"Arrived early and had great drinks at the bar upstairs. The bartender was excellent.
It was my second time here and the dinner was not as good as the first. We ordered mussels and frites as an appetizer and only mussels arrived. About 10 minutes later I asked about the frites and then they did come, but by that point the mussels were mainly gone. My date's coq-au-vin was excellent. My beef beourginon (sp?) was only OK and did not appear to have any carrots."

"I had the steak night special. I would advise diners to skip that one, actually. The steak was merely average, and steak night at City Cafe just down the road is both better and cheaper. Diners at Marie Louise should go for the actual French stuff, like the cassoulet, the salad nicoise and the duck salad. Those are good. Their desserts are also very good, and our server impressed us by knowing the names and descriptions of all the desserts on the dessert tray.
The restaurant is, oddly enough, usually not very crowded on weeknights. People don't know what they're missing. This is a little on the pricier side, so not the best deal in the neighborhood, but very good food if you get the right things."

"Marie Louise Bistro has been a favorite place to dine because of its pleasant atmosphere and good food for a long time. On our last visit (April 2013) we were pleasantly surprised by its more diverse menu with expanded vegetarian options which would be attractive to vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike.
Reasonable prices, a pleasant atmosphere and the expanded menu make it an attractive dining destination on Charles Street.
Marie Louise Bistro is also a great place for dessert and coffee later in the evening. Their dessert offerings are dangerously irresistible and the coffee is excellent."

"Had brunch with a party of 20+ and the resturant was not prepared for us at all. They were very unorganized, didnt have enough wait staff, and the kitchen was very slow. We had a prix menu.. so not quite sure what the problem was. There was no manager in sight to make sure things went smoothly.. kind of disappointed in service but the food was delish!

"We were looking for a light dinner before atending a concert at the Meyerhoff. Our "usual" place had no reservations available, so using the Open Table list of alternatives in the area, I selected Marie Louise Bistro. On street parking was readily available. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we were seated immediately in a more intimate portion of the restaurant, which was very nice. We concentrated on the appetizers on the menu. The steamed clams in garlic was excellent and the broth it was served in was a great accompaniement to the bread served with it. Their French onion soup was the best I've had in a long time. My wife also enjoyed her seared tuna. Their desserts are excellent. We will return soon to try more of their Menu."

"The service was not very good. One person waited over 20 minutes for their drink. They brought out the wrong appetizer salad and it took several minutes to correct. They never brought one person their dessert. My water glass was empty throughout almost the entire meal.

"While our waiter was prompt and attentive, the delivery of the main course was unusually delayed. When it arrived, the food was delicious and attractively served. The wait, however, for the simple bistro fare we'd ordered, was lengthy given the fact that the room had begun to clear by that time and the rush was obviously over. This issue was disappointing, but would not keep us from coming back to a very enjoyable venue."

"I've tried to like Marie Louise Bistro but every time it has rubbed me the wrong way. This time it was the hostess, who was rather prickly and unfriendly. And then our server who got our orders wrong and left us with empty water glasses for long stretches of time and seemed to forget about us. Everyone who works there seems, frankly, put out to have to be there at all let alone providing a positive experience for their guests. And then the food was - pretty much - meh. It's such a pretty spot in the front part of the restaurant --- too bad they are all in such a bad mood all the time!"

"I had dinner on a very quiet Sunday evening with only a few tables of dinners present. The French Onion soup was good. Unfortunately, the chicken with artichokes and red pepper was bad. The restaurant used marinated artichokes which gave the dish an overwhelming salad-vinegar taste. I will not return."

"After a week working a conference, we'd already enjoyed the usual Baltmore staples. I was in the mood for French; my co-worker wanted steak. We found ML in the Mount Vernon section. An apparently popular patisserie in the front of the house made the short wait for a table a bit awkward. The Saturday evening clientele were casual, happy and relaxed; the exposed brick walls and tin ceilings added to a relatively high noise level. Food was very good: piping hot onion soup with real gruyere was just what I wanted; the zucchini/vegetables over cous cous was good, also served piping hot, but lacked seasoning. The EXCELLENT house steak came with steamed veggies and great french fries very reasonably priced. Attentive and efficient service, too."

"Great place. My wife and I went there last week and had a wonderful time. The wait staff was exelent; very atentave and willing to actually engage in conversations. They knew their wines and how to pair well. The food was great, I had the lamb (with homemade mint jelly that was to die for) and my wife hand the hanger steak. Dessert was out standing. The kitchen makes each dessert in house. To top it all off, they know not only what a dry cappuccino is but also how to craft one. We will be making this one of our regular places. Keep in mind the bottom dinning room can get quite loud when it fills up."

"Usually I love Marie Louise Bistro, but this visit was disappointing. The service was very slow and my steak came out overcooked. When the server brought me another steak that was cooked correctly, the steak had no seasoning! The server also described the oysters as medium salt, but when I ate them they were obviously sweet oysters. I'll stick to Marie Louise's delicious brunch from here on out."

"I would love to rate the food & experience at Marie Louise as delicious and satisfying, but since our food never came, I cannot. Our reservations were for 6:15, plenty of time for our 8pm show. We were on time and seated. We started with a salad & soup. This was brought out fairly promptly. Then we waited. Our water glasses were filled 3 times with no word from our server or food in sight. At 7:30 we flagged our server for the check. The check was for the entire meal. We paid for what we had eaten. Then an apology came and she would press the kitchen for our food. Too late and inexcusable for us - we had waited over an hour and no one had even spoken to us. With so many dining choices in the area there is no reason to back."

"I had a 7:00 reservation on Sat.,1/26, for a party of 2. Although there were empty tables, the owner suggested that we wait in the bar. At 7:40 we were seated at a table in one of the busiest areas. The table was in between two service aisles. I had specifically requested a table in a less busy area. Our waitress moved the table around the corner, and it was better. We ordered right away. Our soup was brought soon, but by 8:40 there still was no entree. When we complained to the waitress, she said that it was not her fault. We left. I have supported this restaurant since it first opened in Mt. Vernon. I will never go there again. It was awful."

"The steak au poivre was delicious. Some of the most tender steak that we've ever had, and very nice seasoning. Unfortunately I'd ordered the pork medium well, and it came out red (not just pink) in the middle and had to be sent back. The server was apologetic, but of course it throws the whole meal off when that happens, since one of us was sitting there with food and the other had nothing but some bread to nibble on. The pork was then slightly overcooked when it came back, although still tasty. Desserts were delicious, with the raspberry tart and chocolate/hazelnut mousse both being pretty much perfect. Also had a nice glass of syrah/grenache with dinner, although I'm not much of a connoisseur."

"I have been to Marie Louise many times before and had great food and great service. Saturday evening was quite a disappointment. We arrived at 6:15 for our reservation. It was moderately crowded. We waited for a long time before evening being greeted and even longer to receive our dinner, to the point where had to ask the waitress for our food or we would be late to our 8 p.m. show. The server was not attentive and never really came by our table. We had to run to our show because we were there too long. I understand it was restaurant week but it was not that busy when we arrived."

"We went there for a Saturday brunch. It was not a very French menu, for a French place, but the menu "looked" good. We waited 30 min for cocktails (which were terrible and mixed completely wrong!)and even longer for food. Our waiter could have cared less that we were even there. My burger was mediocre, but my husband's french toast was burnt. Our friend's steak (and eggs) was burnt and was inedible. There was also a horrible wet dog smell that came around for about 15 minutes (no idea what that was about). The ambiance is nice however, if only they could clean up their menu and their staff! Save your money and your palate and eat elsewhere!"
