"I had lunch with a friend at the Menlo Grill yesterday. It is a warm environment conducive to our long catch-up chat. She had the Salad Nicoise and I had the Kale Salad. Both were superb."

"This establishment will eventually become a hot spot. The chef knows what he/she is doing. I had the Southern Fried Cornish Game Hen with hush puppies and creamed greens. Outstanding. Others had the gnocchi, grilled white fish and niscoise salad with scallops instead of tuna. Fantastic. Service great. Atmosphere quite enough you can actually relax."

"I enjoyed every moment of my stay at the Menlo Grill. Upon arrival, I was seated outside in the courtyard as was my preference. I had an amazing dish, the lamb two ways, which has a fritter lamb portion and a nother portion of lamb cooked to order, which I ordered rare. Both melted in my mouth. The dish also came with a small serving of ratatouille, which was both delicious and recalled memories of a dish my grandmother used to prepare. The service was friendly, polite and prompt."

"We came for a Mother's Day brunch and were extremely disappointed by the abysmal service - unfriendly, unhelpful and rude.
There was a special brunch menu for Mother's Day and included in the price was sparkling wine, fresh bakery goods and coffee. However we had to ask for each of those extras as the waiter didn't offer them, and in fact looked surprised and fed up when we did ask. We didn't ask for the fresh baked goods and therefore never received them.
When my 5 year-old spilled her juice (it was in a large glass unsuitable for children) she was upset to have done it, and the waiter silently cleaned up, not offering a cloth for her dress and didn't replace the wet napkins or coloring sheet.
We will not be returning."

"Only a few people but super loud. Service was super slow...only 3 tables! Food was hit or miss. Crudo very good ( bit expensive!), lamb very good, 63 degree egg was cold, tuna on nicoise would have been much better warm and dressing was bland. Scallops were well presented, as with much of food, but not a great taste. Quantities very perfect. Not skimpy ( except crudo) but not too much."

"Service was particularly good on our recent visit. From the friendly welcome to the last of our excellent meal, we felt well taken care of. Food was spot on - that bistro burger and the new fries are about the best in town.
Keep up the great work Menlo Grill team, we appreciate it!"

"Food not adventuresome but well done and nicely presented. Oyster on the half shell appetizer was well beyond its prime and should not have been served. Service was the worst we have had in years if not ever. BUT again, the food is simple and very much above average. Recommendation: Take your own wine and enjoy the food knowing that the service is poor."

"The updated Menlo Grill is wonderful. New chef Erik Romme came from Madera and brought with him a terrific menu upgrade. We started with the Lemonfish Crudo which was amazing. Most of our table had Asparagus Salad with crispy prosciutto and the perfect egg which they loved. For dinner I had the Black Cod with some of the best lima beans I've ever had. I'm not a big fan of the foam fad but for some reason it just worked with the cod bringing in a nice little hint of saffron. Others at our table had the Lamb Shank, Cornish Hen and New York Steak all of which could easily been prepared at an upscale SF restaurant. Beignets for dessert..YUM! Service was terrific and no corkage fee if you bring wine. An overall great experience."

"We went for lunch, and we both enjoyed our meal, I had the carrot ginger soup, and I often order carrot soup, but I must say this was one of the best I have had. Our desert was excellent also, a rhubarb strawberry crisp. I will definitely go back. The parking is great, and the ambiance of the place is very nice"

"Perhaps it was an "off day", but after waiting 10 minutes to be seated (while there were only 2 other parties in the restaurant), 10 for our drink order to be taken, another 10 for our food order, and another 25 minutes for food service where the food arrived lukewarm, our party of 4 was very frustrated. Couple this with the fact that at 11:45 we were told we couldn't order lunch until noon, yet a table of 2 who were seated next to us ordered lunch at the same time we were told we could not - "because they been patrons since 2008" according to management- made the whole experience off-putting. With that said, we did appreciate that our server was very nice and the manager responsive."

"We consider the Menlo Grill a neighborhood gem. The menu offered a variety which was pleasing to our group of 6. The carrot soup was divine; caesar salad was fresh and flavorful. Our group ordered the filet of sole special, nicoise, filet mignon, and the pork chop. Everyone was satisfied with flavor and portions of their meal. There is no corkage fee so we brought champagne and red wine to enjoy. We will return to the Grill, but hope that the wait staff becomes a little more seasoned first. Our waiter was courteous but seemed to lack some basics. The champagne was opened but no ice bucket given, we had to refill our own glasses. I had to ask for wine glasses when he was ready to pour the wine, coffee arrived very late."

"We enjoyed taking our Stanford freshman to dinner at Menlo Grill in mid-February and before that in September. The food is good, the ambiance is great, the tables and chairs are comfortable, and, most important, it is not too noisy so a dinner conversation can be held. That it's attached to a hotel is a benefit--we appreciated that parking was easy in the lot. Recommended."

"After a marked improvement in food and service, the restaurant has slipped a little back toward more amateurish presentation. Oysters were served with no forks. Shared dishes were left on the table with no extra plates, and the portion size has decreased far too much. I had the Ono which came with a sweet potato puree of less than a half-teaspoon. The food, however, was well-prepared.Servers are very friendly just under-trained."

"Horrible service. Really poor attention to the table. Timing was bad - appetizers took 20 minutes to come out then arrived with entree. Waiter seemed unsure of himself - maybe a trainee? Mgmt appeared absent.
Would not return for a Business Lunch Meeting."

"We had a great dinner here. Have been several times before, but this was the first time back since their new chef, and his dishes were fantastic. Ciopino, Cornish game hen and the the vegetarian dish (forget what it was called) were all excellent. Great neighborhood restaurant....we sat by the fire in the bar area and it was really cozy on a winter night."

"I appreciated the fact that we were seated right away and the service was impeccable. I got a box for the remainder of my meal and was impressed that it came in a secure box inside a bag. Also, the coffee was excellent.
The restaurant was very loud with waitstaff cleaning and setting tables, that is my only criticism. Otherwise, a great dining experience for breakfast."

"Went in with a colleague for lunch, what a nice find. Shared guacamole for an appetizer, had a great roast beef sandwich! Now, I like them anyway, but this one was so tender and juicy, I wish I could have that every day, yum! Colleague had the steak salad, nicely presented and well seasoned, cooked a perfect medium rare. Service from Noe was crisp, attentive and we always had whatever we needed.I've heard that the new chef is there, and I can tell things will only get better. Have heard that dinner is amazing, can't wait to come back and try it."

"Delicious selection of food for appetizers and main course. I had the "daily" special (rubbed pork ribs, cold slaw and french fries), which was incredible. Disappointed with the lemon tart for dessert :( - but, this isn't my first visit and I keep coming back because of the wonderful selection of food that combines amazing textures and flavors, plus the bar / cocktails are very good!"
