Zentan
No matter the occasion, Zentan is your DC destination for Modern Asian Cuisine. Our ambiance is perfect for social events, dates, meetings and celebrations and is rivaled only by our chef inspired, seasonal cuisine and handcrafted cocktails. Every bite of our sushi is sustainable, flown in fresh and shaped into creative crudos, delicate sashimi and rolls not found anywhere else. Iffy about sushi and sashimi? Not a problem! Our small plates, noodles and entrees are Pan Asian inspired with an Americana twist. Each dish is served piping hot and plated to share; think Asian Tapas! Here are a few dishes to whet your appetite: a 19 ingredient Singapore Slaw served with a salted plum dressing, escolar crudo with pickled jalapeño and jicama, fried rice with cilantro and pineapple or a Five Spice soufflé with salted ice cream.

"The sushi rolls were really good. We had the firecracker roll, the ocean roll, and the typhoon roll, but the ocean roll was my favorite. The brussel sprouts were also good. They had a bit of a bite to them that was very tasty."

"My wife and I took my mother here for her birthday. Our waitress was wonderful and attentive. The restaurant had recently redone their menu and she took the time to explain the changes and make some general recommendations. Our food and drinks were all amazing and I personally recommend the Crispy Honey Glazed Tofu and the Spider roll. The only issue I had with our meal was the wait for food. I've worked in the service industry so I know this had nothing to do with the waitress but both the bar and kitchen took forever to get us our orders. After we ordered, it took about 10-15 minutes for our drinks to arrive and almost 30 for our meal. We came at 6pm and the restaurant was barely half full."

"decent sushi. they try to put a twist on the items. some of which are good and creative, and some unnecessary. if you have good sushi, you don't need to dress it up with extra stuff. I don't think it was worth the money, and wouldn't come back again."

"Food was very good for this late lunch we had. However, we expected the service to be better than it was seeing that we came after the lunch rush. There were only two servers working the floor for three tables which included us. Server was not very attentive, made multiple requests to ensure our drinks & water were replinished. The multiple times we eat here, the food is regularly very good, its just the inconsitency in service which does not allow this restaurant to shine."

"The food was very good. They were out of most drinks we ordered. No alternative drinks were presented to us either. Our waitress was horrific. She was grumpy, mumbled, walked away from us when we asked questions and seemed like she wanted to be anywhere but helping us. For the price if our meal we desered and expected good service."

"Around 9:30 on a Saturday night, my wife and I met my friend and her wife from out of town. This was our first time at Zentan, and it didn't disappoint. We made a reservation and were seated upon entering. Decor was pleasant but definitely the noise level is up there. Still, we were able to chat comfortably with our friends. The food was very good... we took some of the waiter's recommendations (which were spot on) and all shared the different plates/rolls. Definitely want to go back and try the rest of the menu at this place."

"I was disappointed to have to wait 10 minutes at the hostess stand and finally went to the bar to get seated. They have a new chef but I can't believe they got rid of their Singapore slaw. Unfortunately, the website menu was not updated so I found that out after I got there. They also no longer offer the spicy Thai martini although our bartender did a good job trying to replicate it without all of the original ingredients. I used to love this place nd our meal was still good but it is no longer a favorite"

"I was very disappointed to find out, after we sat down, that Zentan now has a different chef. I was also very surprised to find out that, even a new chef, Zentan's prices remained the same. I ordered the seasonal vegetable salad which ended up being a bag of lettuce on my plate with 4 small pieces of beets thrown in along with too many cherries, and it cost me $10. I ordered the striped bass which was better than the salad but it was very salty and was not worth $28. I will not be going back to this restaurant."

"I took my family here when they were visiting from NYC. The restaurant was beautiful and our waitress was super friendly. Unfortunately, the drunken noodles were a huge disappointment. We ordered 2 dishes and they were both cooked so unevenly that there were bites of over-cooked noodles interspersed with hard, under-cooked mouthfuls. Having eaten at dozens of Thai restaurants in NYC and DC, we were pretty disappointed that this nice-looking restaurant would put out such an amateur dish. We sent one of the dishes back to the kitchen and the waitress apologized, saying it was a new menu. Would have been nice for the manager to talk to us, but he never came by. Zentan has a ways to go in food quality and management, but the decor is nice."

