With its rustic décor, lush flower arrangements and romantic ambiance, dinners are easily transported to the warmth of the French country side the moment they walk through the door.
In late Spring, Summer, and early Fall, one can dine outside at the sidewalk café. In true French style, the terrace is lined with flowers echoing the romance of La Mangeoire’s interior.
La Mangeoire offers 3 uniquely decorated dining rooms for private gatherings. Two of these rooms provide intimate settings for business meetings or small social gatherings. For larger celebrations, such as bridal or baby showers, prenuptial dinners, engagement, wedding and anniversary parties, the restaurant can accommodate up to 60 guests
"This is a really basic French place. It's cute, and the food is good, but it's way too expensive for what it is. We spent over $100 for two entrees, a side of haricot verts, and one dessert. No wine. For a great meal, I'm happy to pay that, but this was really basic bistro food.
On the other hand, this is a great place to bring your older parents. My dad can definitely handle something a bit more exciting, but it was nice for a weeknight. Quiet, simple food. Most of the patrons looked like they were 50-80 yrs old."

"I took my mother this past weekend for a nice Mother's Day dinner and she loved it minus the bread, which was pretty standard. My sister and I picked this place because we thought it would interesting to try a family style french restaurant. The food was delicious, the cauliflower gratin was so good my b/f thought it was mac n cheese! The waiter was courteous but had a slightly heavy accent. We loved the countryside decor, it felt very homey especially with the hearty food. The only minor issue was a large group came in shortly after we ordered dinner and the shape of the restaurant amplified the noise they were making. Would definitely recommend people give it a try!"

"I took my mother to this restaurant for Mother's Day. Not only was the usual brunch prix fix unavailable, the restaurant doubled the price of the menu, gave very limited offerings and didn't include mimosas or champagne with the menu. Our waiter didn't even ask if we wanted anything to drink other than water. I recognize restaurants want to make money on holidays, but doubling the price for a brunch menu while excluding a brunch staple is ridiculous. On top of which, the food was mediocre at best - the eggs were undercooked and the shrimp were overcooked. There are many other French brunch places in New York that still give you a great presentation, friendly service and meals that don't leave you feeling like you've been ripped off."

"I live across the street...but never went in. After my first visit last week, I went again the next night. WOW! There were 7 of us...and we wanted a quiet-ish place. The food was outrageously good! I'm a big onion soup fan and order it whenever it's available. This was THE BEST onion soup I've ever had. No plain swiss for this chef. I don't know what cheese they used, but the flavors were intense and the melt wasn't soft and gooey, but it had some chew while still making just the perfect melty strings. The roasted beet salad with hazelnut oil and hazelnuts...ridiculously flavorful. 7 people...and every one of them loved their meals. Oh....and the french fries? Do die for. The service was friendly but respectful. Expensive...but worth it."

"La Mangeoire is the little neighborhood French bistro you wish you had in YOUR neighborhood. Consistently good food in a charming setting, presided over by an owner who is genial but not overbearing. Service is good, food is beautifully prepared--try the frisée saad to start, where a duck egg is expertly poached then breaded and quickly deep-fried, for a crunchy yet runny addition to its dressing. Mussels are, of course, thir speciality and always available on the menu, although currently the preparation is with thyme, cream and fennel rather than the traditional tomato-based sauce. Still delicious. Another great thing is that dishes come in two sizes, so those with smaller appetites can enjoy dinner without feeling overstuffed."

"Had heard about it on radio from maven Schwartz and jotted down address. Went after 192 days. Wasn't disappointed, my food was delicious from fresh beet salad to pâté(to die for) and baked red snapper. Desert was homemade salty caramel ice cream. Truly fresh and homemade an perfect way to end evening. The service was Attentive but not annoying. Can't wait to go back!"

"Everything was fantastic. The host was charming...I had not picked up my cell phone message asking me to re-confirm, but he had held my table. The menu is basically French country cooking at it's best. You can order a small or a large version of the entrees, either was copious, no tapas size portions. I will definitely go back. I wish it were in my neighborhood."

"La Mangeoire never disappoints. An attentive staff, a friendly greeting, delicious, authentic French food transports us from our wonderful neighborhood to France each time we visit this marvelous restaurant. Don't forget the profiteroles for a super dessert. Magnifique chaque fois!!!!"

"Wonderful food, classically prepared...like stepping into France. Today, our table had mussels, quiche, and a lamb stew - three totally different meals, yet all just perfect, just like always at this restaurant!"

"Our party of three thoroughly enjoyed our evening at La Mangeoire. Mains were Red Snapper, Lamb Stew and Steak all prepared and flavored very well. Nice wine list. Meal was so filling that there was no room to sample the interesting dessert list. Note that this restaurant is not inexpensive - but know that this is a restaurant that we will keep on our "return" list."

"We ordered scallops with lobster sauce: the dish was excellent, the best scallops I've ever had. Staff was attentive without being intrusive. My friend and I now consider it to be our favorite restaurant."

"Overall the food was excellent. For starters we had the quiche and the special carrot soup. Since there were 3 of us two shared the quiche. All excellent. For the main we had their special roasted chicken for 3 with Bibb lettuce and french fries. The lettuce and the fires were excellent but I felt the chicken was a little dry even though the gave us a carafe of jus. It was tasty but I expected it to be moist. I skipped dessert while my companions had the lemon tarte and pot au creme. They enjoyed the desserts but I tasted them and felt they were just ok. Overall I still recommend this restaurant. One point to mention prices on the al a carte menu have gone up."

"La Mangeoire used to be be the go to place for lunch when I worked at 53 and Park. I have also been there for brunch but not in a while. I was disappointed to see the enormous increase in prices and the limited selections on the lunch menu. The service was slow and we had to keep repeating requests for butter and water. The main waiter seemed annoyed when my friend did not like his wine suggestion. The food was okay, but there are other French bistros around. Tant Pis. We won't be going there again."

"Cheerful place with great French food. The pate special was delicious as was the beet and endive salad with toasted hazelnust. The roast chicken was absolutely scrumptious. Service was average. Waitress was a bit distracted. Very comfortable and satisfying experience."

"La Mangeoire remains an excellent place. It hits the right notes with creative, well prepared and delicious food, a fine wine list, and great service. A reservation is a good idea, since every time I am there, it is full. The atmosphere is one of fine dining, but without pretense. All in all this is one my favorite places to take guests to brunch or dinner."

"We have eaten here about 10 or 15 times in the past few years: it is one of our favorites in our neighborhood of Turtle Bay. This time we took an early evening reservation when the restaurant was not very busy. Our problem is one of lack of concern from the supervisor and our waitress. The waitress got one of our orders wrong. This completely threw off the timing of the main courses: my wife got her entree 20 minutes after my course was delivered. Despite the fact that the supervisor was effusively greeting and visiting nearby tables, we were ignored. Then, instead of expressing some concern or comping us for something as a way of apology, we found an overcharge for a brandy that we did not have on the bill! This did not make me happy."

"The roasted chicken (for 2-3) more than lived up to its billing. A large bird, tasty and juicy, accompanied by spinach instead of the usual fries, and a salad, made for a comfortable, home-style dinner."

"I went to La Mangeoire the day after valentines day since it was a friday and we could not go out in the middle of a work week. I had the casseolet which was amazing. The wine that the server recommended was great. My wife was just gave nods and ate her whole plate (which is doesn't happen often). They have good food, good wine, and the service is very polite."
