On the water's edge on Kaanapali Beach, Hula Grill offers a stunning view of the Pacific and of the islands of Lanai and Molokai that has to be seen to be believed. From this distinctly Hawaiian vantage point, you are invited to join us as we celebrate the hospitality, culture and cuisine of the islands. Dinner is served in our open-air dining room where you can relax in the ambiance of a plantation era beach house while enjoying renown chef Peter Merriman's Hawaii regional seafood that isn't only a favorite of vacationers, but locals, too. Hawaiian fresh fish and locally grown produce are combined to create amazing menu offerings that are as colorful as they are flavorful. Fiery sunsets are served up daily along with live Hawaiian entertainment.
Our Barefoot Bar offers a more casual menu serving both lunch and dinner under authentic thatch roof umbrellas and a sand floor where you can sink your toes in. The Barefoot Bar is seated on a walk-in basis only.

"Life doesn't get much better than when one is enjoying lunch, dinner, and/or a cocktail at Hula Grill. The ocean and island views as well as the energy of Whaler's Village make this one of the hot spots for locals and tourists. The food is very good although the menu is a bit limited. The staff is exceptionally friendly and one can count on tasty food at a reasonable price and an enjoyable time. I highly recommend this restaurant."

"One complaint...we made our reservation 5 days in advance, it was our tenth anniversary and we were originally seated at the back of the restaurant, between a table of eight and a table of twelve, as you can imagine it was very noisy and not very romantic. I approached the hostess and she was not willing to change our table. My husband who is more assertive, asked to speak to a manager, with a wait of seven minutes we were seated at a lovely ocean front table. We would have gone elsewhere had the manager not made the change. Food and service was very good, no complaints there."

"8:30 pm reservation. Parking easy, aesthetics nice, on the beach, rich lacquered wooden tables, chairs, tommy bahamas feel outdoors, knowledgeable waiter (Will) who should be doing more. Wanted quiet evening of good food/private conversation, got more conversation than hoped but intentions good. Up sold on wine selection but no biggie. Issue with service & the later rez...staff moved with the efficiency of a buffalo migration across alligator river. Wanted quiet evening, but constantly bothered by tables being cleared of settings & food on top of us to point I asked them to slow down to enjoy the bottle of wine w/ food. I apologized for request but suffered as it took 3 requests to get bill & wife had to go to kitchen to find waiter."

"Brenda waited on us and she could not have been nicer.
Warm focaccia bread is served in an old metal lunch box with olive oil and a spicy sweet sour sauce. OMG! We brought home two bottles of the sauce, it was that good.
My husband had delicious fish tacos; I had a burger that was ok, but certainly not worthy of the "Best on Maui" designation. It was flavorful, though overcooked; the bun was really good.
We didn't partake in the ice cream sandwich, but it looked wonderful."

"Ambiience on Kaanapali Beach was, as usual, hard to beat. Food was only so-so, as most of our fish dishes were either overcooked or just didn't taste fresh. Not up to their usual standards, based on past visits. Service was uneven and a bit slow, although our waiter was trying. Friday night, so probably understandable."

"In their main dining room I had then Poke Tacos appetizer, then seared Ahi for dinner. Big portion, fresh, and tasted great. My wife had a Local fish catch-ot-the-day she enjoyed. Be sure to ask for server Jennifer -- she's been there eight years and was very friendly and attentive. Hard to find a good restaurant here in Maui that is not an overpriced "tourist trap", so Hula Grill is the exception as we go to Maui for two weeks every years, we do know where to go and where not to go. This place also has a patio and bar area good for burgers and sandwiches."

"Hula Grill was awesome! The drinks were great, the poisson cru was spot on, the coconut milk seafood dish was wonderful, and the fresh fish special (walu and opa!) was excellent. Service was great, and the view of Ka'anapali beach was the best part of all. I wish we had dined during the sunset. Nothing beats dining outside on a warm night in Hawaii. We'll definitely return here when we come back!"

"Fine food with a fast food approach. I realize that the place is popular but , when you barely finish your salad and they bring out the entree it ruins the experience. The couple next to us were still eating their salad when their entree arrived. If you want a quick meal eat here.
After being seated for less than 5 minutes we were asked if we were ready to order 4 times. Our server became annoying. Food would have been outstanding if our dinner had not been rushed."

"We enjoyed eating at the Hula Grill, Kaanapali. We saw the Chef's Sampler menu on the Hula Grill website so decided it was an economical dining choice, $25.95/person, with ocean front dining in Lahaina (http://www.hulagrillkaanapali.com/menus/dining-room). Before we ordered our waiter said the items on the Chef's Sampler Menu were half portions sizes. We felt like it was one of those bait and switch deals because the website said nothing about half portions. We decided to try it anyway since we did have a nice lunch at our condo earlier. We were glad we ordered from the Chef's Sampler menu because the food was delicious. The portions were pretty large so we weren't as disappointed and we did get very full. The view and ambiance were great!"

Have been frequenting The HULA GRILL every trip to Maui. It's beachfront location is prime.Just what you want in Hawaii. Dining always great and service attentive. Good menu selection and good portion sizes. We dined a little earlier in order to enjoy the sunset.Check local dates for time of sunset! Come 5-6 pm to take advantage of the Chef's 3 course menu. Our party of 4 also ate in the afternoon in the casual BAREFOOT Bar with it's sand beach floor. Nice musical addition enhanced our meal. Fresh fish, well prepared is a sure thing! Located ocean front by The Whaler's Shopping complex. Easy walk on the board walk to most Ka'anapali Hotels/condos."

"This was a return visit. Last time here was a couple of years ago. Food is still very good. However, service continues to be spotty.
We had reservations. The hostess stand was very efficient. However, after we were seated, it was five minutes before our server greeted us. It also took some time for us to get our check after we dined.
Our appetizers were a spinach salad and tomato & goat cheese. Both were very good. My first entree choice, ahi, was not available. This is fresh fish so sometimes they will run out. Both of us settled on the sauteed ono which was excellent. The fire-grilled asparagus was also very good.
Even though the service is somewhat inconsistent, we will be back. Of course, this restaurant has a great view. It is"

"Walked in, was seated quickly in the plantation lanai, which we were initially bummed about. But turned out to be a nice quiet and cool table. The service was impeccable. Christina was our server, and she was extremely attentive. She made my girlfriend feel like royalty. The manager even came over and introduced herself. "Hula Grill is one of our favorites. Our reservation was for 6, but we stopped by earlier in the day and they were able to move it to 7:15. When we showed, up they instantly seated us in a room to ourselves that was great for our group of 8. We forgot our coupon for free desserts, but we were very full after eating a wonderful dinner."

Orderd appetizers" dumpling" tasty but 3 only -- whats the point -- so everyone on table had 1 dumpling-- bizarre --
Mains were bland -- everyone had fish and they threw some white/ brown rice with it -- food was luke warm
Had a bad table even though reserved 4 months in advance -- was told by reception " they dont read the comments" when reserving tables ---"

"Very popular (therefore crowded) restaurant right on Kaanapali Beachwalk; relatively noisy, even on the edge of the crowd. Service was quite attentive, and waiter very knowledgeable. Food was decent, but nothing to brag about. Hard to beat the view,although at night the ocean isn't visible."

"Food was not great. I had a special that contained two different types of fish and it was very blah. Wife thought it was awful. Skip the dinning room here. There's nothing special about it. I still recommend enjoying the barefoot bar area for afternoon drinks and watching the sunset."
