Nougatine is the more casual sister of Jean-Georges, with a very lively bar scene at night. The restaurant attracts a mix of celebrities, socialites, and movers and shakers in the business world. Adjacent to the formal Jean-Georges dining room, Nougatine serves the signature and seasonal dishes of Chef Jean-Georges for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, 365 days a year. The menu is more casual than that offered at Jean-Georges but still market driven, utilizing only the freshest and finest ingredients. In addition to providing gorgeous views of Central Park, the newly renovated dining room by Thomas Juul-Hansen features a bustling, immaculate open kitchen. Tones of brown and cream mingle to create an elegant space that is soothing by day and exciting by night. Nougatine offers a prix-fixe lunch menu Monday through Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. Pre- and post-theater prix-fixe menus are available Sunday through Friday from 5:30 to 6 p.m., and from 10 to 11 p.m.
"If you are fond of JG restaurants, I think this has one of the best executed recipes of his group. However, as almost all NY, the attitude of the waiters for dinner might not be as good as the food. In an overall experience, is one of the best money you can spent in a breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. The French Toast is heaven and the Tuna Tartare is the best ever!"

"Lunch was just right. Food was fresh and tasty. The tuna tartare had a ginger sauce that was a bit strong, overshadowing the other flavors. Tha salmon was just delicious, cook to perfection. Chocolate desert was superb Nice experience altogether!"

"Food was outstanding and the prix fixe lunch was a great bargain. Unfortunately, the service wasn't nearly as good. Our waiter spilled an entire glass of champagne, breaking the glass all over our table, without offering anything to make up for his error. Also, we were seated at the worst table in he restaurant right next to the kitchen (is this "special table reserved for Opentable") and when we asked to be moved, they told us the other tables had been specially requested."

"We were shown a lovely table by the window overlooking Central Park. Our server was a nice young man. I ordered the kale salad as an appetizer while my husband had the peekytoe crab. The salad was delicious and beautifully presented; however, it was far too large and could have been a main dish. My husband found the peekytoe crab to be very nice but nothing out of the ordinary.
I ordered the Gemelli Pasta and my husband had the organic chicken. Both were fine but not tasty enough to make us return."

"The day after dining at Daniel (3 Michelin stars) we went to Nougatine for lunch. To our surprise the atmosphere was ten times as stiff as at Daniel, the lady who followed us to our table looked dismissively at my clothes and the overall mood was that "you are not good enough". I must add; we are a representative couple, clean clothes, good manners - but we do not ooz of money and upper class. In addition, the fodd wasn't THAT good so why the attitude I wonder... Will not recomment this and will definitely not go back."

"Fabulous! What a perfect way to dine. It's nice to find professional servers who really care. Four of us dined together and even the most predictable dish was delicious. The kitchen is so creative and refined; and even accommodated the food allergies at our table. First visit for dinner and not disappointed. Lunch is always equally good and priced well. There are many well praised restaurants but this one really deserves all the great reviews!"

"I went to this restaurant at different times in different seasons. I truly love this restaurant. The quality of food is upscale enough (probably comparable to Asiate in Mandarin Oriental, Morimoto, etc. and way better than Boulud Sud), yet it is less pricey than those upscale places like Asiate or Morimoto, and feel very casual. Very nice place for young and vibrant people who want upscale meals in a relatively casual mode without making a hole in the credit card."

"We have dined at several of Jean Georges restaurants and always enjoyed the experience but were disappointed with our dinner at Nougatine. Our waiter for the evening was very indifferent during the service and totally lacked warmth or welcome. For entree I had the prawn, avocado and tomato salad which was spoilt by a very powerful dressing which overwhelmed the delicate leaves, prawns etc. My salmon with spring vegetables however was cooked to perfection and I enjoyed this dish very much. My husband found his tempura of lobster a disappointing dish. We would not return to Nougatine, there are too many other great restaurants in New York city."

"I always liked going to Nougartine for brunch so I took a friend on Sunday. The food was as good as always but the service was disappointing. There were over 10 waiters running around preparing lunch setup so we could hardly get anyone's attention. The restaurant adds 15% service automatically to the bill and the prices on the menu are higher than most of other brunch places ($8 for cappuccino and $12 grape fruit juice). I would expect the service to be nothing short of the best. Given it is our neighborhood restaurant and I have had good experience previously, I would probably go there again. The food is delicious but I would only cautiously recommend it given the inconsistencies in services."

"A dining experience with outstanding food and service.- located at Columbus Circle. Each appetizer was exquisite - sweet pea soup, crabcakes, calamara. If only we could have ordered them all. The beautifully tasting and served Lobster Salt and Pepper was a treat. The desserts? Must go back to try all of them, too. An unbelievable wine list! If only we could have afforded some of the real pearls on that wine menu. But the recommendation we got was superb - matched the meal and our budget. Don't miss this dining pearl in New York!"

"WENT FOR A SPECIAL OCCASION DINNER, THE PEA SOUP HAS BEEN ON MY MIND FOR TWO WEEKS NOW. IT WAS SO GREEN AND JUST AMAZING. THE TASTING MENU WAS FANTASTIC AND WE DECIDED TO HAVE DRINKS INSTEAD OF JUST WINE AND IT PROVED TO BE A GREAT CHOICE. VERY LOUD ATMOSPHERE AND TABLES ARE TIGHT. THE COUPLE NEXT TO US HAD TO TURN SIDEWAYS AND SLIDE OVER SO I COULD GET OUT TO USE RESTROOM. WAIT STAFF WAS VERY ATTENTIVE AND FOOD WAS TIMED PERFECTLY. WOULD DEFINITELY GO AGAIN."

