Bar Crudo is a modern raw bar offering an elegant menu of cooked, chilled, or raw, fresh seafood paired with wine and an extensive selection of Belgian beer.
"I love Bar Crudo and come quite often. The food is incredible but a few times I have felt the host used some questionable tactics. Most recently I waited an additional 20 minutes after we had arrived for our 8pm reservation. Mean while multiple tables got sat before us. A few weeks ago the host asked if my boyfriend and I "would be done in an hour," since she had a reservation coming in. Rude. The rest of the staff is great but I've been troubled by the 2 hosts a few times now."

"Don't go if you don't like raw and or seafood in general. This is the best and the freshest for good raw and creative preparations. This time we were able to take advantage of the Happy Hour offerings. A really good deal and until 6:30 PM on Sunday. Nice !!"

"I've been to Bar Crudo before and had a fine experience, but this time, I felt as if my date and I were inconveniencing our server. When you're paying for a nice dining experience the service should reflect that as well. Our reservation was for 9 and we weren't sat till almost 9:40, which was fine. The hostess was sweet and apologetic but honestly we didn't mind one bit. Our server came over soon after and gave off the vibe of not wanting to deal with us, def was not friendly. We never got a smile or a response to wanting to move seats which shouldn't have been an issue as the whole restaurant emptied out shortly after we sat down. All other staff was friendly and helpful, the food was delish, just didn't understand the attitude."

"Bar Crudo still rocks out tasty seafood combinations. Love the happy hour special. And the service is great. Only minus is the really noisy space on the 2nd floor. the noise reverbs off the ceiling up there."

"we waited 25 minutes for a table and there was no indication we'd be seated anytime soon. 'sorry the table is not leaving'... nothing was offered to make the time pass. a comp drink would have changed the vibe. We were only seated after we pressed the hostess to be seated at a larger table that had conveniently opened up as 'the table for 6 just cancelled'. seems she could have checked to see if that larger table was available earlier.
the food and the wait staff were great."

"Best lobster beet salad ever!! Huge beer selection! We went on a Friday night and it was PACKED - luckily we had reservations and were seated immediately. The noise level is high which didn't bother us but it may some people. It actually helped keep our conversation private because the tables are very close (it is a small place). Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. Reasonable prices too."

"Everything is so fresh and I'm especially fond of the San Sebastian dish: oil poached tuna served chilled finished with a bit of lemon juice, served with roasted red peppers, capers, chilled potato slices and warm, thick grilled and somewhat charred bread. Sublime."

"We ordered the crudo sampler, the lobster beet salad, and the trout. It was all mouthwatering and delicious! We are planning on going for the happy hour today for a friends birthday. They have a lot of great beer to choose from as well."

"Hadn't been here in years, so brought my new BF for a celebratory dinner. (We did raise the average age a couple decades.) Bar Crudo was even better than I remembered. We slurped down some oysters, went crazy for the arctic char crude, noted the too-few-squid in the squid salad (which was otherwise good), and thoroughly enjoyed the butterfish and mussels from the hot dishes. Had never seen as lengthy a beer list. Mmmm. Deafening noise, but fun vibe and excellent service."

"We really enjoyed our dinner, a mix of raw, cold and hot cooked dishes. The ingredients were fresh, and the dishes beautifully presented. Our favorite of the evening was the raw Ono dish. The seafood chowder was rich and flavorful, though perhaps over-bacon'd and slightly more salty than we would have preferred. The chocolate truffles offered for desert were a tasty bite to finish."

"More seafood chowder PLEASE! The food is unbelievably good. The only thing that may be a negative for some is that the noise level is beyond loud. My friend and I were laughing because we had to shout to be heard. I love the place though and would go back again and again."

"Great seafood and service. Noise was an issue for us older neighborhood folks, but we now expect the volume up with the younger crowd. Enjoyable none the less."

"We were welcomed immediatly. The manager Jen was amazing and the whole staff was very friendly. We took forever and ordered one course at a time, so our adorable waiter eventually lost interest, but the rest of the staff covered our table pretty well. The food was great and the prices were reasonable. I look forward to going back."

"Great happy hour prices. We arrived early and were seated promptly. Food was delicious and well prepared. Enjoyed trying new types of fish I had never before eaten. Some was fresher than others. Only down side is the establishment is small and you are asked to wait in the way of folks walking through, and end up standing next to tables with diners trying to eat."

