Bennett's Chop & Railhouse
In every city, there is a natural gathering spot for city folk and neighborhood people in the know. This place in Saint Paul is know as Bennett's Chop & Railhouse. Located on West Seventh & Victoria, it is the perfect meeting place of uptown and downtown, of quiet neighborhood and big city lights.
It's called a chophouse because it specializes in a casual steakhouse atmosphere with top-of-the-line cuts of the finest meats. It is a railhouse because it is on the old railroad line serving the city and rail drinks (as well as top brands) are served in the convivial atmosphere of the horseshoe bar.
And of course Bennett's is Bennett's because owners Joe and Meghan Bennett ensure that welcoming hospitality is always served. They have taken their decades of experiences with leading hospitality brands and translated it into an intimate venue where you're not only a customer, but more importantly, a welcome guest.

"The food was not very good it was either under cooked (Bacon) or overcooked (American Potatoes). i have to say the staff was willing to take the bacon back to the kitchen and cook it for us. I wouldn't go back for a special occassion. The price of the buffet didn't match the food choices."

"We heard from a friend Bennett's was a great restaurant and wanted to try it. We easily made reservations for a Sat. night and had a good experience. The cheesy potatoes were a disappointment and the chop salad was over dressed, but the prime rib was good and the bacon wrapped shrimp was delicious! We plan to go back again and I would love to get co-workers to meet for happy hour sometime."

"This was my second visit to the rail house . First visit was great! Food very good, service was great! My second visit unfortunatly not as good. As we were seated, another couple was seated next to us. They ordered and received their drinks before we even got water, no big deal, it was busy. Then after twenty minutes ( no exaggeration ) we finally was asked our drink order. The couple next to us received and finished their salads, we finally received our drinks! We finally ordered our meal, table next to us was receiving theirs. After about ten minutes the waitress tells me only half rack of ribs left, so I did have them( asked for full rack ) table next to us finished and left. When I received the ribs, my food was cold!"

"This is a popular place with great food. I am so glad that we made a reservation because almost everyone arriving after us without a reservation had to wait up to an hour which is fine if you can sit at the bar. I can't wait to go there again and have the chef chop salad. My husband raved about how good his steak was. Great place with very good service."

"Had heard Bennett's was a great place to eat. Thought it might be like Mancini's down the street. Not even close. Slow service and unable to hear across the table. This is a bar not a restaurant. Go to Mancini's if you want a great stake house."

"My 1st experience at Bennets was amazing. My girlfriend and came here before the wild game. Cory was our server did an excellent job explaining the menu, gave recommendations on what to eat. Cory also informed us on how the shuttle bus worked for going to the game. The owner Joe made his rounds and he was the bus driver to the game."

"Came here for dinner on Saturday night at 6:30pm with a party of 7 people. We happened to arrive to a St. Patrick's Day wild atmosphere. The party bus was at the restaurant when we arrived, so you can imagine how wild it was. Inside the place was packed and I was worried our table would not be available. It was incredibly noisy with people yelling, soccer horns blaring, and clearly not a place you would want to have a nice dinner at. The inside was a bit dingy and not the nicest dining room. We approached it though with an open mind. The food was pretty good though. We had 2 Filets, 3 burgers, a steak sandwich, and 1 Sirloin. All were quite good. My personal plate had a 6 oz Filet, fries, and only 5 green beans. So, so at best."

"Billed as a Chop House, one woild expect good pork chops. Not gristley, thin sliced, overcooked chops found at Cub Foods. They were billed as having a bourbon sauce. It seemed more like maple syrup.

The sirloin was fine. It was prepared as requested and looked more like a tenderloin. Its taste was what would be expected of a sirloin, as was the meat's grain; on the coarse end of the scale, but perfectly acceptable for the cut."

