"what a treat it was to eat capsouto freres! the food was really delicious - perfectly executed classic french fare. the place is extremely reasonably priced with many options on the menu, all sounded delicious, and the wine list had very good well priced options.

we will definitely be coming back again and again to this gem of a restaurant where the staff makes you feel like you have been dining there for years and the food and wine is excellent in quality, taste and value."

"We went in on a Saturday night with our two kids after seeing a show. The host could not have been more friendly to our children, even insisting that we sit at the bar while waiting for the table. Food was very good and the service terrific."

"Anything, but extraordinary. Perhaps the regular chef is off on Sundays. My Sweet Breads were very heavy handed. The sauce was way to intense yet rather tasteless. Basically a very poor attempt. The special Clementine Souffle saved the night. It was extraordinary and I really appreciate that.
In general I wouldn't recommend Capsouto Freres and it will be a long time before I go back. There are too many good restaurants in NYC. They need to raise the bar. They are running on the adrenalin of the past."

"This restaurant has a beautiful interior. It is calm and quiet. The service was excellent, and all three of us dining together thought the food was outstanding in flavor and presentation. The cost of a prix-fixe meal was reasonable, and a good selection was offered in that category. The wine list was extensive and included some reasonably priced choices."

"This was the second time I have been to Capsouto Freres. Their souffles are still the best. However, the food and service left something to be desired this time - still very good but not quite what I expected based on my prior experience two years ago. Perhaps because it was Valentine's day service was slow but the restaurant should have been prepared and had more employees on duty. The Filet of Sole was quite good; salads and side dishes were decent also but not memorable."

"This is a local favorite and we are flabbergasted why it is not more popular. Lots of room, quiet, fantastic atmosphere and with great personalized service. A Tribeca pioneer and standout in our view. Especially BYO night in Tuesdays. Oysters and the souffle are outstanding."

"CAPSOUTO FRERES NEVER FAILS TO PLEASE AND PROVIDE US WITH A SATISFYING DINING EXPERIENCE. OUR REQUEST FOR A ROUND TABLE FOR OUR PARTY OF 6 WAS ACCOMMODATED. DRINK ORDERS WERE PROMPLTY FILLED (AND REFILLED) AND THE PACE OF OUR MEAL WAS QUITE LEISURELY WHICH ENABLED ALL OF US TO ENJOY NOT ONLY THE FOOD BUT EACH OTHER AS WELL. ONE OF THE OWNERS MADE A POINT OF STOPPING BY OUR TABLE TWO TIMES TO CHECK THAT ALL WAS GOING WELL. THE MENU OFFERS MANY CHOICES AT MANY DIFFERENT PRICE POINTS. "Capsouto Freres is a rare find, a restaurant that offers Old World charm with New York savvy. Example: we came for the Restaurant Week menu and were advised that for a $5 supplemental charge, we could have their famous souffle for dessert. It was a very good suggestion, as they are known for their souffles and ours were excellent. An arugala salad to start was as copious as any I've ever had, not to mention crisp, clean and very subtly bathed in a vinaigrette dressing. Beef and fish dishes were cooked perfectly, as requested, and the service was attentive, not overbearing. We hope that this early Tribeca pioneer will continue to flourish and serve an ever-widening appreciative audience."

"I was a bit harried when I walked in the door having arrived late to meet friends for a 7 PM reservation. But the maître d’ instantly made me feel welcome and relaxed. "Our recent lunch at Capsouto Freres was delightful. The herb grilled salmon in beurre blanc was perfectly seasoned and incredibly good. A mushroom soup starter was also perfect in taste and portion size. My friend's wild mushroom cheese souffle offered suberbly layered flavors that won me to savory souffles. It took no encouragement at all for me to "help" finish her chocolate souffle dessert that was beautifully pouffy and scruptious, particularly with the warm chocolate sauce and fresh whipped cream that our server poured into its center at the table. The house cabernet was also a pleasant, smooth surprise that quite eclipses any other restaurant's house wine."

"We went on Restaurant Week, always a busy week for most restaurants. Given that, we thought that the service was good (maybe too good...a bit too fast for our liking), and the food was acceptable (more food than we normally would expect on restaurant week, but nothing that knocked our socks off). The wine list is very good, if you appreciate some great French wines. Overall, the food was not the best French food we have had, but it was acceptable. Finally, we were surprised on the crowd....definitely a more mature crowd than other places we go to."

