"Upon arrival for my 830 reservation, we were seated in a matter of seconds. I came with a party of 4 and the other couple was from Boston. I was looking for a special evening that they would never forget. Boy did I get it right by bring them to this restaurant! Our waiter Orlando was amazing and attended to our requests so well it felt like we'd rented the place for the night. The jumbo shrimp, crab cake, and seared scallops appetizers were all to die for. Between us we had the shrimp scampi, seafood risotto, sea bass, and lobster. The only thing that can be said is were still talking about that food, constantly. To make it even sweeter we were surprised with a creme brulee and thru version of cheesecake. I died again :-) Money well spent."

"We picked 'A fish...' based on guidebook recommendations and we were not disappointed. The service was attentive but casual and the food first class. We sat on the balcony (inside/outside) which gave us a good view of the passing revellers without disturbing our meal. We enjoyed the evening - give it a try!"

"This is just another restaurant by the beach. outdoor seating is on the side walk so great for people watching. there is no need for reservations. this could be a fun place to eat for tourists but as a Floridian I believe there are much better options for special occasions or even for eating after spending the day at the beach. I had the orzo paella which was good but some of my friends did not like their meals at all. so we thought it was over priced not so great tasting food. service is not bad."

"I'm not sure I have ever given an overall outstanding but dinner was really terrific. I have eaten at the restaurant before each time it has been really good. The food is excellent and the service is simply outstanding. Our server was Orlando and he made some excellent suggestion. The grill octopus was excellent and the bass was outstanding. Orlando was clearly knowledgeable about the food and even how it was cooked and was just a fun guy. This was a belated birthday celebration for me and hopefully I will celebrate next year in South Beach at your restaurant."

"The food here is exceptional; I had the twin lobsters; they were cooked to perfection. My wife had the snapper, at the server's recommendation. Hers was not well done as she asked for, and they seemed unable to correct it on the second try, but she was okay with it. Great ambiance on Ocean Drive"

"This was a fantastic location on Ocean Drive. The wait staff is fantastic; attentive, quick and so polite. W The concierge at the Hilton suggested this restaurant and we were NOT disappointed. The food was great. I ordered the macadamia crusted snapper and spiinach risotto and would order it again! My husband had the crab crusted grouper with roasted tomatoes, large white beans and spinach and he loved it. They make the best mojitos and the music was a very soft relaxing guitar that set the tone for a very enjoyable evening. If you are looking for a place that allows you to take in the sights and relax and be pampered, this is it!! It has s sophisticated atmosphere that leaves you wanting to come back! Great food, Great service ....Perfect!"

"Grouper is one of my favorites and enjoyed the crab crusted grouper here. My wife and another lady we were with ordered the Mahi Mahi special, and the verdict was very average, not worth the price. We like Mahi Mahi with a more classic prep, but the fish was cooked well but lacked any seaonsing at all The saffron mashed potatoes sounded good, but were bland as well.
The server was nice and made good recommendations.
My biggest compliant was the darkness. We were with a large group and had to dine inside. It was so dark that you couldn't see your food. Obiviously they are not proud of their food presentation. It was soo bad we all had to break out our phone flashlight apps to read the dessert menu (don't bother)."

"Was here from reviews and rating from Trip Advisor. Scenic, South Beach view. Service good. Wife's appetizer wa escagot and not cooked with cold escargot. "Had a lovely experience at Avalon. We arrived a little early for our reservation so we sat in the bar and had a great cocktail! The bartender was very friendly and accomodating. We then were seated at our table outside on the patio, such a great tempature outside and lovely view of the street and beach beyond. It was fun to enjoy the people watching while we ate dinner. Our server was extremely professional and kind and made wonderful recommondations for dinner. We had the Paella and Halibut special. Both were excellent!"

"Amazing. Everything we ordered was incredible. It's so rare to have such an incredible experience. The food was perfectly prepared and the sauces were so on point I have no idea how anyone can prepare such perfection. While the bang bang shrimp lived up to it's reputation, personally I enjoyed the crab cake even more. The sea bass was melt in your mouth. We will always make a point to visit this restaurant each time we are in Miami."

