The Fireplace Reviews List

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Service was a little spotty because there had been an afternoon event that ended shortly before our arrival. Appetizer (Cape Cod mussels) and entrees (Duck and Cod) were excellent. Wine (a Barbera) was quite nice. Desserts were good, although the butterscotch bread pudding didn't seem to have a real butterscotch flavor. We tried the Haitian dessert - it was nice, just a little heavy."

Review 4 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"First visit. Enjoyable evening. The restaurant appeared to honor my reservation request for "a quieter table, if possible" as we were seated next to a window. Waiter was excellent: attentive, efficient, and seemed very knowledgeable about the menu/wines. When our group was trying to choose between 2 wines, he actually recommended the less expensive bottle. Food quite good, but did not elicit any "wow!" comments. Servings were generous. Restaurant was full and noise level moderate but the space seemed to do a reasonable job handling the crowd and the sound. Overall: not at the top level, but very good. A restaurant to which I would not hesitate to bring guests or to visit again myself."

Review 5 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"Disappointed. Overall, the food was mediocre and definitely over-priced ($24 for ravioli?) though some items were excellent (e.g., the smoky kale side-order). Croutons on Caesar salad ($10) were soggy but the squash bisque was excellent. The wine list was quirky (all American), which could have been good but the two wines we had (both around $50) were substandard, one-dimensional and "fruity," while our waiter recommended them as among the best they had. The price was certainly high for wines of this quality. The crowded table layout made it difficult for customers or waiters to get around without bumping into people seated there. Dessert was unimpressive. A bread pudding was dry and cakey and juice of accompanying berries couldn't make up."

Review 8 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"manager was very good- we arrived slightly early for our reservation and were advised the table would be ready in a few minutes- the hostess kept altering story- we waited about 1/2 hour which was not a good start- manager sent over a lovely cheese plate to start and all the entrees were appealing to the eye and very good- a little noisy and very busy- perhaps a tad overpriced- but worth the trip"

Review 9 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"The Fireplace truly offers something for everyone. Their chef combines the best ingredients (many local grown or produced) into delicious dishes, the restaurant itself is a feast for the eyes, and the staff makes everyone feel like it's a special occasion, even when it's just a Thursday. You can splurge on some of their pricier items or enjoy their "Humble Fare" on a budget. My two quibbles (that kept them from a perfect score) is the set up. The tables can be too close together, making moving and private conversation tricky, and, if you are seated by the fireplace on a cold night, you roast and freeze by turns as people open the front door. They've added a heavy curtain in the hopes of keeping the cold air out, but it doesn't work."

Review 15 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"We had a wonderful dinner with friends from out of town. The warm atmosphere, terrific cocktails & incredible menu made for a great evening. Our only complaint - our waitress was less then attentive, she kept dissapearing for long periods of time, often leaving us impatient to order (another course, drinks, etc.) We noticed several other tables were also growing anxious about where their servers were."

Review 16 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"The food was really very good - real comfort food on a really cold night. And the service was competent. However, although we had a reservation and were there on time, we had to wait about 30 minutes for a table. And although they had 3 2-tops that would have accommodated our party of 5, the hostess claimed that this couldn't be done; the tables had to be for parties of 2 only. When we left, there was a party of 4 seated there!"

Review 26 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"The food was ok, the ambience was nice & unfortunately did not get a knowledgable or friendly waitress. She was not attentive & rarely came to our table to check-in or to let us know what the delay was with the kids' deserts. From our tables we observed the staff's confused looks and her trying to replace the order. One of the servers even tried to serve the deserts and was confused as to which table to go to. It was a hectic & extremely crowded. The restaurant needs a bigger waiting area. It was too cold to stand in the doorway & that is where you had to wait. This will not be a place for us to visit again, the food was too pricey for the very little attention we received. However, the Hostess was very pleasant & attentive."

Review 27 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"We ate at the Fireplace for Christmas. The restaurant was very crowded. I had the impression that they'd added tables for the night, making it very hard for servers to get around and the crowd waiting to be seated grew past the entry area, outgrew the bar and spread into the dining room, which was distracting.

The food was OK, though vegetarian options were a little thin and several dishes were a shade too sweet. The service was adequate but not impressive. Our server, for example, did not seem to know that the kitchen was out of green beans and substituting broccoli, so the person who brought the food over had to explain it every time she brought broccoli.

"Loved the roasted chicken and the eggnog creme brulee! Nice beverage selections as well. Great gourmet comfort foods and friendly service. Review 30 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"We felt claustrophobic, not only at our table but in the restaurant. They have too many tables squeezed into too small of a space. The table for 5 we were seated at was in a drafty window and my seat in particular was surrounded by curtains and made it hard to see or talk to the rest of my party. I know it's winter but almost all of the items on the menu are very heavy. It would be nice to have a few lighter options. We also found most of our food to be over-salted. Highlights were the steak options, the bread and the chicken."