"I love the atmosphere of this place - beautiful design, superior sound-proofing so conversations can be had without yelling at each other, tables spread out. We had a business meeting and we were accommodated even though some in the part were very late. The siuffles were wonderful. We all had savory ones for lunch and sweet ones for dessert. Most of the table had the mushroom and cheese souffle but those that had others loved theirs too. The consensus was that the raspberry souffle was perfect though the praline and chocolate ones were good too. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable. It's definitely a winner!"

"We wend for Sunday brunch. Menu is excellent with a lot of choices beyond the prix-fixe section. We had the bacon and cheese souffle ($14) which was wonderful -- great texture and flavor. My partner began with the tossed salad ($5) while I had the warm beet salad ($10). Both were large and beautifully prepared. We ended up with dessert -- profiterolles($8.50) for my partner and a light and tasty praline souffle served with hazelnut creme anglaise ($10.50) for me. Attentive service. Highly recommended!"

"The entire place feels/looks like it's covered in a gray veil. Large plants grow up the windows, their large leaves plastered to the lace curtains. Looked like something out of a horror movie. Place needs a major facelift, new lighting, new chairs -- the most uncomfortable we've ever sat in. Food was mediocre; stale bread, fish was fresh, but both entrees were served with over-salted accompaniments."

"Don't know why I was expecting a bistro, but it's definitely a step or two above bistro. Food was good, but not knock you socks off delicious. A nice place to keep in mind, especially if you happen to be in that part of the city. White wine was tasty, but could have been chilled more. After it was iced down for a while, its crispness greatly improved."

"This was my second visit here and my expectations were high. I came for brunch and was a bit disappointed with the atmosphere as it felt almost too quiet and slightly dim compared to last time when I came for dinner.I remember it being more vibrant and more romantic at night. I was not disappointed with the food though and everything that was brought to the table was absolutely magnificent.
From the asparagus with the truffle sauce to the fig souffle with hazelnut sauce,each mouthful seemed like a dream.I was with a party of five but there would be moments of silence just being knocked out by the amazing tastes of the beautifully prepared food. This place takes food to a totally different level. A truly memorable experience."

"Warm and comfortable dining room with an attentive staff. Efficient bar service. Appetizers were very tasty, as were the entrees. Large portion sizes for both courses. All in all a very nice dining experience. Two areas for improvement for the restaurant -- 1) we felt a little rushed to order, and even more rushed to leave as we were the last table left in the restaurant for the evening, and 2) we ordered our steaks medium and they were served medium-well (they were still delicious!)."

"Capsouto's delivers consistent quality. If you know a person who appreciates great food and great service - take that person here for his or her birthday, or for any special occasion.
My parents can't hear too well, which is a problem in most restaurants. Here, the high ceilings allows a comfortable speaking level even when the restaurant is full."

"We had a fabulous dinner here. We arrived quite a bit before they were ready to serve dinner, and one of the owners took the time to serve us wine and appetizers at the lovely bar while we waited. Our dinners were absolutely delicious--beef wellington, escargots, onion soup, beet salad--and the service was perfect. We finished our dinner with lovely souffles--chocolate and eggnog. We are already looking forward to returning and enjoying another special dinner!"

"We've been to CF many times over the years and love the ambience and that the noise level doesn't overwhelm the ability to converse. BUT, the last few times we've been disappointed with the food. Whoever prepares it is phoning it in. Two of us had the roast duck the other night. One serving was very undercooked and had to be sent back. The other was okay but boring and tasteless. No thought went into the seasoning. Too much food on the plate with indistinguisable tastes. We also thought the content of wine list was inaccessible ( most of us are simply not familiar enough with wines from Israel to be comfortable without more guidance) and not enough bottles were available in the $40 to $50 range. Chile? Spain? Etc.?"

"We have eaten there before although not for awhile. The food was very good and the service also. If I was to quibble it would be that a small complimentary dish was served to us both before and after the meal. Nothing was said to us about what the dishes contained or even "compliments of the chef". They were just plopped down without a word. I thought it odd considering the overall service."