"Bennett's is a great neighborhood roadhouse. As you approach is microscopic parking lot, you can see it's bus-to-the-Excel and other sporting events. (And we were able to get 6 PM reservations through you, even at the last minute on a Friday night. Thank you.) The place is lively and relatively compact in size, yet the menu is expansive. My wife ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs and was encouraged to make it a full-rack (which was a good thing because we finished them off the next evening at home) and I ordered the pork chops which cam in a nice sweet-n'-sour glaze. We both had baked potatoes and, again at the suggestion of our attentive waiter, ordered a molten chocolate and ice cream dessert. Very tasty!"

"Me and my wife went their for my 43 birthday. I am a chili head and love severe heat and hot food. They had wings and one was listed as Nuclear, I asked my waiter if he heard from others, are they really hot? I explained I love the heat, Sadly they were wimpy, I feel that BBW Blazin wings were hotter, and even then those are not that hot. I think they should make then super hot to fit the name, or simply remove the name. I understand many will think the heat is off the charts, but just call them hot.
Other wise the steaks were great, cooked to order, and the green beans that came with it were fantastic. We will be going back, we really want to try the burgers and see how they compare to places like the Nook."

"Bennett's was terrific! I brought a group of 8 to lunch. The service was attentive, and the waiter did a terrific job with explainations on house specialties. I will definitely return again. I have noted the happy hour specials from 3-6pm so may give that a try in the near future. The food was fantastic - all perfectly prepared - and 100% of my guests loved the place and the food."

"This is a little neighborhood bar/restaurant. The food is superb! Us five girls completely enjoyed our dinners. Three of us had the special, which was the Prime Rib. YUM! One had the Cajun chicken pasta dish (loved it!), and I had the walleye (drool!) The walleye wasn't heavily breaded, which I like. The house salads are really unusual but very good. They resemble a cole slaw in that the lettuce is finely chopped, with a Ranch'ish dressing (not too much) with bacon crumbled on top. (Can't go wrong with anything topped with bacon, right?) Their Bloody Mary's should be listed as an appetizer: shrimp, mushroom, pepper, pickle, with a beef stiok complete with a hole drilled in the center to use it as a straw! Thoroughly enjoyable!"

"Bennett's is a great neighborhood eatery. The entire staff makes you feel welcome, clientel is newborn to 99, and the food is fantastic! Don't miss the chop salad. Dressing is light and creamy. I had the 1/2 roasted chicken with risotto. The fresh rosemary and mushroom was a perfect balance that let the all the flavors come through while still tasting the juicy chicken.
Be prepared for a crowded wait for your table on the weekend. Even though the restaurant was very busy we were seated within 5 min. of our reservation time of 6:45 Friday evening.
Also, no matter who your server is, he or she will be great!"

"1st time at Bennett's and while the atmosphere was a little more energetic than I like, the food more than made up for the energy. My ribeye was seasoned and grilled to perfection and my wife's chicken alfredo was delicious. We will go back another night when the Wild aren't in town to see if it is as energetic."

"Went for valentines day. We thought it would be a long wait for food but everything came out so quick and was perfectly timed. It was loud but there were a lot of people in for the Wild game. Great spot. Great food. Would definitely go back."

"We ate at Bennetts on a Thursday night. As we walked through the door there were two men standing, drinking beer and talking. We assumed they were waiting to see the hostess. After about a minute I asked them if they were in line and was ignored. I finally pushed my way through and found a employee around the corner. She found our reservation and showed us to our table. Hannah our server was friendly and welcoming. She was the first breath of fresh air we had at Bennetts. She was very knowledgable and helped us make our choice. Our appetizer was the scallops which were good, along with a cup of beer cheese soup which was outstanding. We both had the 6oz sirloin which were outstanding, a big surprise."

"If this were the first time we'd come to Bennett's, we'd not be returning. Due to our previous experiences, we will be back. Will just be sure that there isn't a Wild game going on at the time.
The food we ordered was alright, though I'll not have the short rib sandwich again. It was messy and not very flavorful.
The noise level was unbearable and the two adults in my group got headaches from it. We've been to Bennett's when it has been loud, but this was mindnumbingly so.
We look forward to returning when nothing's going on. It will be MUCH better."
