Cafe Roma is a quintessential San Luis Obispo experience. From its classic Italian dining room a casual old world bar to the scenic shade covered patio, people say you could be anywhere in Italy while dining at the elegant Cafe Roma. Our more than 200 wine list changes monthly, always with additions of new, exciting Central Coast and Italian finds. Count on our knowledgeable staff to help expertly navigate the menu and extensive wine list. Our kitchen is driven by the freshest regional and seasonal ingredients. This cooking is the heart and hand of Italy, an amazing compliment to the beautiful Central Coast. It’s not uncommon to see vintners dining at the bar. Sometimes Cafe Roma has the feel of a downtown Roma restaurant, other times it’s more like an elegant café in Greve.
"We sat down at 7:15 and did not leave until 9:30. Service was extremely slow. The appetizers were decent but I barely ate my meal because it was awful. Olive Garden quality for a much higher price. The shrimp definitely tasted microwaved. Will not be back. Was embarrassed to have family with me when we went."

"I've been coming to Cafe Roma for years and it ceases to appease my taste buds. The service is always outstanding, the good is delicious, and they offer a great variety of local wines. I recommend it to anyone in the area that wants a great meal!"

"Marcus helped us out a lot, with choosing a meal to choosing an appropriate matching wine. Checked on us often, and even brought us some delicious biscotti for me and my girlfriends anniversary. Very friendly."

"My dinner was excellent. I took most of the recommendations from the waiter, who didn't steer me wrong. Excellent wine list, inlay ding the owner's own label.
The one drawback was that it is right next to tr Amtrak and bus station. It wasn't super noisy when I was there, but the parking lot is somewhat busy and I imagine that would get loud during the day.
Overall a very nice dinner. A tad expensive, but not outrageous."

"Cafe Roma continues to have the best food and atmosphere in SLO. Service is impeccable. In contrast to the current trend in overly loud restaurants, Cafe Roma is still a place where you can hear table conversation. My favorite place to dine in SLO."

"Calamari, caesar salad, veal piccata , and wild salmon were delicious. Ambience wonderful especially since weather was good enough to comfortably sit outside. Been a favorite of mine for close to 20 years."

"My wife and I decided to eat at Cafe Roma last Saturday night and made a reservation for 7:15. While we were shown our table on time, we waited 45 minutes for my wife's appetizer. Apparently it was prom night and the place was filled with high school kids in formal dress, and so the waiter told us that in the rush, the chef had forgotten to get to my wife's order. Subsequently, when my wife ordered a cup of coffee with dessert, she was given half a cup of lukewarm brown water. When I pointed this out to the waiter, he said that the coffee machine was broken. I understand that a restaurant can be slammed with a large crowd and that mistakes can happen, but on the whole, I feel we were treated arrogantly as if we were lucky to be there at all"

"The ambiance at Cafe Roma is beautiful and relaxing. I had the butter nut squash ravioli that just melted in my mouth. And for dessert, I had the creme brulee, which was fantastic and my husband loved his chocolate Mousse! We have been there twice with large groups and the service was wonderful. I look forward to going back for a date night with just my husband and I."

"Our waiter was new and told us several times that he was new but, he was a horrible waiter. What saved the night was we had a very attentive busboy. They should promote him to waiter. The food took forever, it was very busy and loud. The restaurant still had a good vibe and I'm sure it was just an off night. The owner came over and brought us a glass of wine on the house. So, apparently they were aware of their problems."

"Been to Cafe Roma so many times, its hard to write something new. I just love the arugula and portabello salad... I dream about it, it's so good. And when they have osso bucco, that's a must too. We had a great waiter and the whole evening was a perfect dining experience."

"The food selections were nicely presented but flavors were only so-so. The waiter was excellent, very attentive and cordial. A huge party was seated adjacent to our table and were VERY noisy...this isn't the fault of the restaurant, but it did spoil our evening. It made it very difficult to even have a conversation. My recommendation to the restaurant would be to put large parties, 10-12 people, in a more secluded area of the restaurant. You may share any or all of this review directly with the restaurant."

"We thought the food was vey good. The service was slow. The waitress forgot the wine order and we had to re-order the wine. She spent alot of time in coversation with the next table. Likely while our food was waiting to be picked up as the lamd dish was not hot on arrival. The waitress needs some help coping with customers who take up her time at the expense of doing her job. I thought she had very good potential when she was able to focus. I do not blame her solely as the other table was quite demanding of her time. We want to have fun too but also a good meal with good service. Otherwise a very good restaurant. Marne Trevisano"

"Ate here while visiting from SF. Looking for "foodiest" place in SLO and based on the Delfina-type online menu thought I'd found the closest thing. I should have smelled trouble when they dropped the bread and there was a balsamic drizzle in the olive oil dipping bowl. Food was closer to Olive Garden; fish was served WAY over, Lamb Sugo Tagliatelle on the sweet, canned flavor side and tapenade (not really a tapenade, more of a relish) was too sweet, overly onioned and barely edible.
Service was slow, smug and old school.
That said, placed was packed on a Saturday night and everyone else there seemed to be enjoying themselves."

"Cafe Roma is simply the best Italian restaurant on the Central Coast of California. Consistency is the key to this dining gem ... The four most important things about a great restaurant always seem to to be happening in harmony at Cafe Roma - the cuisine, the wine, the service, and the ambience. Marco and his family have never failed to deliver less than excellence for the 14 years I have been a patron. Grazie mille!"

"I had never been here prior to this trip. I was worried that it wouldn't be "romantic" enough for Valentine's Day. I was definitely wrong. Cafe Roma is an awesome restaurant for special occasions or a romantic night out. The Filet Mignon was the best I'd ever had."

"I loved the food & service was great. Our waiter (Marc I think) was very friendly but not in an over-the-top-I'm-extra-nice-cuz-I want a big tip type of way--if that makes any sense? We did have to wait a bit to be seated as they were very busy & we showed up early for our reservation. Still we could have been seated right away in the enclosed & heated outdoor patio but my wife wanted to sit inside so we waited for a table inside. Cost is in line with similar restaurants, $30 for three course special which included a salad, chicken with veggies & potatoes for a main course & apple strudel with home made ice cream for dessert--everything was delicious. I can't afford to go here every week, but I will definitely go back for special occasions."