Review 31 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"We've been frequenting this restaurant for the last year impressed with their great creativity with bar drinks and well prepared food. This last experience was totally disappointing. A ribeye was ordered and had to be sent back very overcooked. The Caesar salad was truly uneatable because the dressing was unbalanced. The service was particularly slow, but perhaps that has to do with the holiday, however this restaurant is used to being full. I think they need to regroup. It has been a slow decline and it's a shame...we really did like this as one of our staples."

Review 34 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 1.0 out of 5 (Poor)
"The menu was so enticing that we were almost overwhelmed with the choices, but the execution of the food was good, not great. The main disappointment of the evening was the service. Our appetizers arrived very quickly, but our entrees took quite a long time and we noticed other tables around us that had arrived later being served first. That's a big no-no. After the entrees arrived, we were basically abandoned. We were never offered coffee or dessert, and we had to ask the hostess for our check. Needless to say, we won't be returning."

"My husband said the duck was "the best" he had ever had. I had a lean offering of the cod and it was just fine. Great waitstaff! Thanks for a great evening! We plan to return. You had us from the minute we walked through the front door - the food smells are very compelling."

Review 39 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"This was a birthday treat for three people. I couldn't get a reservation for 6-7:00P.M., so made one for 5:30. The restaurant only had 3 - 4 tables seated and only about 1/3 at 6:15. We left at 7:15 and the place still had 6 - 8 empty tables - meaning we could have had reservations at the desired 6:30 time. Even tough I put it was a birthday treat on our OpenTable reservation, (we were all celebrating our birthdays), there was no mention of "Happy Birthday" or "Who's birthday is it?"

Over-all, it was only "good" food and didn't come off as anything "special," as we were hoping for. I was planning another get together for a group and considered going to "The Fireplace," again - it was quickly dismissed........

Review 41 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Some of the best food I have ever eaten; creative but still accessible. We ate their on Thanksgiving, and two members of our party had the turkey offering, another had the chicken and the fourth had the duck. Each one of us stated that it was among the very best food we have ever eaten. I'll be sure that The Fireplace is on my list for future special occasions. Simply a delicious meal."

Review 43 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"Only high point of evening was attentive waiter (and other wait staff). First seated at cold table directly adjacent door to restaurant. Dishes only so-so and not a good value for the price point at a restaurant of this type. Very reluctant to try it again (this was 3rd visit to this restaurant)."

Review 44 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"We went for Thanksgiving. The staff was attentive and we were shown our table immediately upon arrival. The salmon cakes had too much bread and almost no salmon. The turkey dinner was uninspiring especially for the price. There was no gravy and the waiter did not ask if the diners wanted white or dark meat. The rack of lamb was excellent."

"I went to The Fireplace for Thanksgiving dinner with my boyfriend of two years. The atmosphere was perfect for an intimate and romantic experience. Review 47 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"We went to The Fireplace on Thanksgiving day. The food was good but nothing exceptional. I had lobster bisque and my son had butternut squash bisque. Both of us felt that soup could have been served hotter. My daughter, a vegetarian, enjoyed her cheese plate appetizer. My wife said that the turkey was a bit dry. Overall it is an OK restaurant; however, I think it was overly priced for the quality of the food served."

Review 50 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"Dinner was fantastic, however service was spotty: when we arrived at 6:00 pm, the restaurant had four or five tables booked and service was attentive. As the hour progressed, more tables filled, the delays in seeing our waiter at our table, and those around us, lenghtened. It's not a large venue to have such inconsistency - especially on a family friendly Sunday night."

Review 53 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"I was excited when I first walked in because the ambiance was awesome. The food was delicious but the service was very poor. There were times where we'd wait 10-15 minutes before the server came back to our table to either ask if we wanted anything else or give us the check.

If the service is not usually like that I would recommend it, otherwise, stay away unless you enjoy waiting absurd amounts of time for food.

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Meal was great as usual, server was very knowledgeable and helpful with offering recommendations. Ambiance was very nice, we sat next to the fire which we requested with our reservation. Only criticism is that they should have a specials menu because of the fairly small main menu. Definitely a fantastic meal and a place we'll be going back to again and again, its the perfect place for a cozy fall or winter meal."

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Found this restaurant while surfing the Boston restaurant scene on the internet. It had great reviews from critics and diners. We were not disappointed. The selected cheese appetizer was very good. An excellent way to begin an evening. I had the fire grilled duck which was very good. My wife had the turkey which she enjoyed. The portions were substantial so you did not walk away hungry. The wine list was extensive and the prices were not outlandish. (As sometimes can be the case)."

Review 63 for The Fireplace

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"I love the location of this place, and really enjoyed the cozy and warm ambiance. One thing that everyone in our party noticed was that staff were not the friendliest that they could be. Our waitress was rather serious, although she attended to our drinks and our food was served hot and in a reasonable time. It was my daughter's birthday, but no one commented to her about it, despite viewing her gifts at the table.

Otherwise, our visit was very pleasant, food was delicious, parking was convenient and we all had a very nice time!