"A Fish called Avalon was certainly different from the other restaurants on Ocean Drive in that no one had to stand out in front to corral people in or "sell" the menu. The seafood was outstanding, well-seasoned and perfectly cooked. The Bang-Bang Shrimp was a tasty appetizer. The grouper and the snapper were exceptional. Though the food was great, the service left much to be desired. Our waiter was not very attentive and the food was slow to arrive. Glasses were not refilled unless we asked. The ambiance and live music was one redeeming quality. We will definitely be back for the food, but hope the service improves. I've noticed a pattern with other reviews as well."

"I was looking for a good place to go eat with my girlfriend and group of friends. This place was very energetic, clean, and welcoming. However, the food was bland, served in room temperature, and waiter maybe came to our table 4 times while we were there. I am not sure if we went at a bad time, but if I am spending $120 for two, I better expect great food, and great service. My advice, go check out Bazzar at the SLS hotel at 17th and Collins. Now that place was AMAZING.... Don't go here.."

"The food was good, the people watching was great but the service unremarkable. From removing a single wine glass from the small cluttered table when told that no more wine was required, to the casual dropping off of the check when passing by the table, eventhough the total contained an 18% gratuity. To include a 17% to 20% gratuity in the tab is not a rare occurence in South Beach, most restaurants at least warn you that it is included while offering an explanation that it's for our convenience (!). Not bad service, just unremarkable, for a restaurant meal that averages $100.00 per person. Again, not a rare occurence in South Beach, but..."

"Went when we were on vacation in South Beach. It was on the main drag with plenty of outdoor dining. We sat outside and watched the people walk by. "Avalon served us the greatest meal we had during our visit to south Beach. The food was incredible, the service superb, and eating outside on the streets of SOBE just added to all the fun. The portions are very large (when you think of higher end food choices the portions are usually small but not here), expertly cooked and served Hot. The Orzo Paella was incredible, and the Salmon was perfectly cooked, and beautifully served. This will be worth a return trip."

"As we walked toward the restaurant, we were hawked my the many Ocean Drive restaurants to have dinner? There was no such activity at our restaurant. Ida's a bit worried that when I did not see any outside diners that maybe I had made a wrong choice. But I was completely wrong. The restaurant food and service was outstanding. And the restaurant quickly filled up.with the later arriving dinner crowd. Visitors to this restaurant will not be disappointed!"

"We had a wonderful dinner at A Fish called Avalon! The outside dining is perfect for people watching but not so noisy that you can not hear table conversation. If you want to taste something wonderful, order the grilled octopus appetizer! It's indescribly delicious! The only downside to this restaurant is getting there. South Beach is one big traffic jam so allow yourself plenty of time to make your reservation. ( Also,parking is expensive.) We would definitely reurn."

"Not very impressive, we had the oysters which were loaded with yellow and red peppers, the seafood sauce was the standard you can pour out of a jar and the miso was standard. The fresh local grouper was overlooked but passable. I was expecting more flavours and freshness given the reviews I read."

"We elected to have a drink at the bar and wait 20 minutes past our reservation time for a seat on the terrace, which I think was a good choice. You get to be a part of the energy and street life without being in the thick of it. Our meal was superb. I highly recommend the sea scallops as an appetizer. They are served with a delicious sauce akin to a vanilla bean beurre blanc. My husband had the grouper for his entree and I had the sea bass. Both were cooked to perfection and came piping hot. Service was attentive and our waitor was knowledgeable. I should also mention that our bartender was very warm and pleasant. We would definitely return."

"We ate here after reviewing the South Beach seafood options. While the food was generally good, I cannot recommend the paella. It was soupy, lacking that crisp, almost burnt, texture that is the hallmark of outstanding paella, and the seafood was undercooked. Perhaps my experience was an aberration but I would order this dish with caution if you are expecting an authentic experience. On the positive side we enjoyed the ambiance and the service was attentive."

"Located in the heart of South Beach on the Art Deco Ocean Drive, we were gifted with a beautiful view of the full moon rise (over Miami). Who would have thought that it would be windy and in the 50s in Miami in March! The restaurant accommodated with outdoor heaters. They were very effective. The food was excellent. The seafood paella was made with orzo and was wonderful. I very much enjoyed the lobster bisque but stopped at the point of licking my plate. My wife had the macadamia crusted Snapper and also found it to be excellent. We had a table on the front deck so that we were able to people watch while listening to live Latin music next to us. Overall it was very romantic and a quintessential South Beach Miami experience."
