Charlie Palmer's signature Progressive American cuisine first took root in the original townhouse location of Aureole, where the chef made an early commitment to farm over factory food. Today, Aureole continues to shine at One Bryant Park under the kitchen leadership of Executive Chef Marcus Gleadow-Ware. Dining at the contemporary Aureole is staged in two venues: the formal Dining Room and more casual Bar Room. In the Dining Room, terra-rich colors and golden lighting combine to create a comfortable environment and opulent warm glow, reminiscent of Aureole’s original townhouse intimacy. Evening guests may select from a 3-course prix fixe or tasting dinner menu. For lunch, a seasonal 3-course prix fixe menu is available as well as a la carte selections. Reservations can be made here for the Dining Room only. To be seated in the Bar Room, please visit the Aureole - Bar Room.
"You won't find better food anywhere in the world. The tastes blend and everything melts in your mouth. If I have one complaint it would be being charged $8 per person for one glass of sparkling water after ordering a bottle. I don't mind spending over $800 for 3 of us to have dinner but I resent being taken advantage of."

"Wonderful dining experience and terrific food. Was a great find and a true treat. Of course, it was nice to meet the chef of a chef-owned restaurant, too."

"We dined at Aureole before our Broadway show in New York last week. The location next to the lovely Bryant Park on 42nd street is perfect, as you can just walk the few blocks to most of the theaters after diner. But the true gem here is the food. we choose 3 courses from their pre-theater menu ($55), and I must admit that they where all outstanding. I had the best Pasta dish I have had for years, and their chokolade dessert was outstanding. In between the steak dish was also very good, with especially the smoked potato on the side which really impressed and gave the dish another level from the normal steak dinner. First class all the way. Highly recommend dining here before your theater show. Regards Visitors from Denmark."

"it can be expensive, but you live once, might as well live it up! the aureole cocktail was so delicious, get it! and I requested a candle in the dessert and they brought out a lovely plate with a candle and written in chocolate "Happy Birthday" it was so cute!"

"Everything was incredible. It was one of our very best dining experiences ever. We had the 7 course chef's menu and could not find anything negative to say about any of the dishes. Service was impeccable. This was our second visit to Aureole and we are already looking forward to the next one."

"My husband and I went to Aureole for our anniversary. It is now our favorite restaurant in New York. The service was outstanding, and our dining experience was perfect. My husband NEVER eats peas, but he was brave enough to try a pea puree that was simply a part of my dish, and he kept on lapping it up. This is a restaurant that is not to be missed."

"We have always loved Aureole and are happy to dine there prior to theatre. The food is wonderful and the staff lovely but this past Friday night the kitchen seemed to have a real problem delivering. Our party of 4 was prompt for our 6 PM reservation and ordered quickly yet didn't receive our entrees until 7:25. We had to rush through our meal with no time for coffee in order to make our curtain at 8. The wait staff was apologetic but we felt rushed nonetheless."

"I would highly recommend this restaurant. All the dishes were artfully plated and tasted as good as they looked! The decor is very tastefully done inside. The cod was amazing and the toffee dessert was delicious too. I liked this better than LeBernadin for atmoshpere and food."

"We went for a pre-theatre dinner and were asked in the beginning when our show started. Even though we had ample time (>2.5 hours), we were rushed through the entrees. This culminated in our waiter asking us if we wanted our entrees, while my wife was still eating her appetizer. In the end we had to wait 25 minutes for our check - so why all the rush to begin with? Food and ambience however were excellent."

"Chose Aureole for a pre-theatre dinner, and it served its purpose ably. So if you need a pre-theatre option, you should consider it. But if not, don't bother. The food was all "fine", nothing stand out. Service was quite cold, in my opinion, and did nothing to enhance the experience. Atmosphere is corporate. Bill (inc. tax and tip) for 4 with two glasses of wine and one cocktail (no supplements) was almost $550. Generally I expect to enjoy my dinner experience more when I'm dropping that kind of $$$, but since I chose it simply because of location to the theatre, and we did in fact arrive at the theatre in plenty of time, I guess I got what I set out to get."

"Menu was limited; food tasted good; nothing remarkably special; white glove style service; a bit sterile of an enviornmen in the dining room; bar room more lively, but a bit too loud for a romantic/special dinner with real conversaion"

"We went for the Sunday Roast Beef dinner, Big Mag Boeuf Sundays, in the bar. The meal was very good and an excellent value - three courses with wine was $49 before tax and tip. There were no options on this menu but that wasn't an issue for any of our group since the dishes were perfect for a roast beef dinner. The dessert, Baba Bouchon, was outstanding. Also, one of us doesn't drink red wine so they offered a white instead. This gets our highest rating - it is a Do-Over."

"Food was surprisingly good. Indeed it was very good: tasty, beautifully presented, balanced. Service was good: the mâitre was a bit too electric for my taste. As it is usual in NYC, sparkling wine was served a tad less chilled than it should have been and a glass of red Burgundy was served at room temperature - a mistake so widespread that I gave up complaining. The setting was nice if a bit stifling. The internal room is secluded but small and the ceiling is on the lower side. Apart from that, a restaurant to return due to the quality of the food."

