"food was very good. We almost missed the chance to order as they closed the kitchen at the time of our reservation. Open Table and their website had incorrect info about serving times. They did serve us, but was not the most pleasant greeting."

"i'm a local and a first timer! met a friend for lunch. what a great setting. even better if you can get a parking space close to the museum! there is definitely extraneous noise due to open setting/music/ tours/ but nice wines and a general relief from eating in a typical restaurant setting. imagine this would be perfect beginning or end to seeing exhibit. recommend!"

"The food can be quite good -- sometimes imaginative -- but the staff sometimes seems more congenial with each other than with guests, and the kitchen can be slow and/or overwhelmed by volume. With events and brunches, reservations can be necessary, but the staff can be passive about people who take reserved tables without having reservations. For groups, this is a problem. A pretty setting, esp. if you can eat outside; but inside the high-wide space can make it noisy."

"Nasher is a favorite spot for me as a Duke student! Had another great experience this weekend- went with the Veggie Benedict, which was great, except the eggs were overcooked :/ But I'll let it slide because I rarely have qualms about Nasher food! Also, nothing beats sitting outside on a beautiful North Carolina day. Service can be slow--was especially frustrating this time since we were the first to be seated and nearly the last to get our food, it seemed, but if you're okay with a leisurely Sunday morning brunch, the rest of the experience outweighs this con."

"Ordered poached eggs with the corned beef hash. Eggs were waaayyy overdone and the corned beef hash was really hashbrowned potatoes with a little corned beef thrown in. Taste was still good and my dining partner's french toast casserole was good. There service was OK, we felt as if we were "forgotten" for a bit even though the place wasn't that busy. Also, the current method seems to be several people waiting on your table with no dedicated server. Service might improve if tables were assigned."

"Not only was the waiting time immensely long for both ordering and the food. Also they ran out of many of the food choices, so we could only order steak. My date ordered a steak medium, and 45 minutes later when it came, it was extremely bloody, you probably couldn't even call it rare. Also our server, Aidan if i remember, got our order wrong, failed to serve us our appetizer, spent 30 minutes talking to the other diners while we were clearly ready to order. When we finished our entree and asked for a dessert menu, our server went off for another 20 minutes before finally giving us our menu. Then when our dessert came, he immediately gave us our check and was clear that he expected us to pay and leave."

"My husband and I enjoyed the special Valentine's Day dinner. We both had scallops with lobster risotto--extremely tasty and with abundant lobster meat. We shared a cheese platter before and each had a glass of wine. The open kitchen, architecture and furniture make for less than optimal acoustics, but the space is aesthetically pleasing and service was attentive without being obsequious. I was presented with a red rose at the end of the meal, which was a lovely touch."

"This is a great cafe to enjoy as part of your entire visit to the Nasher Museum. The food was simple yet very tasty and it was especially nice to be able to set a reservation time and not worry about hurry from or to one of the exhibit spaces. Due to the limited parking the museum has on-siter I would not suggest this as a place to eat if you weren't already planning a visit to the museum but it's the perfect place if you are planning on being there for the art."

"The food was very good and certainly the highlight of this dining experience. The wait staff seemed to be short handed and thus it took awhile to place an order. "We went to the Nasher looking forward to their special French menu on the closing weekend of the Matisse exhibit. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The cafe was extremely chilly, with a strong, cold draft from the HVAC system. An entertainer had been hired to play guitar and sing French songs, but given the echo chamber effect of cavernous ceilings, cement floors and lack of drapes, the amplified sound was so loud that it made conversation difficult. We had to ask for silverware. The food, when it finally came, was good, but by then we were thoroughly chilled. We were charged for an extra glass of wine that we hadn't ordered. We may go back, but only when we can sit out in the sun."

"The Nasher Cafe is convenient to visitors of the Nasher Museum. The atmosphere is decidedly casual with aluminum chairs and tables. While the food is quite tasty, the atmosphere is better suited for a casual lunch than a special dinner. With the glass windows, concrete floors, and high ceiling, the place has a tendency to be quite noisy, even with only a few diners present. On the night I was there, they had a solo singer with guitar playing what was described as French music. With the amplification of both her voice and the guitar, the music made normal conversation challenging."

