Casual waterfront dining right on the docks of the Patchogue River, The Oar serves up fresh and delicious steaks and seafood. Chefs prepare specialties like coconut shrimp, 36 oz sizzling prime porterhouse, lobster quesadillas and fresh Bluepoint oysters and little clams which are delivered daily. Two dining rooms are decorated in traditional nautical style. The front wall in made up of French doors that open onto the water, providing dockside open air seating in warm months and picturesque views of the marina year-round. The rear dining room is elegant with raise panel mahogany, white table clothes and blue and white nautical stripe wall paper. We look forward to accommodating your special occasion in the separate catering room. The restaurant stocks full indoor and outdoor bars so you'll never miss a beautiful night at this fun and entertaining spot.

"The dinners seem to be gearing up for the summer rush. The sides now are quick and simple, e.g. a rice pilaf kind of thing as opposed to some very good garlic mashed potatoes. If you are going for fine dinning and not just drinks on a canal I would wait until after Labor Day."

"We had a great meal! It is probably best to visit the Oar in good weather because being able to eat outdoors by the beautiful marina is a real plus. Inside is very crowded, low ceiling & busy bar makes it very LOUD at the table. The skillet mussels are fabulous.....all of the food is surprisingly upscale."

"I've been going to this place for a long time now. I just recently we went there with my family this past weekend and it was not good at all! The fish was OK and sides were absolutely horrible. Who eats brussels sprouts????? Our waitress couldn't care less about our table. We told her that the sides were horrible and she less than eager to replace it. I said i'll just have fries and she said your gonna have to wait a while for them to come out.........Well they came out in about 3 minutes which wasn't a long wait at all but they were soggy and tasteless just like the sides.
This use to be a good place to go with the family but now its just a noisy annoying restaurant that over charges for fish. I will not be returning anytime soon"

"We went on a Saturday in April and food and service was fantastic. There was a guitar player at bar and ambiance was very laid back and comfortable. Can't wait to have a nice outdoor dinner in the summer!"

"Excellent food, but not the place for a quiet dinner on a Friday night. Check for live music if looking for a quiet dinner. Will definitely go back, but on a night w/o live music."

"I have eaten here for lunch on the deck overlooking the water numerous times when I worked in Patchogue and have always enjoyed myself. I went for dinner for the first time this past weekend. The food was amazing! There were four of us total and days later we were still texting eachother about the great dinner we had!"

"We have been here many times and were very disappointed this time. Mussels app smelled so fishy it was impossible to eat although calamari was delicious. Duck was mushy not crispy as menu states and twice baked potato looked like it came pre-packaged and right from the freezer. Dessert and service were best part of our evening. Maybe it's the off-season but makes me not want to return."

"I have been coming to the oar for as long as I can remember. But one thing I noticed the pricing has gotten crazy. They are starting to over price themselves.. $14.00 for an oar burger. Really."
