"We were a little delayed in getting to our table at the time of our reservation but the manager was nice to come out and talk to us and let us know. One member in our party was a vegetarian and there was a separate printed menu for her. The table side preparation of the ahi tuna tartare was great and the taste was even better. Same with the table side spinach salad. The filet was cooked perfectly for everyone at the table and was delicious. Only 1 error in the evening. One of the vegetarian side dishes, sauté spinach, was incorrectly made with bacon in it which was the way it was prepared on the main menu. They comped the entire vegetarian meal because of that. All turned out at the end. Wine selection very good and reasonably priced."

"Excellent food. Went recently for a birthday celebration with a little trepidation, as finances were tight after tax season! We were quite pleasantly surprised to find that on Sundays, John Howie offers a 'family style dinner for four' option. It was perfect for us. I appreciate that John Howie is fine dining without the snootiness in service that sometimes accompanies it. Our server and the sommelier were down to earth, friendly, and obviously experienced without being haughty: thank you!"

"The stereotypical expense-account steak house. Huge portions of everything from sides to steaks (their smallest sized steaks are more than filling). Pretty impressive wine list (at similarly impressive prices). We got an 1996 Bordeaux that was perfectly decanted by the sommelier at the table with the requisite ceremony for such a wine. The food was very good, but nothing was exceptional. We sampled the scallops, french onion soup, green salad, American Wagyu NY strip, Prime and American Wagyu fillet combination. All were well prepared and well presented. Service was attentive, but tended toward chatty and intrusive instead of the paragon of efficient and unobtrusive."

"There’s a reason why John Howie’s Steak was recently voted Readers' Choice "Best Steak" in Seattle Magazine. The quality and variety of steak cuts is unequalled, and the grill master nailed the temperature for all my party’s steaks. The level of detail in table set-up between courses by both the server and back waiter was extremely good. We also enjoyed many of the old school table side preparations for salads, sauces, and dessert. The bacon tempura appetizer is a must try."

"Three out of the four dinners were very good. Mine, however, was a complete disaster. As I told them, I have never had a worse serving of prime rib. After several bites (could not even really cut it with the knife offered), I quit trying. They agreed "it wasn't up to their standard" and comped the dessert and an appetizer ... not nearly equivalent to the price of that entree.
It was enough for me not to go there again, nor to recommend it. I do not understand how the executive chef could have let that plate go out the kitchen door.
In my opinion, they should have comped the entree on the spot.
The service was exquisite."

"Was my 21st birthday, I didn't get the table I had asked for in my reservation, but at the end of the night it didnt matter as the service, food and people were excellent. I had gotten a free glass of wine and my dessert was free as well. The people there know how to take care of their customers. The food is so filling I got steak and a side of mashed potatoes I couldn't finish it. I suggest going here its sets a high standard now that i've been there."

"Overall I thought our dinner was really good but I'm extremely picky about having my food prepared properly. I ordered the lamb and although it was very tasty it was cooked to a med-med well. Everyone good lamb eater knows it should be prepared rare-med rare. I was sharing the plate with a friend so I didn't ask them to remake it. My salad was over dressed as well. For the prices at this restaurant I expected the food preparation to be spot on! The tuna tartar was excellent as well as the banana foster."

"From the moment we arrived we received impeccable service. The hospitality, knowledge, and attentiveness were excellent. We had a party of 5 and each member was able to converse as the noise level was moderate. Each person in our party remarked at how well the food and the service were. "Have been to John Howie half a dozen times and it's always been great. This time it wasn't. Our waiter wasn't very attentive, forgot my pre-dinner drink order altogether, and skipped out on the little chocolate truffle at the end of the meal. The food this time was a disappointment. We usually get the Chateaubriand for two which is fantastic. This time it was overcooked on one end to the point where the outside was slightly charred. Salad and dessert were good as always. I'm hoping it was just an off night, but it makes you rethink spending $250+ if the experience is lacking."

"This was my first time at John Howie Steak, and everything was delicious - the finest and most flavorful prime rib I have had in many years, with excellent side dishes and a wonderful meyer lemon tart for dessert. "That was the third time we've been there. It supposed to be a very high end steak Hoyt, but you don't get the quality compared to prices. Each time, we thought the food we got is different, but that's not true. The food quality is not really good. We also tried maestros in CA, they offer a very better quality than John Hawaii. That was the last time we went to John Hawaii! However, the service is good and the waitresses are very friendly."

"This is a great restaurant! A little on the pricey side, but the food is really good. Try the Tempura Bacon - it is truly an amazing delight! Service is top notch, atmosphere is classy but there is quite a din when it starts to fill up. A romantic atmosphere, but too noisy to be truly romantic."

"Although this is a steak house, they do a fabulous job with seafood (John Howie also owns acclaimed Seastar Restaurant), so both of us had the King salmon (wild, grilled over applewood) and shared the iceberg wedge salad (blue cheese, Kurobota bacon,). An outstanding lunch! I love their "bread" selection and three types of salt, too. (Murray River, fleur de sel and Hawaiian black salt). It's great having free parking, too.....I'll go here any day than have to deal with the parking and traffic in Seattle!"

"Didn't recieve the level of service nor experiaece I expecting. Tableside spinach salad was not interactive whatsoever, captian was flusters, with overheated pan and then simply made salad w/o saying one word other than would you like pepper on the finished salad. No descriptions, no dialogue, nothing... Waygu steak was underdone per menu description closer to rare than medium. Sides were average, food was good not great. IMHO not worth it for the price paid, it's simply not. When in Seattle area I'll stick w/ old faithful El Gaucho (Seattle) as I've never been disappointed there."
