TRACE restaurant and bar, lead by Chef de Cuisine, Steven Ariel, is a must-try for foodies, where a “localist” focus means a menu filled with contemporary, inventive dishes using regional specialties, including farm fresh produce, sustainably caught seafood and a curated sake menu at our sleek sushi bar. TRACE offers dynamic hand-crafted cocktails and liquor from regional distilleries, a wine list featuring notable Washington State wineries in addition to choice domestic and international selections from California, Oregon, France and Italy.
"Recently dined at Trace and the experience was outstanding from the unique food (ie. Crispy Egg - AMAZING) and the exceptional service. Not to mention their homemade rosemary crackers. Had a great experience, would recommend to anyone and will DEFINITELY be returning."

"We were looking for a restaurant within walking distance to The 5th Avenue for a play afterwords. We were pleasantly pleased with the service, delicious and unusual food selection and convenient location."

"Went here after the symphony. Its in the W hotel so I expected it to be decent. Well, it was outstanding!! We had the prix fixe menu. The onion soup was the best I have ever had. The main course was pork cheeks on risotto, equally awesome. I am not sure who the chef is but he knows what he is doing. This is one of my new favorites. Will definitely be back."

"Lunch was reasonably priced for the quality. Pulled BBQ pork sandwich was large and unique- best I've ever had - might want to request to go easy on the salt with the accompanying fries. The cod sandwich was also excellent and enjoyed the tempura veggies that went with it - all matched very well with their lemony cocktail: Seattle Swizzle."

"The food was delicious, presentation was beautiful and the service was great. The new decor is very upscale and fun. We had a wonderful dinner and really enjoyed everything. They even surprised us by giving us a little dessert bite at the end of our evening - this one little bite was amazing."

"The food was great, however, it was 20-30 minutes between courses and we were on a work lunch. All in all, from the time we sat down to the time we left, it took an hour and fourty five minutes; that's unacceptable for lunch."

"We originally thought this restaurant served only sushi (probably because of the signs outside?) so never came in, but we were mistaken. The food was totally delicious, innovative, and quite filling. The spicy eggplant entree was so very flavorful. The crispy egg with asparagus and mushroom appetizer was very interesting and quite delicious. It was a very healthy lunch, well, except for the berry cobbler, served hot! Yum. The entire wait-staff were very helpful and nice. We are definitely coming back."

"Nice place. Quite metro. A little over board with the fancy wear as the soup spoon din't really fit inside the soup bowl...but overall nice, trendy, good food."

"I went during Seattle Restaurant Week and was surprised at how few people were there. The menu was varied and interesting -- my guest loved the sushi dish she had and I loved the eggplant. The chef uses lots of interesting spices, so if bland foods are your thing, don't go. Our server could not have been more attentive, and yet she didn't hover. We had a very relaxing lunch. Not sure why this place hasn't been "found", but if I still worked in downtown Seattle, I'd make it a regular."

"The food was fantastic, everything was cooked just right and the presentation was lovely. The dishes looked delicate but were hearty. I believe Trace's goal is to create an oasis away from its busy corporate surroundings but the slowness from getting seated to ordering and then receiving your food only served to add stress to our party of 5."

"Nestled in a nice hotel, Trace definitely had a business dinner vibe. Could totally come here to meet clients up for a drink or two. Modern in regards to interior and it’s pretty spacious. We were one of the only diners there on a Monday night. The menu had sushi and other options but I found the sushi to be just ok. The saba didn’t seem super fresh, but still had the salty flavor that I love. The other dishes on the SRW menu were mediocre. I usually don’t judge harshly on Seattle Restaurant Week menus since most of the time I feel is not a good representation of what a restaurant does well. Service was SLOW and I mean really slow and the restaurant was empty! Just us and maybe two people at the bar. Nice waitress but won't be back."

"The sunday brunch selction was not very good. The had a choice between a salad and a smoothie on the pre-fix menu. The breakfast items did not seem like a wide or good selection. The only thing lunch-wise apealing was the burger (this was supposed to be brunch). The biscuits and gravy with poached eggs was very good. The kids menu had a better selection for breakfast items."

"We went to Trace for Dine Around Seattle and were very pleased with the food quality, the service, and the ambience. We arrived at 6:15 and the dining room was pretty empty, but it was rather lively by the time we left around 9:30. The kale soup had a great texture and taste; the crispy egg with asparagus and potatoes was like nothing I'd had before - poached egg with a tempura-like halo, delish!; and the Theo chocolate pot de creme was velvety, spicy, and a great way to cap the meal. The service was helpful and attentive without being overbearing. Neither of us was thrilled with our first wine selection, but I'm guessing other options were better. Definitely looking forward to going back."

"The food tastes as good as it looks. The presentation is beautiful and the flavors are just as brilliant and enhance the natural flavors. The service is a nice combination of skill and friendliness. Finally, the decor of this newish restaurant matches the fashion-forward theme of the host W Hotel -- it's striking and modern."

"The tagliatelle bolognese seemed out of place on the menu to me, but I will say that it was delicious. I would eat it again. The rhubarb cobbler was excellent. Sound can really carry in the restaurant. I was surprised at how loud it was, especially for lunch. I would probably go back. I tried it on the Dine Around Seattle promotion, and was happy with the menu options."

"The food and service at Trace are both excellent. However, the menu is quite limited. It offers only a few entrees, although the offerings themselves and presentation are notable. While the menu includes a vegetarian offering, the other entrees incorporate only a limited amount of vegetables in the preparation and do not include any side vegetables; and no vegetables are available as add-ons. Overall, if you do find something that appeals to you on the menu, the dining experience is well worth it."

"Everything about Trace was fine, as in "okay" not "she's fine!". If a friend or colleague wanted to go to Trace I wouldn't object to going back, but I would not suggest going there. There are too many great restaurants in Seattle (and places I have yet to try) to waste my time and dining dollars on a place that is just okay. I do have to mention that the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable - better than just okay."

"We went to Trace because we wanted to try a new restaurant, and because we saw the chef on a TV segment that morning. We live in downtown Seattle, so we eat out frequently, and enjoy the fabulous restaurants near our home. We thought we had things covered, but Trace set a new standard. We thrilled by the quality and imagination of the menu, and we really appreciated the recommendations of our waitress. We ventured far from our usual comfort zones on the basis of her recommendations, and we were not disappointed at all. What struck both of us as we made our way home was how excited we were by this meal. Trace was new and fresh, and we cannot wait to go back with out of town friends."

"I dined here solo on a weeknight, when I was in rush. The balsamic chicory, celery root and crispy egg salad is OUTSTANDING! A full-flavored hearty salad with a perfectly cooked soft, breaded egg on top, which--when you cut into it--oozes all over the salad and gives it a wonderful taste. The signature sushi roll was delicious with generous portions of Dungeness crab--the only criticism I had was that the rice seemed a tad bit old--speaking of hours, not days. The homemade passionfruit/apricot sorbet was also delicious. Dinner starts out with a selection of homemade crackers and bread, a miniature version of what you get at Cafe Juanita, which isn't surprising since the chef used to be sous chef there. Looking forward to returning!"
