"It was me and my wife anniversary and the evening was very romantic. We didn’t enjoy the food. The food is way over priced. The chef is heavy handed with the salt. Our waiter knew we wasn’t to please with the food because the amount of food that was left on our plates."

"Boy, was this the splurge-tastic NY institution we expected. We randomly got the best table in the house, right next to the window to the garden. The ambience was pure old-school romance: white roses and single tapers on each table, a piano player in the bar, dark wood walls, plus the exquisite garden, framed by picture windows.
The food was phenomenal. My husband wanted me to try Beef Wellington for the 1st time (I'm a steak purist) & every review said this was THE place for it. I'll still prefer a naked steak to a pastry-wrapped one any day, but it was an absolutely delicious treat. The real surprise, though, was the razor clam & uni appetizer. Heaven in smoky mousse form. And save room for dessert--the pot au creme is exquisite!"

"in a lovely old carriage house on a quiet cobblestone street in the heart of the West Village, great for a special occasion. The prixe fix menu was expensive, but the food made it all worthwhile. Not too many places can serve perfect beef wellington and the chocolate dessert was out of this world. Great service - try to get a table that doesn't share the banquette for the full romantic experience, including a lovely shared garden and piano player."

"We were drenched by the time we arrived at the door, but the staff at OIBLTIBS was sympathetic and helpful in getting us dried out and warmed up sufficiently to settle into a great meal. Especially appreciated the happy anniversary wish with dessert--beautiful and subtle. The three course prix fixe menu offered great options, including specials. Everything was good, but dessert was definitely the highest point--the pistachio panna cotta and double pot de creme are genuinely outstanding offerings."

"I was looking for something to help celebrate my partners birthday and stumbled across this little gem! After booking I read the 'mixed' reviews (should have read before!) so was a little concerned as thought I made an error as so e are very negative!! I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and extremely pleased with the overall experience. We've eaten in some amazing restaurants and here I don't feel the negative comments are true. Food, service, ambiance and costs were all good. My partner also loved it!! Give it a try for yourself."

"Everyone knows that the food, service and ambiance are outstanding, but when my husband and I recently dined there, we were seated at the same table where he "popped the question" 6 years ago. When I expressed this to the hostess, she replied that they still had that notation on Open Table from 6 years ago, and when we again reserved through Open Table, she made sure that we were again seated at Table 62! It made my night!!!That is a perfect example of why they are consistently rated most romantic restaurant in Manhattan!!!"

"we booked for my girlfriends birthday dinner and it was nothing less than amazing. the restaurant is beautiful and the food is very different, in a positive way. the veal shank i would highly recommend. the wine list is very well laid out, not too complicated and not overly pretentious. the service is great, they really do pay a lot of attention to their customers, something a lot of nyc restaurants should work on. would definitely recommend and shall be back soon."

"After reading many reviews, I was expecting a real treat, but was disappointed. The wait staff seem pretentious, and didnt give me a warm and welcoming attitude. Service was decent or what was expected for such a place. The food was good, but seemed a little over priced. There was only set dinner available for $90 (there was no ala carte menu).
Although my experience was not horrible, it was not good either. Will not recommend this place."

"I had a great experience in a wonderful setting. I brought my wife there for her birthday and she was extremely pleased with the food and ambience. "Really very romantic. A good choice for couples, dates and special occasion when requires calm and intimate ambient, although seems be always with its tables occupied. It's not a luxury restaurant, its biggest qualities are the atmosphere,song and cosiness. It has a adequate wine card and a very polite waiter service. "The evergreen One if by Land, Two if by Sea with its chandeliers, omnipresent candles and wood-burning fireplaces is considered to be one of the most romantic places in New York City and an ideal place to fall to your knees, open a box, and pop the question. Wrong! Forget about that: married or not, it's just an excellent restaurant. Service is stellar, with waiters who will go out of their way to avoid any conflict and contribute to an unforgettable evening. But hey, it's about the food. Nice amuse bouche, delicately served foie gras (but a larger helping would do not harm), and my favorite, Beef Wellington cooked to perfection. Nice wine list with a wide price range. All in all, a great place, even if you already put a ring on it."

