Since 1735, this location in Macungie has been a local landmark, serving the finest in tavern food & libations to several generations of regular patrons & visiting guests.
Opened as an inn & hotel in 1735, operating through the late 1800s as the East Macungie Hotel & later as The Load of Mischief, the property has long been in the business of serving customers with their own unique local style – a blend of true hospitality & fine food.

"Two years in a row now, and both times the food selections and quality were top notch. Service is excellent; fast and friendly. Only disappointment was that we were seated at top floor this time. It's nice, but the atmosphere doesn't compare to the other levels. All i all, I recommend. It is even a pretty restauarant from the outside, ample parking; no congestion."

"I took my mother out to dinner at the Buckeye tavern for Mother's Day last year and we had a fantastic time sitting upstairs on the outdoor patio as it was beautiful out. It was so good in fact, that I decided to give it a try for dinner during the week and could not have been happier with my choice. As the Mothers Day dinner was so good last year, I decided to give it another go this year, but we decided to sit inside on the downstairs level as it was a bit windy outside. The food was awesome and the dishes that were presented as the Mothers Day specials were superbly cooked and presented beautifully.
Will most likely continue to come here for years to come, for special occasions as well as everyday dining."

"The chicken wings were the best I've had in a long time. However, dinner was just average. The salad consisted of mostly iceberg lettuce and one grape tomato and the waitress did not bring any bread until asked. I think if we would have chose items from the sandwich menu we would have been better off. The platters weren't that great. My daughter had the vegetable stir fry, I had the salmon and my husband had the Black Diamond dish. We were seated immediately even though we showed up early which was a plus, but we were seated right next to the bar area and it was extremely loud."

"The restaurant was extremely crowded, however our last minute reservation was accepted for a group of seven. We sat upstairs which I personally believe is the best spot in the restaurant. Food selection was simple with some twists but by no means less than tasteful. I believe every taste can be met. Had some problems with the heat being excessive due to a fireplace being on but one request to turn it off was met promptly. Our waiter had a nice personality but his memory for certain request was a bit lacking. Perhaps we will chalk it up to a bad day. The Tavern will definitely be visited again and also will be recommended to all our friends,."

"As always, we had a great evening at Buckeye Tavern. I was unusually busy but they accommodated everyone. Food was great, service is always friendly and professional. "I was extremely disappointed. The restaurant itself had a quaint, country tavern feel to it. We were the first seating for the Easter buffet and the food was luke warm. The temperature in the restaurant was chilly, and they had the front doors open, on a day that was only 40 degrees. There was not much of a selection, and a very small service line, expected to service a restaurant full of people. I walked away feeling like I had just wasted a lot of money."

"This was our first time at Buckeye and we will surely be back. First off I made the reservation on line and when I finished it made it for 2 and not 5. I could not figure out how to fix it on line and so I called. All was taken care of and when we got there you were ready for us. We were celebrating our son's 36 birthday and to our surprise they came out with a delicious birthday surprise at the end of our meal.. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. Thank you all so much for making the evening so special. See you again soon. Have to bring our 10 yr. old granddaughter and check out "KID FRIENDLY"."

"The first time we dined at this restaurant we found the air filters made it quite pleasant to be in a cigar smokers bar/lounge/restaurant. As non-smokers we were not put off at all. The food was phenomenal as was the wait staff. This time (our 2nd) we brought another couple along with us. It seemed as though the air filters weren't working as well. If you can tolerate cigar and cigarette (very little) smoke there will be no problem. The food was not as good as the first time. Maybe just an "off" night. The staff was exceptional though. All in all, we really do like this place and will go again."

"We were seated on the 2nd floor at the top of the steps along the railing. There was alot of traffic past our table all night and the table shook repeatedly. One of the wait staff spilled something on the steps and it took about 10 minutes for it to be cleaned up, while the staff directed customers around it. The food was absolutely fantastic as far as flavor and quantity. We will be back when the weather is warmer as we are looking forward to dining outside. Thank You for an enjoyable evening.

"My wife and I love the Buckeye. The food is always wonderful and the menu has a variety that includes soups, salads, sanwiches and full entrees. We are more that occasional visitors so we have sample many of the dishes and they all always great. This occasion was Valentine's day with a special menu in addtion the the regular one.
The staff is always friendly and the service is great. I would recommend to couples, small groups or families. There is something for everyone. For special occasions, I would make a reservation."

"I went to Buckeye with my fiancee on Valentine's Day. I requested a table in their rustic-looking upstairs seating area, which they followed through with. I have been here many times in the past and overall had another pleasant experience. One thing that didn't sit well with me, however, was that the owner of the restaurant was spotted walking around giving "valentines" (which appeared to be neatly wrapped chunks of chocolate) to couples who were seated. I thought this was a nice gesture, except that he only went to about every other table, ignoring my fiancee as well as several other guests in our area. Either everyone or no one in my opinion. Overall though a nice night out."