"Overall, a good experience. Staff was attentive from the time we walked in until the time we left; very pleasant, friendly. and helpful. Space is noisy and a bit cramped. Food was outstanding, very fresh and high quality seafood. The main courses were presented well -- they *looked* great, but ease of actually eating them was not considered. Shrimp were cooked and presented with the heads and shells on; looked like a magazine cover, but actually eating them required sticking your hands in the red Cajun sauce and pulling them apart. Messier than eating a whole lobster. The whole branzino looked and tasted great, but the staff should have offered to filet it at the table. That's SOP at most restaurants. But again, great place, will be back!"

"I've been to Bar Crudo many a times for their happy hour menu. How can you go wrong with $1 oysters, $6 glasses of wine and other discounted items from their menu. Such a great deal!
Bar Crudo has a very simple menu. The crudo fish sampler is a staple of mine. The butterfish and artic char are my two favorites. This time I wanted something more leafy and ordered the grilled octopus salad. This was a great choice! The octopus was nicely grilled with a slight smoky flavor and was perfectly tender. Mixed with the pea tendrils and some other ingredients in a nice dressing, it was a great plate to have. We also ordered the rainbow trout. Another delicious dish with the roasted sunchokes. All paired nicely with our bottle of Gruner Veltliner."

"Food was inventive and quite tasty. Family really enjoyed the shrimp and the lamb shank (surprisingly good in an all seafood rest.). I had the ahi tuna starter which is as close as "sea-to-sushi" as I've tasted.
Big issue -- service. The greeter and bartender were excellent but our server was not paying attention. This person was more interested in taking pictures at other tables rather than checking on orders or occasionally checking back with us. My great starter referenced above arrived at the same time as my cooked fish.
In summary - very good food, very mediocre service."

"I will excuse the fact that when we got there on time for our 8PM reservation, they made us wait 35 minutes on the grounds that they were slammed with walk-ins on the President's Day weekend Sunday. Still, it seems excessive. Host thanked us for "not screaming at me". However, to add insult to injury, I received an email mailed at 9:30PM that night AS WE WERE SITTING EATING OUR DINNER THERE that our reservation had been cancelled. No excuse for this and when I left a message for the manager the next day, it was never returned. Open Table credited us, but I'm still irked. Food is always excellent there, but they had run out of a great deal of it and we had a very limited selection. DO NOT GO ON ANY HOLIDAYS."

"I took my mother there and we found the food to be actually surprisingly good with imaginative mixtures of food! The wait staff brought out a heater to help keep my mother warm - so a plus for them. The decor is very basic, but the place is too popular and/or has terrible acoustics because on a Saturday night you better bring a megaphone or know sign language if you want to carry on a conversation"

"Unique menu of mostly either raw or shell fish, many in delicious broths or sauces. Great choice for tasty food, low in calories. If you love starch and carbos, would not be a good choice, though bread is served with the hot dishes. Really great, friendly, efficient service too. A winner!"

"This comment is directed at both OpenTable and Bar Crudo. My husband and I had a confirmed reservation for Sat. night at 7pm. We arrived at 7:00 pm, and waited in the doorway until we were greeted at 7:02pm. We were prompted told by the hostess that we were outside of the courtesy 15 minutes, so we were going to have to wait for a table. She informed us that our reservation was at 6:45pm. I told her that actually our reservation was for 7pm. She did not believe me until I pulled out my phone and showed her the email from OpenTable showing our confirmed time for 7:00pm. She then began to back pedal, and seemed flustered. I do not know if this was an OpenTable mistake or a BarCrudo mistake - but someone should be aware of this problem."

"My husband and I live near enough Bar Crudo to walk there but hadn't tried it until last Saturday night. First of all, they take reservations which is unusual for an intimate restaurant. The place is obviously very popular with a true San Francisco mix of customers (i.e., not ALL hipsters). The service was friendly, efficient and all around excellent. The food was amazing. Everything we ordered (which was a lot) was delicious and interesting...the type of food the conversation centers around. All in all we can't wait to go back and to introduce people to this gem."

"The food was outstanding. I definitely plan on eating there again. Here are my issues though: I waited 30 minutes even though I had a reservation. That isn't acceptable if you have made a reservation. It's a small restaurant and they have many people waiting for their tables. It is very uncomfortable to wait - you're knocking into people and continuing to say excuse me. Secondly, they sat us on the second floor/top level. It wasn't as noisey which was good. However, it was a small space upstairs. They sat us right by the table with bread/water (Waiter table as I would call it). I wish we had a table that was further back. In the end, the restaurant is crowded and can be uncomfortable, but they make it up with their incredible food."
