"Nice experience, we ate on the front patio - little noisy (because it's a high traffic street), would like to try the side patio next time. Very attentive staff and service but not annoying. Interesting (but somewhat limited) menu, eclectic California cuisine. Everyone in our party seemed pleased with their food and drink which included: Short Ribs (very lean and tender), Cuban Chicken Breast (a bit bland) and Short Rib Tacos (excellent). We are looking forward to a return visit. The owners have several restaurants in the Pasadena area and they all are very satisfying, this is the least expensive one we've been to."

"Tried it for the first time on a whim and the reputation of the Smith Restaurants. Not bad, as in pretty good. A pleasant and efficient wait staff, reasonable prices and a menu with potential. In fairness, we didn't test their game much--a pizza and a salad with wine, but the grilled artichoke appetizer showed promise of other more challenging offerings on the menu. Perhaps not a destination or special occasion place, but worth repeat visits."

"We really enjoyed the outdoor patio and of course the first rate food. I liked trying the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce restaurant week menu you provided for $15 so I could sample a couple of your lunch offerings. Thank you very much."

"The dinner’s presentation was very nice and everything tasted wonderful. This is a place that I will return to on a summer evening to truly enjoy it when they can open all the doors."

"We have loved all of the Smith Bros restaurants that we have tried in the past, but Cafe 140 was a bit of a disappointment to us. The food was good, but nothing really special. The major complaint was the high level of noise. We were in a side dining room that was small and too full of large tables. The people in our party could not hear each other very well and we had traveled from two places to meet in Pasadena in the middle in order to catch-up and have a pleasant dinner. We had tried to go to Smitty's Grill up the street, but there were no open reservations when we wanted one."

"Went for what we were told would be Easter brunch. However, we were supplied with only a lunch menu, even though others were ordering from a brunch menu. Menu was very limited with not much variety. Waiter was not very attentive. Waited 20 minutes for refill on coke, and request for dessert. Manager checked with us, but this was right after we reveived our food, and hadn't had a chance to even take a bite. Food was bland. We had been here before both when it was called Crocidile Cafe, as well as when it changed names and ownership as Cafe 140 South, and had been previously very pleased with the food and the service."

"Brunch was delicious ( 3 orders of eggs benedict and i breakfast pizza) and service was good considering they were packed for Easter. We were seated promptly and our server was right there with drink orders and bread. Bread is absolutely delicious, but they could have been a little more generous with it.. A very small loaf for 4 adults and no "would you like more bread?" But overall great time!"

"In our party of 8, everyone but one person enjoyed your fare. He ordered the burger and said it said it fell apart and lacked taste. The only other person who ordered a burger was pleased with it.
We will be back as our short ribs were delightful!"

"I was a bit curious how the restaurant had changed since it was Crocodile Cafe. Actually but for the name change it is quite similar with most of the same menu items.
As all have said the complimentary bread is amazing. Everyone should try a slice.
We were there for a light lunch I had the tuna salad sandwich and it was quite tasty. My dining partner enjoy the minestrone vegetable soup and said it was great.
For those who live in the area and have not been back since the restaurant changed names it is worth a visit back.
Enjoy!"

"Wanted the typical Corned Beef & Cabbage experience close to home in Pasadena and Cafe 140 did not disappoint. Indeed, their St. Patty's Day special of Guinness Shortribs was simply fabulous."

"My friend who was visiting from Portland, Oregon and I had the Thai salad and the chicken taquitos. Both were delicious and served quickly by a very professional waiter. The waiter checked back with us at least three times. We sat on the patio on a week day and the atmosphere was very nice. My friend was very complimentary about the food and it was a sunny and warm afternoon which added to her pleasure."

"Food was good, try the braised short rib very yummy. My wife had the sea bass it was average. If you like calamari I recommend it. Big chunks fried in a nice batter very tender. Dining tables are small and was pretty loud because the place was packed. We will be back."

"This was our first time at Cafe 140 although I must admit we are fans of most of the Smith brothers restaurants. We happened to be short on time because we had tickets for the theater and hadn't planned until the last minute to dine out. We were really impressed that after making a 6:45 reservation and calling ahead to make sure we could get in an out in an hour, they were so accommodating. They seated us right away (our table was waiting - unlike many places where you make a reservation and still end up waiting to be seated)and the service and food couldn't have been better. They even comped us a grilled half artichoke because we were newbies. I was also impressed that they were serving a special Cabernet to benefit a charity. Win/Win!"

"As a longtime fan of all things Smith Brothers in Pasadena, I was disappointed I was unable to get a reservation for Valentine's Day at the Parkway Grill, Cheval Blanc or Smitty's. Cafe 140 was the backup and it was great. The scallops entre was wonderful and the wait staff was able to suggest a fabulous wine pairing. My bride and I had a good time."

"Girls night out, met with friends for dinner had a wonderful time, the food was great, wine execellent and our waiter was so attentive to our needs that we didn't feel rushed to leave. I will certainly tell my co-workers of this wonderful fine restaurant and will also bring my family to enjoy a night out."

"We went to Pasadena to catch a screening of Sound City at the Laemmle Theater & wanted to take advantage of the last day of this round of Restaurant Week. The menu at Cafe 140 sounded great & we were not disappointed. We will definitely go back when we are in the area. The movie rocked too!"

"pleasant surprise, went by default for dinela week as 5 other neighboring smith brothers restaurants were full for our timeframe. special burger with in-house ground prime+short rib and blue cheese spread was tasty and juicy, garlic mashed were the real thing, delicious house made brandy sangria with loads of diced apples and orange slices was quite refreshing, house-squeezed lemonade was a bit bland but at least was the real thing, chicken ravioli had an exceptionally tasty filling - will go again for lunch or a very casual dinner."

"Food was not bad but service was horrible. I would not blame the server because the manager had her covering the bar and the entire room by herself (9 tables + bar). The result is waitress check on your needs twice the entire meal, drinks takes forever to get refilled after request, check take forever to show up on the table, and box for to go takes forever to arrived. It is not her fault but nonetheless the experience is ... And this is during DineLA week where the restaurant suppose to showcase why I should be a regular there."

"We went because we thought we might take advantage of the DineLA menu. In the end, neither my roommate no I did that. My choice (dictated somewhat by diet restrictions) was a basic green salad topped with grilled salmon (not on the menu as such, but suggested by our server). Roommate ordered onion rings (I had two; they were delicious!), then "Two Street Tacos." We both enjoyed our meal very much, and our server was just delightful!!! This is my second trip to Cafe 140 South, and when I am not so limited in my meal choices, I definitely will return."
