I frequent many of the higher end Halifax restaurants on a fairly regular basis, da Maurizio is definite one or our favorites. When choosing a special place to celebrate her 60th birthday da Maurizio was her first choice. She was not disappointed, from the welcome at the door, the service, the presentation, the portions and taste we were extremely pleased. Thanks to the chefs and server for a great 60th birthday evening."

"3 of us dined together and the 3 of us all found the food to be very good. There was a very good selection of wine of all price ranges which I liked very much. It was excellent to have a 'value' menu to choose from as well as I found that to have excellent choices and 2 of the 3 of us opted for that. One small and not very significant thing was the waiter at our table was a bit standofish and that may have been attributed to the fact that we were 3 girls who had lots to talk about and wanted to take our time. We were there for the evening and the waiter seemed just a bit irritated with us - but was still very accomodating and professional. I also liked that the bottle of wine that we ordered was taken off the table."

"I booked a table for a romantic night for my girlfriend's birthday. The table we received was under the stairs and my girlfriend is over six feet tall and kept having to duck... There was also many groups of people around us that were very loud which made it less than ideal. The food was above average and the service was excellent. I would recommend the restaurant but would ask for a better seeting area..."

"Everything was great except for the quantity of food.I understand quality vs. quantity and respect the presentation, however felt that paying 32.95 for a meal that had a tablespoon of potato, 1 coin of zuccini, 1 inch of carrot, and one asparagus sprout, I would prefer to stay home. Also, for a Northern Italian place, when serving pasta they should provide more than 4 "toonie" size pieces of ravioli. The sauce was great, but if I wanted to pay 16.95 for sauce, I would prefer to stay home.Presentation=great, Service=great, Food Quality= great, Food Quantity= I AM STILL HUNGRY"

"as you can see we felt that overall it was an awesome evening. however, there was one downside. Ralph ordered the duck, he was asked would medium rare be acceptable as that how it would be served. perfect, say Ralph. when dining on the duck, he was not so happy as the temperature was at the very least medium. he chose not to say anything but I know it was disappointing for him.
the rest was awesome, and so was the experience. the calamari and the eggplant were up to the usual perfection.
we love it there, the hostess was just excellent as were the wait staff.

"This was a favorite restaurant of our son's when he lived in Halifax.This was our first time there and it was exceptional.The food was a step above what i have experienced in high end restaurants I have experienced.Most importantly,it was served hot which always seems a problem in many restaurants.Well done da Maurizio."

"Mt husband and I were celebrating his birthday and decided to go to your restaurant. I was surprised by the average taste of the food and the saltiness of the risotto and the blandness of the mash that came with my rack of lamb. The sauce on the lamb was not original, and it tasted salty and something I could have made at home. My husband's halibut was cooked wonderfully and the lamb itself was cooked perfect. I was disappointed in the flavors of this dishes.
It was not worth the 200 dollars, and Web did not even have wine."

"duck was unfortunately tough...the rest of the meal was lovely. service was very professional....perhaps not as friendly at first but he warmed up and became quite nice. the atmosphere is lovely with just the right amount of quiet/noise to show a busy, happening place without chaos. we will return!"

"Da Maurizio was as usual fabulous! From the moment we walked into the restaurant - we were greeted by one of the owners who is always so wonderful and welcoming. We choose the fixed menu which was just so good. The service was outstanding as usual - our server was Carl - he is everything you want in a waiter and more. Overall it was a very pleasant experience. Our favourite restaurant in Halifax."
