Peli Peli
Peli Peli, Houston's most extraordinary new restaurant, is an upscale casual restaurant at the Vintage Park Shopping Center (NW Houston) that features a 30-foot tall, one-of-a-kind Acacia Tree and illuminated sky, live jazz, a Sunday brunch, full bar & lounge, an intimate private dining room and an outdoor patio facing the Piazza.
Peli Peli’s menu will feature its signature steak, chicken and seafood cuisine created by Chef Paul Friedman. Chef Paul has had over 35 years of experience in the restaurant industry, having owned and operated successful restaurant concepts in South Africa and Germany, as well as being the creator of Paul’s Pizza Shop, a nationally-recognized pizza concept in North Houston. Executive Chef Paul Friedman has utilized the Peli Peli spice in an innovative, new way to create his own infusion of spice with exotic fruits from Southern Africa and Europe such as Guava, Granadilla (passion fruit), papaya and mango.

"It should have rated a 5 but it was a little warm in there. The food is excellent. The chef told us that just the day before he was awarded the #1 chef by a national Food and Wine magazine. I can definitely see why. A very nice upscale restaurant that we needed (we only have Perry's) in this area. We had a group of 4 and everyone loved their meal. We can't wait to go back. In fact I'm going for lunch tomorrow with a friend. LOVE THAT PLACE!!!!!!!!!"

"Incredible dining experience from the ambiance to the menu selections. The food is quite tasty, very nicely prepared and presented. Wide variety of special drinks. Sea Bass was outstanding, and melted in your mouth. Must try the pap and gravy which is similar to a polenta with a different twist. Desserts to die for !"

"We loved the unique flavors and options at Peli Peli. While not overwhelmingly strange, the new and exciting flavors were like a party going on in our mouths, especially their noted specialties. Everything we tried on the menu was delicious, from appetizers, to entrees, and dessert. Loved the carrot ginger soup, and chicken skewered appetizer. Favorites entrees were the Sea Bass and Shrimp, the Esperata, and the Ribs. Favorite dessert was the Sticky Toffee bread pudding. You must the try the carrot bredie for a new side dish. Our waiter, David, was excellent, attentive, and good at describing the unique restaurant dishes and flavors. We did not try the wine or special drinks, but they looked wonderful. Also enjoyed live music."

"I will have to say the server was excellent, and I loved how the chef came out to introduce his award winning dish and made it personal for my sister as well since it was her birthday. I have been to Peli Peli 4 times and I will keep coming back. I have recommended it to several people and have never heard a bad response :) Love the food, incredible dishes and great cocktails!"

"We had our anniversary dinner. We went on a wim and were not disappointed. Food was great and service was even better. Since it was our anniversary, they took a picture of us and have it to us in a card for free. If you order dessert, the toffee cake is amazing."

"It was 7:00 pm. It would be our second dinner there this week. I was excited because I had guests from Los Angeles dining we us tonight. The dining area was busy and full of happy diners. Chef Paul was making his rounds and chatting with certain diners. Dillon was our server and did an great job! I had the Special of the Day, Surf and Turf. It was wonderful and the presentation, leasing to the eyes! Even more to the stomach. My Cali foodies were well pleased.
On a personal note. My wife and I ate there on Tuesday evening, yet no one acknowledgement. During dinner, I stopped him after the third time he pass by our table of six. I expressed how wonderful the food was and he said that its was all his mother and left. Not even" enjoy your meal."

"I took my husband to Peli Peli for his birthday and overall- we had a luxurious, memorable experience! The only reason I gave service 4 stars instead of 5 is because our reservation was set for 7:30 pm and we arrived at 7:33 and they had given our table away!! Obviously, I was really upset when we first arrived but the hostess made up for it by giving us a really awesome booth set in the corner of the restaurant that allowed us to have the best view in the house!! The waiters were excellent, the food was delicious, and the overall mood of the place was superb! I absolutely recommend this restaurant for any occasion!!"