"Our reservation was for 12:30, we were seated in a timely manner, but did not receive much attention from our server, was 1:15 before we got oir food. After our initial water and drinks were served, never had any refills. Were out of one item ordered.
They were obviously in the weeds, but never came by to check on us while we were waiting.
If I were to attend a show at the museum, think I'd find another place to eat lunch. There are many good restaurants in Durham, where the food is very good, and the service is better.

"Poor service - served main course not 2 minutes after serving appetizer and, when we asked the waitress to take the main courses back so they wouldn't get cold, she was clearly not happy with us. In fact, we ended up with a different server and she would avoid walking by our table. Note that the restaurant was never more than half full the entire time we were there. When we got our entrees, they were obviously the same ones that had been served 15-20 minutes earlier and had just been sitting. It appeared that they wanted to get people in and out as quickly as possible that I understood because it was the last weekend of a big exhibit, but as I mentioned before, the restaurant was never more than half full. I was very disappointed."

"Our goal was to meet at the Cafe for wine & appetizers then view the Cone Sisters collection. Not one piece of it was disappointing! The food was delivered as art and tasted just as delightful. We split the 3 cheese and the salmon trays, both offered an unexpected mix of tastes that played wonderfully together.

"The food simply isn't very good at the Nasher. The service is fine, the ambience is a bit noisy, but that is fine for a museum cafe. It is the food that will keep me from coming back. My Asian cabbage salad with chicken was the worst Asian chicken salad I've ever had, and I order them often. I recall several years back when the food was interesting. I had hoped that for the Cone show you might come up with some interesting alternatives to the usual fare, but that didn't happen. I don't typically complain, but you asked. I hope you can add some interesting items cooked on site or imported from good Durham restaurants. I am SO happy with the Cone show! Thanks for asking about the restaurant."

"Five of us luncheon at the Nasher Cafe at 11am before Matisse exhibit. I enjoyed the clam chowder but found the roasted beet salad, the signature dish, lacking. First it was served missing the goat cheese which was featured in the menu and next referring back to an old commercial I wanted to say "Where's the beet!". It was served with chopped beets plated on each side but the combined amount would not equal one full small beet. The julienne apple slices would not even equal 1/10 an apple. The spring greens, walnuts, and dressing were nice and adequate to be fair. This salad was not good value (nor filling) for the expense especially in contrast to my companions meals. No butter was served with the bread. I supposed one has to ask."

"Dinner menu was somewhat limited with only four entrees which is understandable for a museum cafe, but adding a few more "small plates" would be an attractive option. Service was slow, (they are only open for dinner on thursday nights so this can be a very busy time) but attentive and accurate."

"Love the Nasher Cafe--when we can sit outside, which we could on an unexpectedly balmy January day. Inside is just too noisy--can't hear yourself think, much less converse. But the view from the terrace is lovely, and the sun was warm.
The food is always good, and the staff delightful. Our only quibble was that they had completely run out of white wine, due to unexpectedly large attendance at an event. We had a glass of prosecco instead, but thought that might have been offered gratis, since there was no other choice.
But we will certainly come back, on a sunny (outdoor)day!"

"The cafe is located in the Nasher Art Museum at Duke Univ. It is small, but bright with lots of light plus some outdoor seating. The menu is limited as the kitchen is probably very small. When we went most of the white wines were unavailable due to a large party the previous evening. If you are visiting the museum, which is certainly worthwhile, a light lunch at the cafe makes good sense, but there are many better places to eat in Durham."

"food was very good and service was great. Very crowded (special exhibit) but they were able to accommodate 2 additional persons in our party - we had reservations which we augmented the day before.They gave us a table in spite of the fact that one person was late and there were many people waiting (no reservations). Server didn't write anything down and got a few of the desired side dishes mixed up. Very accommodating however in correcting the problem. Pleasant experience in spite of the fact that they were de-commissioning an exhibit !!"
