"the owner chef came to our table.... They accommodated our last minute extra guest with no fuss. The waiter suggested items that were fantastic..... The stuffing in the trout was a bit too salty. The apple sorbet was odd and we didn't finish it.

"Didn't quite live up to it's buzz for me. My meal was just okay: (Pasta with crab and fava bean.) The dish was dry. I had to ask for olive oil for my bread several times before it showed up...the one wine I wanted was not available...the only Oregon Pinot on the list. It WAS excessively loud, something I'd heard from literally everyone I spoke to about their experience at this restaurant. And the waiter, while providing adequate service, was a bit aloof.
I'd give this place one more try...maybe they had an off night. But...they just have to do something about the noise level."

"Initially we thought it was uncomfortably warm, and by the end of dinner...I was soaked. The ventilation is poor and the restaurant does not have air conditioning...a major draw back. The wait staff is organized in a peculiar way: a waiter greets you, and tells you the specials and then someone else comes to your table and takes care of you for the rest of your meal....this was very strange. The atmosphere is casual fine-dining, so a straight forward approach to wait staff would be more appropriate and appreciated.

"This was our first time at Central Market and we were do happy with everything. The service was great, everyone we dealt with was super friendly. The good was delicious!! We had an amazing table in the very front by a window, which was great for our 10 month old baby, it kept her entertained with people watching and out of the way if she got fussy (which she didn't). We will definitely be back!"

"Our experience at Central Market was great! We dined from the spring menu with one of us having the daily special, one of us having a pizza and two of us having the halibut. My dinner was the best I have had in a long time and I've been to some very well regarded restaurants. Attentive, unobtrusive service, incredible fresh food, excellent wine list. We are likely to go back to Petaluma just to go to dinner at Central Market. Highly recommend!"

"First time to Central Market, although we've heard about it for years. We were celebrating our friends' engagement. My daughter joined us, who is a bit of a picky eater. Our friends (from the East Bay) absolutely loved it, as we all did. The pate was outstanding, oysters (Happy Hour prices) were super fresh. Our waitress was pleasant, though a little rushed. She gave an excellent wine recommendation- always appreciated. When the Pot-de-creme arrived , along with the best cappuccino ever, we were all star-struck! The best part, was when my H.B. recognized an old college buddy up from Piedmont, the reunion was icing on the cake! Best dinner experience in a while! You guys got it going on! (PS. We live in Napa!!)"

"We stayed the night in charming Petaluma on our way up to Napa. The downtown area was full of quaint restaurants, but Central Market was a true find. The service was courteous and attentive, while the ambience was still casual, relaxed, and friendly. A lovely open space, that was energetic and vibrant.
Our waitress recommended a lovely, buttery Chardonnay - which we loved. Halibut was cooked perfectly, as were the scallops, but the real treat was seasonal dessert (and we never order dessert) - the lemon pie. Highly recommend."

"We booked a table for 4 for a joint birthday celebration. We've all dined there in the past and had positive experiences so this wasn't a first time visit. Somehow this or Saturday they really shone. The service staff was friendly, present when we needed them but not overly attentive. We appreciated the way they all worked with one another, none of that my table, your table issue. The food was outstanding. Rich and scrumptious pâté, delicious carmelized bacon cubes on the gem lettuce salad, the chicory salad was slightly over dressed, the entrees of short ribs and lamb were noteworthy. The lamb was truly exquisite, cooked perfectly and the couscous was phenomenal!!"

"Great meal with real Farm to Table food, I mean the pork that was on special was a pig from the chef's farm.
The service was friendly and warm and the menu had something for everyone. The wine list was notable because it had a nice array of wines at all different prices from various countries. We ordered a nice red from Nimes that was perfect with the pork and the lamb a few of our party was having. I had a Cremont for my halibut, loved it. Nice that they had it by the glass.
Overall we had a really good time here. These kind of places can feel pretentious but not Central Market. I would not order the fried pigs ears next time. They were okay but felt more like , "hmmm we have a pig what do we do with the ears.""

"Wonderful, highly competent service in a warm and convivial spot on a blustery March evening in Petaluma.
Sitting at the window table we watched Petaluma's Piano man entertain passers-by. We had asparagus/crab starter that was perfectly prepared. My rosy pink trout was flavorful, tender, and prepared simply enough that I could taste the freshness. My husband had the beef brisket and said piece A was perfect but piece B was a bit overcooked but I still give CM an outstanding five star rating. One of the best meals out I have had in Sonoma County in a very long time. The owners, the staff and the chef clearly love local food and have figured out how to create an authentic but magical experience with local flair."

"The salad with the smoked bacon was great. The entrees were good but nothing outstanding and the butterscotch pot of cream tasted burnt. We had a good size group and the waitress was attentive. However, it took a long time to get our food and there were a couple of mix-ups with the entrees (one individual didn't get his entree for 15 minutes after everyone else had been served). Next time I would stick to the pizza and salad and not go with a group."

"We were 30 minutes early and as the chef/owner came to open the restaurant, he was very accommodating and seated us immediately. We ordered the plated fix price menu, which was a 3 course dinner for 35.00. The Sonoma coast wine that was offered on their wine list went excellent with my dinner. "We went for restaurant week with 4 people and we all utilized the Prix Fixe option for 3 courses. The Wagyu sirloin steak is incredible and I enjoyed a lovely asparagus/crab appetizer. We finished with the lemon pie a la mode."

"This was our fourth visit to Central Market. We have always loved the food and service. This last time (St. Patrick 's Day) it was a bit less than stellar. Our server seemed a bit off (perhaps she wanted to not be working that night), and the selections on the menu were not as good as they usually are...I know that they cook seasonally, and perhaps that had something to do with the menu offerings. We will certainly go back....it was just a bit "off" that particular night."

"I truly enjoyed my birthday dinner at Central Market. We started our dinner off with a 1/2 dozen raw oysters that were delicious! We followed that up with a beautiful salad created with local greens and an amazing caesar style dressing. But, it was far from a plain caesar! Simply delicious, especially with the Nero d'Avola that we were drinking with our meal.
My husband had a wood fired pizza for dinner and was not blown away, especially since part of the pizza was very over done. BUT, I had the short ribs and they were delicious. Definitely in the top 5 meals I have ever had in my life.
Over all, it was a great meal and I can't wait to return and try the fish or the chicken!

"We're Regulars here and thus fans, but we had a an interesting (positive) experience as we arrived shortly after the sprinkler system doused their wood fired pit. They let the steam and smoke out, rewashed all the flatware an dishes, reworked the menu mid-shift and finished the evening with an abbreviationted but fine menu. Several of my favorites were available and the staff were SO COOL throughout. We had a fine dinner despite their handicap. The Show must go on!"

"The food is consistently good and its not your usual menu. However, I am a farily regular dinner customer and always feel the wait between first courses and our entrees is way too long.
I also find it interesting that Open Table evidently feels "energetic" is a nice way to say 'noisy' which Central Market most definitely is. I think there is a difference. The architectural structure of the room is simply not conducive to diffusing the noise level and conversation can be difficult."

"This restaurant is a gem. A great place to go if you want a special meal. The entire staff from the hostess to our server to the owner who took pride in his restaurant and on three different occasions during the course of our meal asked if everything was to our satisfaction. The food served was fresh, prepared flawlessly, and delicious. We will most definitely return."
