The Mill on the River
Located just minutes from Hartford and Springfield, The Mill on the River has been a premier dining location for over 25 years. Located on the shores of the Podunk River, the restaurant is housed in a remodeled grist mill. The classic New England ambiance is the perfect compliment to the modern American menu. The extensive menu features classic Continental cuisine with inventive International influences as well as fresh seafood and quintessential chop house offerings. Located in an ideal rural setting, local produce and regional specialty items are predominately featured. With a Wine Spectator Award winning wine list, The Mill on the River offers over 400 wine bottles and over 50 wines by the glass. In addition to the refined dining room, waterfront patio dining is also requested often. The restaurant is open seven days a week for lunch, dinner, and the popular Sunday Brunch. The new bar area is also open all day for a lighter fare menu, casual abiance, and creative cocktails.

We were seated at far end of a banc seating; they kept from sitting anyone at the near tables on the banc, but on other side was a boisterous group of four
right behind us were kitchen door and prep alcove which meant annoyance from huge volume (numbers/noise) of wait traffic. If you go refuse sitting near the kitchen unless no other choice.
We would have refused, had we thought just how active/noisy an area it was.
Wine list was misleading: prices did not line up with the bill; after we ordered a bottle, waitress asked if we wanted to see the second winelist. Huh?
Food was well prepared and very very tasty, but far overpriced for the quality/imagination involved."

"With all of the new restaurants which have come on the scene and that we have tried, it was very nice to return to Mill on the River and find that it is better than ever. The service is outstanding - it's a team effort and when our server became involved with a large party group, others (even the hostesses) stepped in and made certain we had everything we needed. Our meals were delicious and the desserts were outrageously good. We will not wait so long this time before we return to this old reliable "friend"."

"The menu has been changed and some of our historical favorites were removed. The waiter was not into it, the food came fast right after salad was finished (within 10 seconds). I had requested that we split a salad but the waiter did not split it or give us a salad plate. He just seemed not interested. We had a noisy table of 4 next to us who were arguing, so overall it was not a pleasant experience."

"I took my wife to the Mill for her birthday dinner. I used Open Table to make the reservation and requested a table by the window. We arrived about 20 minutes early and we were seated at a window table, which my wife loved. The food was excellent. We had the oysters and shrimp for an appetizer and the petit filet and lobster pasta for dinner which were both very good. The Mill is a wonderful place for dinner."

"This restaurant is very romantic good place for special night out with a loved one. The scenery was calm and relaxing, service was almost excellent . "The 4 people in our party enjoyed the Easter lunch occasion. We arrived a little early for our reservations and were seated promptly. The luncheon menu included soup or salad, entree and a dessert. Our party had 3 different salads and a shrimp bisque. All of us loved the 1st course. The selection of entree's was large. Lamb, Prime Rib, Country ham, several fish dinners and pork plates. We had 4 different dinners and we all loved them. The Prime Rib was cooked to perfection and actually tasted great along with being fork tender. The pork, steak and lamb dishes also looked great and they said was cooked perfectly. The dessert menu had 6-8 items on it but most of choose the "Apfel Strudle" which was tasty and decadent. Overall,a great choice!"

"We have been to Mill on the River many times and enjoy it very much. We go on certain special occasions(Easter, anniversary)It is very cozy, and food and service is good.Food portions are very small. We were not happy with being hit this time with a mandatory 18% gratuity, however, which we knew nothing about until the meal was over and we received our check. There were only 3 of us in our party. They NEVER did this before and we have gone there for 5 years now. We probably won't be going much anymore due to this. We are financially struggling right now and planned out our budget for this dinner in advance and this pushed us over a good $20. We wrote and complained to the restaurant but haven't heard back.To me,a tip is EARNED,not demanded!"

"My wife and I took my mom to Mill on the River for Easter Dinner after a not so pleasant experience @ Carmen Anthony the year before. We arrived a few minutes early and table was ready. Right next to the window so my mom could gaze at the water. This was our 1st holiday out after the sudden death of my father in January. Food was fabulous. Arlo, our waiter, made it a very enjoyable meal and was so kind to my mom. Can't wait to go back!"

"I have been to the Mill on the River a number of times for brunch and my sister was married there. I have always had a great experience and found the food to be very good. For the Easter Dinner however I was pretty disappointed in the food. The calamari was overbreaded and I wouldn't be surprised if it came out of a bag, the shrimp bisque was lukewarm and the shrimp were not cooked. I had the rigatoni ala vodka and it was very good - what saved the meal was the apple streudel - delicious! Overall for the amount charged I was disappointed in the quality of the food."

"It was a double celebration--Mother's 90th and Easter. Mother loves this restaurant, so we made reservations here. We had expected crowds and tight seating and waiting and none of that happened. We were seated almost immediately on arrival. The reservation system moved people through their dinners without rushing or crowding. "It has been a while since we ate here and at the time we were not overly impressed. This time, however, we were quite happy with our meals. Portions were just right...not large, but very filling. The menu selection was varied and plenty to come back and try again or for the first time. Service was attentive and friendly."

"We received a pleasant surprise on last visit to The Mill when the special menu was a patron appreciation special. Three course meal for $25 per plate. The Mill's great food for $25 what a nice way for the ownership and management to say thank you.
And to beat the special menu, the food was some of the best we've ever experienced at The Mill."

"We love the Mill on the River for Sunday brunch. The breakfast meal selections offer a wide variety of choices and the table spread of juices, fruits, cheeses and desserts was delicious. The ambiance of the old mill on the river and comfortable round booth for 6 people made this a memorable dining experience. We will be back for future celebrations!"

"7:00 PM reservation was not filled until 7:30. Waiting area was crowded and uncomfortable. Service and food was very good, once seated. Didn't appreciate the bench side of the table, as I had requested a full table to accommodate my brother, although scenic.