"This place has gone downhill and is reliant on the past. The wait staff was terrible, the busboy had bad body odor. The waitress was useless. The food was mediocre at best. "This is one of our favorite restaurants for special occasions. It is quite pricey; for us, it is not a restaurant we visit often. That being said, OIBLTIBS is a treat for any occasion! The service is incomperable and the food never fails to satisfy the pallet. The food presentation enhances the taste experience. Ambiance is pure romance! Noise level is kept to a minimum so couples can share private moments engaged in quiet conversation. "We chose the Tasting menu. As experienced diners having been to many international and renown restaurants this one falls way short of the mark. The food is just pretentious but lacks quality and balance. It falls down on flavour although the presentation is the only redeeming factor.
Very nice ambiance however the food runners dot always explain the course thus dampening the whole occasion.

"One if by Land is our favorite restaurant in Greenwich Village (we live nearby). While dinner is pricey, so we go no more than once a month, the Sunday brunch is quite reasonable--especially as you dine to soft jazz that does not intrude on conversation. When we were there on Memorial Day weekend, the music was provided by a piano and trumpet duo. Very enjoyable, and highly recommended."

"We celebrated an anniversary, and it could not have been better. Began with leisurely drink in the bar room next to fireplace and piano. Proceeded to beautiful table overlooking garden. Waitstaff very professional and helpful with selections. Food was fantastic. Ambiance perfect. Could not have asked for a better experience. A very special place that we will return to."

"When I booked the reservation through OpenTable, I added a comment that we'd be celebrating our Anniversary. As a result they seated us in a quieter, more romantic room and wished us a Happy Anniversary, multiple times. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. The staff was friendly, accommodating and very knowledgeable. It was an absolutely wonderful dining experience. We rarely go to restaurants of this caliber and price range, and would highly recommend it to others."

"The last time we ate here was over 20 years ago and I regret that it's taken us so long to come back! Fois gras was beautiful and delicious. Beef Wellington is the best (I had the butter poached lobster which was good, but I had "entree envy" for the Wellington). "I took my wife and another couple to this restaurant to celebrate my wife's birthday (and their anniversary). From the moment we walked in, we were made to feel welcome and the staff took special care to ensure that each occasion (birthday/anniversary) was noted.
My wife had the lobster and I enjoyed the beef wellington. The wine sommelier was knowledgeable and helpful in selecting a good pinot grigio. We each tried something different for dessert and each was delicious.
This is one great establishment tucked away in SoHo. I would STRONGLY encourage anyone with plans to head to NYC to make an effort to dine here."

"The place is gorgeous, the service is wonderful and we had amazing food. Since I am a long-time vegetarian, I don't expect a great reception at a restaurant that has a executive chef of the highest order. Surprise! There was a vegetarian tasting menu and every single course on it was superb. It was delicious to taste, smell and eat, beautifully presented and there was a lot of food....plenty. Yes, it was pricey for just vegetables, but coupled with the beauty of the place, and the atmosphere, it was worth every dime. I am grateful to know that such as place exists because most of the other older places have been closed."

"Loved it from the moment we stepped in. We sat at the copper-topped bar near the pianist and trumpeter before dinner. I had an amazing Sazerac, my girlfriend had the Coupe D'Amour (highly recommended). In the dining room we sat by the tall windows facing a very nice garden and what looked like a very unassuming, ivy-laden entrance to the apartment building above the restaurant. Appetizers (the scallops and spring pea risotto) were amazing, perfectly cooked. The main, a perfectly prepared beef wellington for her, and a succulent osso bucco for me. And finally the passion fruit flan and the chocolate & caramel pot de creme to finish off one of the best meals we've had in NY. Will definitely make an excuse to come back here again."