"We love Nougatine, but their timing was off. Although we arrived on time at 5:30, it took them 15 minutes to seat us, and 10 minutes to take our drink order at which time we told them we had a show at 7:00. They took our order about 15 minutes after that, and our main course food arrived 30 minutes after that, so we had to eat hurriedly and leave in a rush. They were very apologetic."

"The menu at Nougatine is very attractive. The quality of the cooking is excellent. flavouful and light. The general atmosphere is pleasant although the air conditionning is a little strong. Rather little kind service with few exceptions among the waiters/waitress. Few efforts to be understoodfrom people averagely speaking english... Nevertheless, we shall retrn to Nougatine for the very good general quality of this establishment."

"Maybe it was Mother's Day and the poor service could be chalked up to that-- but the food was at best pedestrian. From the I could have eaten it anywhere crab cake to the overpowering miso glaze on the cod to the undrinkable coffee. I would not willingly go back."

"The check-in seating process was disorganized, but perhaps that is unavoidable in the small space as they begin seating, I think it should have been better. Service was good as it should be at this level. Lots of staff. The food was good, especially the pea soup. One person in our party ordered it and all wished they had after seeing and tasting it. The main course, red snapper was good, but should have been served hotter. A good experience, but we won't rush back anytime soon."

"We went there on Saturday for Dinner. We choosed the Degustation Menu... The aspargus was O.k.. The Tuna and Avocado tartare were O.k., but sauce was too spicy to appreciate the taste... Maybe too much ginger. The Salmon was O.k.. The Beef tenderloin was O.k., but once again why the consume ?? Too much sauce hides the taste of the Meat. Spinache were good, but the green crepe wasn t good and the kind of cheese inside was not good.
But the thing was; why a so violent air conditionned on the top of our heads during the whole meal ?? It was not comfortable at all. The waiters were polite and were trying to help.
But definitely a disappointing Restaurant for those Prices."

"Nougatine shares a kitchen with Jean-Georges, but its prices and pretension are a notch lower. Nevertheless, a meal at Jean-Georges isn't inexpensive, and the food and service are both fussy. The bottom line: If you want the chef's cuisine without the full rococo presentation you'd get in the adjacent dining room, Nougatine will serve nicely."

"The meal was very enjoyable. I know it's a weird complaint, but the portions were way too big. My husband and I ordered a few courses and we were barely able to eat the main course because there was too much food. I understand some people only order entrees, but the appetizer was a little too plentiful to be followed by such a large entree."

Second, table service was a little off. Wait staff was oddly absent after ordering of meal.
Although standard at most other JG restaurants visited in City, guests had to fold own napkins after visit to ladies/mens rooms.
Also, after waiting fifteen-twenty minutes after completion of dessert, had to ultimately flag down another server to get our waiter's attention to bring check.
Third most of the food was delicious as anticipated: tuna tartare, sweet pea soup, roast black cod. However, lobster burger missed the JG mark. Not sure that the lobster lent itself to "burger" mode.
Although a nice dining option in NYC, not necessarily up to par with other JG locations in the city."

"We were seated almost 25 minutes late. This was barely noted in a most perfunctory way, and not mentioned again while food took longer than usual to emerge. When are main course finally came out, there was no flatware on the table and so we had to wait for that. We ran out without coffee, which hadn't been offered anyway. (One person did order it anyway, but did not have time to drink it.) I told the reception when we arrived that we had to leave no later than 3:10 pm -- for a 1:45 reservation. Should have been no problem. Staff was cold and didn't acknowledge the anxiety. Dissapointed that I booked this for my out of town guests. Food was great, but that was it."

"This is not the first time we've been escorted to a terrible 2 top. We were tucked into what could have been a converted coat closet, with a 2nd table so close that ours had to be moved completely out for me to wiggle into my seat. Too close for comfort, too close for conversation. We asked for the empty 2 top at the window, but were told it was "requested". I love the food here, but lost my appetite under these unacceptable conditions."

"Nougatine is still as pretty as ever, and great for a drink at the bar, but in my opinion the menu is definitely not what it used to be. The menu has become much more simple and basic than it used to be. I don't want a burger or pasta when I come to a Nougatine. I can get that anywhere."

"The reservation was for 5:45PM. The restaurant was informed that we had opera tickets at 7:30 PM, We ordered a cocktail and a glass of wine. Ten minutes later the waiter asked if we would like to order. No, we responded as we have not even received our drinks. A few minutes later the waiter reappeared and related that the cocktail, advertised on the menu, was not available. We ordered something different. The drinks arrived and after a few minutes we ordered dinner. An appetizer arrived in ten minutes. At 6:45 PM we asked when the entree would arrive, as we had to eat and walk to the opera. Confusion. Food arrived at a few minutes to seven, an hour after we were seated. We bolted our food and made it to the opera on time."

"We went there for my wife's birthday lunch. The calamari was the best I've ever had, wonderfully crispy and tender with a dip to die for. The baked chicken was the second best we've had (the first was at Dovetail). The desserts were very good too. Chocolate lava cake is easy to overdo, but this one was right on the money."

"Recently had a superb meal here to celebrate a special occasion, we got engaged that day in central park! A bit hard to find, the reception staff were so snooty that we found it more amusing than annoying - it seemed appropriate in New York. Glad I booked it on open table rather than by phone. Great service one inside the door and can't say enough kind things about our waitress who really made us feel comfortable and cared for. The meal was one of the best I've ever eaten, I've certainly never had better beef. Selection of desserts was amazing too. Heartily recommend it for a special night out in New York - the prices do reflect the quality and location of the restaurant after all!"