"Saturday night (6/2) was our (my husband and I) first time to Peli Peli. For an upscale restaurant, our dining experience would have been much better had we not felt so rushed. We were not even finished with our appetizer when my salad (Greek - out of this world!) was served. Then before I even had a chance to begin my salad, our entrees were served. We prefer, when dining at such a nice restaurant with such exquisite dishes, to not feel so rushed to eat that we can't enjoy the flavors of the food ordered. The pace of serving and removing dishes was not inclined to make us feel like a welcomed guest, but one that needed to be rushed in & out the door to make way for the next patron."

"The food at Peli Peli is imaginative and delicious; on the cutting edge but not so "out there" as to be scary. It's like comfort food you didn't know about yet. My husband has grown to like couscous and (mango) cole slaw as a result of Peli Peli's food, both of which were previously on the Despised list. During our last visit, one of us had the South African Mixed Grill, which is an outstanding array of red meats for carnivores topped with a delicious poached egg. He raved. I had the Cape Town Skillet, which is a variety of extremely fresh grilled seafood, and the scallops and calamari were the best I have ever tasted, nestled as they were on a bed of African pilaf (more comfort food)."

"We love this restaurant and it is almost always superb. This time, however, our friend's steak came out underdone and our waiter disappeared. Another server took their place, but we were not sure what happened (the new waitress did not introduce herself, she just started serving). When we had completed our meal, we saw the owner (Chef Paul). Our friend showed him the under cooked steak she had in a to-go container and asked if it looked well done to him. He apologized and immediately had a manger offer a gift certificate that more than paid for her meal (and part of ours). We will definitely go back, frequently."

"Great Restaurant Overall. Wife and I have been several times and love the food and service. The place is very romantic, although a little loud. The only thing that is a real turnoff for us is that they have a large list of "unknown" specialty wines, and even though all are sold by the glass as well as by the bottle, they will NOT let you sample nor can you just pay a corking fee.... so it's hit or miss at your expense... VERY unusual in 4 star plus dining today. The managers there are excellent and actually visit every table every time it seems."

"We've visited Peli Peli several times now and have yet to be disappointed! Not that I expect to be, but usually you find a neat place you like and after a few visits, it just seems to go downhill... not Peli Peli. The feel of the place is cool and relaxed, so you could bring (well behaved) kids, but it's upscale enough to celebrate special occasions. The prices are fairly set - not cheap but not too expensive - good price for great specialty menu. The staff is informative and engages in conversation and offers recommendations, while attentive to your needs. Did I say the food is great! We've enjoyed many selections from the menu and were please every time! Looking forward to the next time!"

"We have been going to Peli Peli since it was opened. It has consistently provided great food, atmosphere and an interesting menu which seems to have some new interesting items every time we go. If you haven't tried this go. Try Happy Hour, Monday night steak night or brunch - you won't be disappointed."

"Everything my wife and I had for our anniversary dinner was absolutely heavenly. From the instant seating using Open Table reservations, to the 12 Tribes of Israel ambience, to our server, to the food, the experience was fabulous. We tried the beef Boerewors Sausage which was wonderful. We tried an excellent red wine from Peli Peli's own collection and our Hugenot steaks were simply out of this world. Our shared dessert was plenty for two and was so tasty. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for great ambience and a wonderful menu. Hands down one of the best restaurants I've been to in Houston and I've been to a lot having lived here most of my life."

"This is the best steak restaurant in Houston and we know steaks....were from Nebraska. The flavor is wonderful and you can cut it with a fork. Atmosphere, Service, Specialty Drinks are outstanding! Have eaten at Peli Peli numerous times, for numerous occassions, and have never been disappointed. You need to experience this yourself....I know you'll love it!"

"The good and service was great. The ambiance was equivalent to the Cheesecake Factory, which felt very odd to me given the $$$$ of entrees. At that price point I expected something more upscale. We went for a special occasion, but it didn't eel all that special with a high noise level, no tablecloths, huge water glasses with straws, etc. I wish I had known it was so casual."
