Avalon Restaurant BYOB, located at 312 South High Street in historical West Chester, Pennsylvania is best known for its romantic ambiance and rustic Italian menu. We are a BYOB restaurant decorated with European elements amidst soothing blue back lighting and an inviting stone fireplace. Our accommodations go beyond the main dining area. Avalon also provides a second floor dining room open most weekends for a more quiet and romantic experience and available during the week for private parties of up to 35 guests. "Returned to Avalon with a West Chesterian :-) and she couldn't believe she hadn't been before. She loved it (I always do) and plans to bring back her friends soon. The cheese plate is amazing. Followed that with a beautiful beet salad and shared another appetizer. More than enough food. The dessert was awesome, donut bread pudding, and a chocolate lava cake. Byob helps keep it affordable."

"a little overpriced. My husband and I had dinner there recently and the food was good but not worth the hefty price we paid per plate. Also, it was very loud and we were squished at a tiny table virtually in the middle of the room. I would recommend but I would say the price is a bit of a deterrant as compared to other restaurants we might visit."

"Had a great time. Surprised it took us so long to come here since we live in town and love good food. We tried the four-course menu special and I'm glad we did. Originally I thought the portions would be too small for my boyfriend however we both left stuffed. Another thing I will mention is that we were able to enjoy our food without being rushed! I take my time when eating and I hate when I'm feeling rushed onto the next course. Overall the food was amazing, seasoned perfectly and I can't wait to come back with friends!"

"Although we have been to Avalon numerous times we especially enjoy their outside dining space as well as their great food. Even though you are in downtown West Chester, the outdoor dining area seems like you are in a tranquil garden with water fountains, etc. Their Four Course European Giro Del Menue is wonderful for people who enjoy trying different dishes (small plates) or sharing with each other. The menu changes often enough to continually make it interesting to try new items. The selections are unique when compared with some other local Italian restaurants as well. We will be back again."

"We started our meal at Avalon with a cheese board selection which was outstanding. We did the four course tour and although the menu mentions these are smaller portions, we found them more than generous . Each course seemed to be better than the previous. Our food came out piping hot, bursting with fresh flavors and the perfect pace between courses. Since this is a BYO, it is always important to me not to be rushed through our meal and we weren't. The tour includes desert .. a must have. I had the mascarpone crepe which was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Our server was knowledgeable and professional. The tables are fairly close to each other which I think gives it that "downtown bistro feel". Overall an excellent experience!"

"We have been going to Avalon for years. It just keeps getting better and better! We ate outside in their back yard patio. Even with 90 degree heat the paddle fans kept it very comfortable. There were many tables but the noise level was very low. They stagger and arrange the tables so you are not on top of each other.
The service was wonderful, polite and knowledgeable; yet non hovering. We had their tour of the menu prefixed special for the night. Smaller plates of several items. One was better than the other and all were outstanding. The presentation was lovely.Their fresh roasted beet salad with goat cheese was wonderful. Perfect amount of food! Great contrasts, complex but so satisfying.
This is a 5 star winner."

"My companion has food allergies and the wait staff and manager were very attentive to that. Very on the ball. Our waitress was great; very knowledgable on the menu items and able to make recommendations. Friendly and attentive. The manager checked in with us a couple times to make sure everything was to our liking.
The only issue we had was the noise level. During the first part of our dinner, conversation was difficult because it was so noisy. There was a table of 6 or 8 that was being loud which seemed to cause everyone else in the restaurant have to speak loudly too. It's an intimate place (small) and sound really carries in there.
Despite that we had a great time, the food was incredible and we will definintely go back."

"Had another delicious meal at Avalon, as we attempt to eat our way through the new items on the spring menu, this time the strozzapretti (veal, crab and pasta), last time the fazzoletti (pork cheeks and mushrooms.) Having said that, my wife started with her favorite beet salad with goat cheese and it was as good as ever. The Giro del Menue continues to be a great value and service manages to stay at a high level, even though some new people have been added to the staff recently. Avalon doesn't miss a beat - or a beet!!"

"We had been to Avalon for New Years Eve, and the food was very good, but we remember the service being very slow. It was New Years Eve, so we chalked it up to it being a holiday, and that the restaurant was pretty full. We went back again for Mother's Day, and the restaurant was pretty full again. The food was good: the appetizers were delicious, my husband's entree was delicious, and the desserts were also delicious. The service was slow again, so we waited forty minutes between appetizers and entrees. It seems that on holidays, more staff is needed and the restaurant should address that. I am not sure if we'll give it another try."