"We have been there a few times and were on the fence, but felt this past time, that this is just not what we want/expect from a fine dining experience. I think the ratings should be within the frame of reference of the cost, as well as the expectations of service."

"we had made reservations for the dining room (because of the "romantic rep") and were steered into the bar area dining upon arrival (which is neither intimate or romantic). Food similar in both areas (and was awesomely tasty) but patrons should be clear ahead of time what area of the restaurant they want."

"Our third time here in last 3 visits to NYC. A little bit of a weight for our table in dining room this time. Bar area quite lively and noise level high. Dining room was very pleasant in contrast. Mark, our maitre de table and his team was very good. He easily handled our request for vegan dishes and the chef created very good entree dishes for us. Very convenient location for us when we come to town. Also proximate to a number theaters you can walk to."

"We had read really good reviews online and so maybe our expectations were a bit high. Everything tasted good, but service was a bit slow. We came in as the pre-theater crowd was heading out and so we were essentially ignored for 20 minutes. They didn't seem to have the rhythm of service quite right. Overall a nice meal, but wished we gone back to Daniel instead."

"The five course dinner menu was great! The Hudson Valley foie was spectacular. The evening I went there was a private function at the bar and the room was noisy. Other than that the experience was very good and will repeat. The move from their previous location is a definite plus."

"A spectacular meal. Would have to be in my top 10 best meals. Every dish had it's own twist and was well presented. My wife had the lobster and I had the Rib Eye for our main courses. Can't say enough about the meals, steak was done to perfection and the lobster was perfect. A meal we won't soon forget - excellent food with excellent service - highly recommended."

"Service was excellent. Most of the dinner crowd is pre-theatre since Broadway is located a block away. We were not pre-theatre and advised them of that, and they did not attempt to rush us at all through the meal. Prix-fixe is reasonable for restaurants of this calibre and overall a good experience."

"Went for pre-theater dining. Wished we had more time! Not rushed by staff, just would liked to have lingered longer. Rabbit incredible, foie gras divine, and free-range chicken succulent...presentations tastefully elegant. Highly recommend and we will return. If it is pre-theater, we will add at least 30 minutes to our reservation..."

"Always enjoyable, standards still surprise. The beef carpaccio elegant and light with a silky marbled sheet of beef; the salmon gravlax constructed like a small planter ringed by a crispy dough, with herb sprigs, green sprouts and shoots delicately tucked in to tease the palate, stacked with funnels of cucumber slices holding caviar, radish rounds cut like flowers it was as beautiful as it was delicious. The butter poached lobster was succulent, just cooked flesh infused with the decadence, the rib eye was the heart of the cut perfectly done as a round of savory, crusty meat sliced through the rare middle. Wine list is extensive, by the glass perfectly adequate. With spouse tucked into the banquette, I felt like proposing - again!"

"Read some of the negative reviews and I was skeptic, specially because the "new" location is kind of not the crowd that they use to have at UES, but I was very impressed and happy with the food, service, ambiance, etc. I loved it and food was as fantastic as always. "Celebrated my niece's 13th Birthday with a day trip to NYC. Aureole for lunch was one of several highlights. I've visited on several occasions and have never been disappointed. Lunch is spectacular and the prix fixe menu is always fabulous and very reasonably priced. Service and food are everything you'd expect from a James Beard-winning chef's restaurant. A wonderful destination sure to please."

"The food and ambiance were excellent for lunch. The service was a little spotty with what appeared to be only one Captain in the dinning room - which must have at least 16 tables. When our party had his attention he was extremely gracious, knowledgeable and accommodating but there was no check back or personal attention, which took away from the quality of the overall experience. My only other concern was that the corner banquette seating in which I sat was well worn and, even as a tall person, I felt I was sitting below a comfortable level with the table.
Charlie Palmer's wizardry is still on display and Aureole provides a wonderful escape in this noisy part of town but I wonder if his focus has become a little too commercial."

"When we arrived, I realized I could not recall what time our show began that evening. The staff researched it for me and let me know. We had one or two special requests that the staff handled with graciousness. My black cod was truly outstanding. Everyone else at the table gave the food rave reviews. It was a terrific experience. "Truly outstanding food with no drop in quality from the prior location and hey day. Unfortunately a lot of the personal dining experience is now gone as the when we ate at the prior location we had our own personal table attendant who oversaw the other waiters, made suggestions, was a wine pro, and great guide for the evening. In addition the restaurant was quiet and romantic. Now it is a hustling and bustling place with a bar scene up front which is very loud and the noise filters into the open door into the small dining room. Instead of a personal attendant you now get a standard waiter who is very good mind you (ours was Mark) but it is not the same as in the old place. However, the food itself makes it still worth the visit."
