Alegrias on Lombard Street offers more than 20 kinds of small plates as well as a short wine list mostly featuring selections from Spain. The restaurant is run by the Faedi Gonzalez family and has homespun warmth. Framed family photographs and Spanish travel posters adorn the walls in the two dining rooms.
"We enjoyed the warm welcome we received from the hostess and our server, Laureano, who explained the dishes to us with much confidence. My non-alcoholic drinking friends truly enjoyed the sangria. We had 2 pitchers! I liked the fact that they acknowledge the note I entered. The staff greeted me a happy birthday on our way out too!"

"Every time I return, I forget how much I enjoy Allegrias and it's foods. The food is consistently very good, and the service is extraordinary. A must visit if you like tapas. rrh"

"We loved that we could have a mix of hot and cold things, and everything was delightful. My particular favorites were the crab cakes and the omelette. The sauce with the mushrooms was divine, as well - perfect for dipping bread into.
We need to come back to try all the things we didn't have room for the first time - I'm looking forward to it."

"The chef came to check on us as we had some special requests for the calamari. We did not want them fried but 'a la plancha' and he cooked them for us like we wanted. He also did so with the shrimp and that was delicious. We ordered the calamari and the shrimp twice after we finished our paella. The paella was also very good, a bit small though. After dinner the chef came back again to check on us and see if we had a good dinner. The tortilla was also excellent. As I used to live in Spain, I can say that this place is definitely 2 thumbs up!"

"We loved the vegetable version of Paella. Not so good service, we never got the bread. When we asked for it, they gave us just the bread - no olive oil!"

"Service was slow. Food arrived at our table cold. Meat (rabbit dish) was overcooked and dry. The menu was eloquently written but the actual food lacked creativity and was poorly executed. The hostess and servers were nice but I am never going back."

"Cesar always takes care of us by making sure our experience is wonderful. We celebrate Valentine's Day there every year but we go the day after for a quieter time. The fact they are so busy on Valentine's Day is a good thing because that means he'll be there for a while. The wines are sourced with care and consideration by Cesar's son and the selection while not huge is better than adequate. Everything is perfectly chosen for the menu at hand."

"We really enjoyed Alegrias! Excellent tapas and paella served in a lovely space. The ambiance/lighting in the front room of the restaurant makes you feel like your eating in a family living room. We'll definitely plan to return again!"