"Avalon is our favorite restaurant and we are never disappointed. John manages to keep the menu fresh and interesting with new dishes and his crew of servers combines professionalism with friendliness, which is a tough combination to beat. This time we shared the charcuterie with a couple of Italian cheeses, salami and nice accoutrements, including tasty "candied" figs. My wife had the goat cheese ravioli while I had the fazzoletti with pork cheeks. Wonderful. We finished with a tasty cinnamon bread pudding topped with ice cream. Lovely evening."

"I've had the ciopinno before at Avalon and usually get it. It wasn't on the menu this trip so I asked our server about it. He said no worries, it's used at the base for one of the pasta dishes for the spring menu. It was delicious, just like I remember. Avalon will continue to be a favorite for us."

"Food was good. Wait staff was aware of and did a great job of taking care of individual diner needs and checking with the kitchen if certain dishes could be modified. We had a very good experience. All dishes came to the table hot and one of our guests (who is a slow eater) noted that none of the dishes were taken away until she had finished, which she has noted is becoming less common in restaurants these days. Over all a very good experience."

"What a great find in downtown West Chester. The food was impressive and reminded me of northern italy. The service although very attentive and polite, was a bit slow. Took our server quite some time to take our order and even longer to bring us the bill. Perhaps because it was rather busy this particular evening. No matter, we will definitely return."

"Menu selections always interesting enough to try different things on repeat visits. Tour of the menu best way to go as you get more variety. Really good cheese selections. Mussels always great. Soup very good this time too. Gnocchi dish surprisingly good. Does fish very well. A favorite BYO place for us. Can't wait to sit outside again."

"The whole experience was very disappointing. The hostess made us wait 15 minutes for a table which is fine but she never told us politely that we would have to wait. She ignored us and we stood there. Also the food was mediocre at best. We won't be going back."

"Although they were great with my grandson it was not a place to bring kids. It was very clean and the wait staff was good. Got the 40.00 special and when we went to ordered desert wanted the apple crisp and was told it was five dollars more! Also we wanted our desert to go, so we only had two choices. Very disappointed with that. Parking was also a challenge , we had to be dropped off while my daughter looked for parking. As did everyone that came in! Also we had tried to get in the night before and they where booked only to find out in fact they where çlosed on a night they where schudeled to be open. Over all I was a little disappointed for 110.00 I would have expected a wow feeling and did not.

"Had a wonderful 3-course Easter brunch for our family of 6. There were many items from which to choose; several of us found the frittatas especially good, but you could have picked almost anything and I'm sure you would have enjoyed it. Avalon also had all the fixin's needed for great Bloody Marys with BYOB vodka. Great service to boot! Very nice experience, as always."

"Once again, we had a great meal at our favorite restaurant. There were 3 of us late on a Saturday evening and we ate at the chef's table right up near the kitchen area. Neat location! Everything was great, and, even though it was a busy night, our servers never missed a beat. If you're an olive lover, try the chili-cured olives as an appetizer or addition to an entree. Top notch. Avalon always delivers!"

"Avalon is a great place for dinner in WC. As long as I have lived in WC and dined out so often, I can't believe this was the first time there. The food was great, with a very nice and creative menu. The portions are a perfect size. The chef's menu is a god deal although we did not try it. I would definitely try it the next time. Definite place for foodies! The decor and ambiance were great, very classy yet low key. it was little noisy at times, but there was a large party near us, and they were having a great time. Who can blame them or the restaurant? The two fireplaces are very nice, although the one we were sitting next to was not in operation. The staff was excellent!! Very attentive, without being intrusive. I will be back for sure!"

"This was a phenomenal find! We found it searching for a nice BYOB and fell into a foodies paradise! We enjoyed the 4 course menu tour and each dish was beyond expectations. There's nothing bad to say about the experience. They even had gluten free options for the pasta course and the manager checked on me to make sure the food allergies had been addressed throughout the meal. A definite 5 stars and we look forward to returning!"

"As always, Avalon is a fabulous restaurant to visit. The food is terrific both presentation and taste. Prices are respectible and size is just right - not so much that you can't eat it all, or so little that you are still hungry. Pace is nice too - not rushed, but no long pauses between the courses.
