"I am a Cal's Wood Fire Grill egular.
I eat there every business trip, which amounts to 3 times a month.
I think its the best spot in the neighborhood. Some nights I'll even drive from Springfield, MA to settle into one of the cozy booths in the main room. This visit was much the same as previous ones: easy reservation on opentable; nice pre-dinner drink at the bar; warm greeting by the hosts; my hazelnut crusted salmon prepared perfectly with a toasted exterior and soft tasty interior.

Only one thing was off: the service. When we had a few inquiries about the wine, or asked for rolls and oil, etc we received curt frowns, abrupt motion, disengaged an detached (not available) service during the meal, low product knowledge. Unfortunate."

"I have been to Cals many times before so knew what to expect. All four of us enjoyed our meals They were very busy yet our waitress was friendly and the food, apps, etc. were served in a timely fashion. One small negative was that even though out reservation was for 7:00, we were not seated until 7:40 or so. We were able to get a small table in the bar area and enjoy a glass of wine so it worked out fine. Considering it was the night before Mother's Day, it was handled very well. We'll go back for sure,"

"I have driven by Cal's many times and never stopped to check it out. I decided to use OpenTable one busy Friday night (60 to 70 min wait at local chain restaurant). 15 minutes later, we were seated and ordering drinks (decent wine list). The service was friendly and accurate. The food was very good. My steak was actually rare (bloody) for a change. I will definitely be dining at this restaurant again!
The only con was parking. The lot is a little small when they are busy. I was lucky to follow some people leaving and took their spot. There is another lot across the street to park in."

"The food was amazing, as always. This time we went on a Monday to try the Prix Fixe dinner menu. ($20.95 for four courses.) Way too much food - we were all stuffed! Normally the waitresses are very good, but this time we had to wait a very long time to have things brought to the table (drinks, rolls, dessert). Not sure if they were short staffed this particular evening, or if this is the norm during the times the Prix Fixe menu is offered. There were 7 of us and we sat at a round table that seats 8 in a private section off to the side. The restaurant was very, very loud, even from our secluded spot. Great spot for groups, though. There is always something for everyone on the menu, even with the special menu offered."

"The food is never a disappoint at Cal's--it's always delicious! This visit I felt like a lighter meal, so I ordered their chop salad and added pan-seared scallops on top. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the salad was crisp and tasty with just the right proportion of ingredients. My husband had the bacon-wrapped pork loin served on mushroom and pea risotto, which I've ordered before. The pork was so moist and flavorful and the risotta was creamy without being heavy. The service is always great--you can take your time and have a relaxing dinner or be in and out quickly if you have some place to go. Just let your server know and you'll be all set!"

"The food was good but the portions were very small. I ordered a salmon special that was described as being served with a stir-fry. I love vegetables so I asked the server if the stir-fry was loaded with vegetables and she said "yes". So I was expecting a very colorful dish, but the salmon came basically on a bed of fried rice. The salmon was fresh and delicious, but a very small portion. My dinner companion's meal was also somewhat small as far as portion size goes. Overall, the meal was fair. Not enough vegetables for our taste, but we may try them again."

"The drinks were good, salad was good, and that's about it. My husband's salmon arrived tepid, not even warm. For $22, one would expect a decent size portion of fish - and that it would be hot; the vegetables looked like a frozen medley you'd get at Costco. The mashed potatoes were served cafeteria-style, from an ice cream scoop. The salmon was taken away to the kitchen to reheat; after it was returned, the portion was smaller.
I had the fish and chips, which was passable. The service was below average, perhaps because we were seated in the hinterlands of the restaurant. We were frustrated that we had to ask for water, and then the waitress never came back to refill our glasses. We will not be back."

"This place is a real gem among the chain restaurants of Riverdale Road. Whenever I'm in the area to visit my grandmother, I always take her here. They've got a great wine list, trendy atmosphere, and I've never been disappointed with the food. It's such a relief to have a place like this in that area!"

"We have been fans of the Mill-on-the-River groups other restaurants in CT. This one was a new addition to favorites. It was busy on a Sat night, but we had made reservations. Our waitress (Dawn) was excellent, and the food was as well. Hot rolls served with spicy olive oil was good along with the Fried Mozzarella and great Fried Clams appetizer. Clams lightly breaded and not greasy.We had the Seafood Pasta (house specialty) which was excellent. The Seared Scallops were large but a little underdone.
The menu overall, was very good with choices for all types of palates. Highly recommended will definitely come again. Parking was a slight issue (we parked across the street at the Golf and Tennis store) as it was very popular spot!"

"I had a grate experience! I recommend anyone to do reservation before getting there, you won't wait to long. From the moment you get there to the monent you leave you get the best service, food and environment.Its a great place to have a romantic dinner. In a reasonable price. On Sunday and Monday is the best deal with the prefix menu only for $20.95....can ask for more! Go online and do your reservation and check out the menu!"
