Review 2 for Alegrias Food from Spain

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"The whole experience was excellent. We were seated as soon as we arrived, though a couple of folks were outside trying to find parking. The Sangria was awesome. They had great vegetarian selections, we were a group of 6, most of us were vegetarians. The service was non-intrusive, even though the restaurant was full, they let us take our time. Paella was excellent and we stayed late over coffee and flan. All in all, a fantastic place with great food and service."

Review 5 for Alegrias Food from Spain

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"We had dinner had Alegrias before seeing a play in Fort Mason. The atmosphere is very pleasant. Our small plates (crab cakes, spinach) were good. The seafood special (sea bass) was excellent, as was the paella. Prices were reasonable. There were three of us, but this looks like a good place for a large group -- they have some long tables, and the food is well-suited for sharing."

Review 6 for Alegrias Food from Spain

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Loved this place. It was full of life and all kinds of people! The service was personal and earnest. The kitchen was a bit backed up so the wait for our food was a little longer than usual. Without any complaint on our part, the waiter brought complimentary tapas and a beer to keep us happy while we waited for the wonderful Paella which was delicious!"

Review 7 for Alegrias Food from Spain

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"This is one of my favorite places in SF. They have the best tapas around. They have a very good variety of plates, even for vegetarians. We had two daily specials - frog legs and a special sausage (it wasn't Chorizo, but a different name), both of which were excellent.

The service is very good and attentive. It's a very nice neighborhood restaurant which fills up fast, especially on weekends. The staff are friendly and very helpful with questions.

Also - they have the best sangria around. Period. My friends like coming here for our "sangriafest" after hiking in the Presidio.

Review 8 for Alegrias Food from Spain

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"This was a Valentine's Day Night Out. The menus was a small plate prix fixe, but this was not mentioned when we made the reservations. Selection for the prix fixe was reasonable, but some favorites were not offered. It was fine for what it was, but slightly dissappointing given the restricted offerings for the night."

Review 9 for Alegrias Food from Spain

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"First time at Alegrias. Picked it because of Opentable's recommendation. Great food, and the server was able to talk with the chef and go over the menu with me, as I have food allergies. Happily, they were able to take care of me without that fearful look in their eyes, as most restaurants seem to do. We will definitely go back for more, without the fear of food allergies!"

"Excellent experience! We went for Valentine's Day Dinner and despite having a limited menu, the food was beyond what we expected. Everything we had was wonderful including the wine. Great service and cozy and romantic atmosphere! We want to return again, but this time with more people so we can try out the entire menu!"

Review 11 for Alegrias Food from Spain

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"Alegrias' food was good. The staff is very friendly. I found their menu to be too limited for me. There were too many potato dishes. The decor is authentic Spanish I suppose, but it felt a bit dated. It is surprising that they stay so busy in the middle of so many other restaurants. The prices are not in alignment with the decor in the dining room. The service was good until the restaurant got busier, then we were ignored. It took way too long to get our check after we had finished eating. The coffee was amazing. I liked the food, but do not know if I will be back."

Review 12 for Alegrias Food from Spain

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"We have eaten at a few tapas bars in SF and one in Palo Alto. My husband and I agreed that Alegria is more like (Spanish comfort food). The food was good -- especially the tripe (we went on Valentine's day)so they had a set menu.

We were very disappointed with the shrimp .. they took notice that we had not eaten it and respectfully asked what was wrong. We explained that the shrimp tasted as though it had been boiled in plain water .. although it did have bits of garlic within the sauce .. it had not flavor. The waiter took that information to the chef .. a few minutes later we were served with the same shrimp but this time steaming hot. We tried it again .. although we ate it .. it was still a bit bland.

Review 15 for Alegrias Food from Spain

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Alegrias is a gem. Great tapas and friendly, professional staff. We were looking for a light dinner before a concert at The Palace of Fine Arts so the location was perfect. Parking was easy in the garage across the street on the corner of Lombard and Webster. Of course were a little late and they recommended the perfect tapas that were delicious and the service was excellent. We made it to our concert on time! I would highly recommend Alegrias to anyone looking for a great experience and delicious Spanish food."

"This restaurant was very good. The portions were not as large as some of the other reviews had stated, but they were sufficient. The Paella was very tasty and the Rabbit stew dish was wonderful...The staff were very accomodating and attentative. Review 21 for Alegrias Food from Spain

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"I was looking forward to the seafood and chorizo paella and it did not disappoint. Shrimp, mussels, calamari, and scallops all cooked perfectly along with slices of flavorful chorizo sausage. The dish was fragrant and the portion was filling. The meat empanadillas as an appetizer was also quite good.

The restaurant is small and cozy, quiet and refined. Not much of a bar. There was also a wonderful Pedro Ximinez sherry to top off tghe evening perfectly.

Review 23 for Alegrias Food from Spain

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"I've never had the opportunity to try tapas in Spain. Alegrias, I would imagine, is the closest I've been able to come. Walking into Alegrias, it felt like an authentic experience. The decor was nice.

As for the food, we started off with the mussels, the tortilla a la espanola, and the croquettes del dia.

The mussels, I suspect, were wild caught because the flesh was quite small in comparison to the farmed product. The flavor was also a little muddy. It wasn't a favorite.
The tortilla a la espanola was dense and crisp on the outside. Fluffy and creamy from the potatoes on the inside. The red pepper aioli was shared with the croquettes and overall the dishes were good albeit rich.
We finished with the rabbit which was indeed the high

"The best Spanish food in the Bay Area. Tapas are excellent (particular the Empanadillas de Carne), and the Paella is better than anywhere else in SF and as good as any in Spain.

Family run, well staffed and moderately, it is one of our favorites. We take foodie friends there and they are uniformly very impressed.

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"This is my favorite restaurant in the Marina!!
The food is superb! If you can't afford a trip to Spain, this is the next best thing. The flaming cheese is a favorite. My sister's favorite is the crabcakes. My favorite is the Callos. My sister and I are both fans of their paella(sp?). Everyone I've taken to Alegrais also loves the Sangria. In addition to the food, the service is outstanding. They are not obnoxious but are attentive and always there when you need them.

I've been a customer of Alegrias for 5+ years. Every person I've sent to Alegrias loves it and can't wait to go back!

"We came for the paella, and were no disappointed. However, the prices on the tapas a bit steep for the amount of food served. Next time, i may only go in for the paella -- actually, the best i've had in the Bay Area."