"sushi was delicious- had the redskin (spicy tuna) and the california. The 'shared' steak plate was pretty good but extremely small for $28. Noodle dishes were just so so and wouldn't order again although my husband liked the shrimp/scallop xo noodle dish.
Having visited New Orleans, our group found the beignets to be disappointing. not that tasty and dough seemed heavy. We specifically asked if there would be lots of powdered sugar on top and the waitress nodded many times yes. They barely had any coating on top when she brought them back. I'd be willing to give it another shot only to try more sushi and the vegetarian options as my veg friend noted they were good. Ambiance also pretty good and not extremely loud like other rests."

"I'm not sure what has happened to Zentan. I used to love this place. However, the last two times I've dined at the restaurant have been dreadful. This last visit, however, was unacceptable. We waited 20 MINUTES to have someone take our drink order and another 10 MINUTES to get our first drink. Then more waiting. Our drinks gone for some time we finally had our order taken with a second round of drinks. This time our drinks came quickly, however, our food took what seemed like an hour for just a few pieces of sushi and a few rolls. My order was completely wrong. I declined the offer of waiting for what I actually ordered because I was starving and we had been at the restaurant for almost 2 HOURS already. Then did not comp ANYTHING."

"The staff was amazing! Everyone from the host to the bus staff were friendly, helpful, and on top of things. The food was very fresh and delicious. The floor layout is interesting, just watch out for the large columns in the dining area, which make the traffic flow in the dining area sometimes bottleneck. "The food here is delicious. I would prefer it if they had a wider selection of reasonably priced wines and sakes--everything seems to be on the higher end--but the food is great! the singapore slaw is incredible, and the cantonese skirt steak is unreal -- some of the best tasting red meat i have ever ate. The rolls are tasty but ironically not the stars here. It's got a nice romantic vibe, so highly recommended for a lovely evening. Can't stress this enough, though, get the singapore slaw. it's unreal."

"I originally expected Zentan to be yet another overrated, expensive "Asian fusion" place amongst the many in DC, but the food was actually really really good. It's definitely still expensive but I'd say it's worth it if the food is good. Service was a bit slow, but for our purposes (wanting to spend quality time with friends), it was fine. I could see how it can be frustrating for others though."

"We chose Zentan because 2 members in our group were observing Lenten meatless Fridays. As always the food here is VERY good! Don't miss the Singapore slaw and pearl noodles! Our server was very nice UNTIL we told her we were not drinking... then her mood cooled quite a bit. Overall I have had many good experiences here. It's also a good place to eat at the bar as the bartenders take very good care of their single patrons."

"We had a combination of main dishes, small dishes and sushi. The small dishes and the sushi were fantastic. the display was beautiful. next time we'll get more small dishes and sushi to share because we thought they were better than the main dishes overall. Other reviews made me wonder if this was too hotel-like or small but it's actually a very large restaurant, very deep with a nice long bar. The tables are spread out so they felt intimate. we had a nice cozy round booth but the tables looked tempting. the restaurant had a cozy yet swank feel. It was exactly what we were looking for and the food was awesome. it's our new favorite (although a bit expensive). It felt hip yet intimate for a small group. The service was fine."

"Maybe it was Restaurant Week, but the service was not good! They took forever to take our order and then the food came out in random stages (as in some people got their appetizer and others did not for 30min so we were forced to watch each other eat!).
The food itself (from pre-fix menu) was tasty, although my friends were less than impressed with their sushi rolls.
The ONLY bright spot was the Hostess/Manager! She was nice and consistently checked in to make sure we were taken care of...although what is the point if the service doesn't get better afterward????
Overall, I would avoid this place with large groups and during restaurant week."

"We went to Zentan for DC's 2013 restaurant week and we were not impressed. We found the food very underwhelming. We started with the Singapore Slaw (their signature dish) and the Salt & Pepper Calamari. Both dishes were OK, but not exceptional especially the slaw. For our entrees we had the Pearl Noodles and the Shang's Crispy Garlic Chicken. The noodles were fine. The chicken was tasteless. The sad part about all of this was that we were not the only diners to have a less than exceptional meal. The couple next to us sent back two dishes, including the Atlantic Salmon which they said was overcooked or left under a heating lamp for too long. Anyway, after all that I had heard about Zentan I expected far more than what I got."

"The food was truly innovative and lived up to the promises. Often chefs that appear on TV tend to go commercial and lack substance. Suser's food was more than just hype, it exceeded expectations and after witnessing him greeting customers at a neighboring table, a very humble man indeed. I for one can not reccomend this place enough! Definitely something unique and exciting!"
