"I was excited to go for Lobster Monday. We were seated immediately for our 7:30 reservation & our drink order was taken. Excellent drinks. We were disappointed to see the Prix Fix menu was changed since I specifically picked that day for the menu. How can you run out of tempura? And the 3 chocolate tart was replaced with strawberry shortcake. Our server said specials included a beef bourguignon, but when he returned to take our order they were out of that as well. We were left with the impression of very poor planning in the kitchen. The restuarant was about 60% full, server was kind, personable, and apologetic about the lack of availability of items. Service was "casual" (35 minutes to order). I am not enthusiastic about a return visit."

"If you want an $8 hamburger for $18, then Jar is for you. Service and food have really gone downhill. My party actually said they do not want to go back (it used to be their favorite place when they visited). Very disappointing."

"Our server, Kevin, was terrible. Both my dining companion and I suspected he was high or on coke. When the food arrived it was very good, but not piping hot, which we let slide. Then, after we asked for the check, it took him 15 minutes to bring it. We gave him our credit cards, and then he disappeared for at least another 20 minutes. Horrible. Turned what should have been a nice evening into a real disappointment. I'm ashamed of myself for having given him a perfectly adequate tip - afterwards, I regretted that I tipped him at all. Would have stayed to complain to the manager, but it was already MUCH later than I'd wanted to get out of there."

"This was my first time dining at Jar. Right off the bat, my cocktail was delicious. The menu options looked great, so I had high expectations. My friend and I ordered the beet, goat cheese, arugula salad, which was tasty, but minimal. I had the jidori chicken with lemongrass. I didn't care for it at all. It had a lot of fat on it, plus a lot of skin. I also had the brussels sprouts with kimchi as a side. They had no flavor and I didn't taste the kimchi at all. I was disappointed. The service was great, it was a quiet place to catch up with an old friend. It was too dark - hard to read the menu. Overall, I came for the meal and it was less than satisfactory. I won't go back."

"The brunch was tasty, but it is very limited for those of us who do not eat meat as most dishes have meat. Or you have to go for something sugary like pancakes with syrup, after having eaten the very yummy but evil sticky buns. I ended up ordering the lobster poached eggs and requested no pork, although I never eat egg yolk, so this was a bit of a guilt trip for me. They were very rich and perfectly cooked. Their signature chocolate pudding is bittersweet chocolate and a treat.
We were not offered coffee until the end of the meal which was odd for brunch and disappointing. And because of the rich menu items it would have been nice to have had some healthier choices, like fish as a main dish or fruit for dessert."

"Always like this place. Most notable are their sides, oddly enough. Love the Duck rice, the purple potatoes and the brussel sprouts. Tried the Lemon grass chicken for the first time .. but found it a bit dry. My girlfriend had the petite filet ... very tasty. She had a great salad to start with ... forgot exactly what it was. Unfortunately, I realized that I couldn't enjoy the deep-fried clams I had ordered because the chef uses Canola oil - which is genetically modified rapeseed oil and really gives my stomach its run for the money, if you get my drift. It is sad that a restaurant of this statue uses this oil because it basically is cheap and has been pushed by heavy Canadian marketing. I'll return once she looses the oil!"

"Second visit to Jar, the food was just as good as I remembered. We had 7:30 reservations, we arrived just before and were immediately seated. I really enjoy the look of the restaurant. The staff seemed a bit rushed and timing for cocktails was off."

"We purchased a deal on gilt and it was a pre-fixe menu. Food was decent but nothing specular about it. Service was good, however, restaurant added 20% gratuity to our bill. Unless there's fine print on the pre-fixe menu, I don't know any restaurants add automatic gratuity for a party of TWO. It's such a turnoff, I would not return back to this restaurant again."

"Took my wife to Jar for our anniversary. It was on a Monday so the restuarant was kind of slow but we still enjoyed our experience. We ordered the pea purée to start and my wife loved it. We both had the skirt steak...very lovely! The service was great...he was very attentive. Overall...it was very good!"

"The food was excellent especially a stuffed squash blossom that was fried in a tempura batter. It is a generous appetizer with three fried blossoms attached to the baby zucchini. We had a quiet table in the corner and since we had reservations in the early evening, it was much quieter than a prior visit which was incredibly loud."

"Food was exceptional and a great ambiance. Only issues were service, our waitor always seemed impatient and in a hurry and no one checked that our meal was satisfactory, though fortunately it was. We would visit again and hope for more comfortable service to compliment great food."

"JAR provided us with a wonderful experience all around - perfect for our anniversary dinner this year! Felt like Old Hollywood tastefully mixed with Modern - both food and ambiance. re: Old Hollywood - We went for the Chef's specialty braises and both loved our choices. I had the coq a vin which was scrumptious - even though I typically don't care for dark meat. re: Modern - The salad with lobster, avocado and grapefruit as well as the baby peas with tendrils were both delightful additions to our meal. The waiter mentioned that there were several "regulars" dining that Friday night, and I thought that if we lived closer, we might become "regulars" too."

"My wife and I dined at Jar on a Wednesday night. Business was brisk, it was not the crazy rush of Saturdays. Jar delivers on the concept. It is a steak house, the menu is a modern take on the traditional model, but the staples are there to be had. The wine list is to the point and not overly priced considering the fact that the emphasis is on "big" wines. We had the special salad of the night (Pear and Humboldt Fog)perfectly balanced vinaigrette, the knife cuts were somewhat inconsistent, but regardless, it was a great appetizer. I add the dry aged Kansas steak which was perfectly executed and so was the bistro steak. The sides were simple and again perfectly executed. Dessert, although unassuming, were a pleasant surprise. Good service."

"We thought the food was well prepared with the exception of the bernaise, which had separated. Portions were perfect and the prices were on par with other places.
The decor and the lay out of dining room seemed tired and better suited to a place for taking one's older relatives. The strange rock and rock playing loudly in the dining room made us almost as uneasy and the wait staff, who seemed to be pacing between the tables with hawk eyes waiting for any dish to be emptied. The ambiance added up to a feeling that I was in a Lynch film."

"Jar is one of my all time favorites in LA. Everything on the menu is amazing, and in my opinion, the best steaks in town (I just went to CUT two weeks ago, paid double the price, and it was not as good). Service is impeccable."

"The service was good; the waiter was helpful and friendly. The food was good enough but the Signature Pot Roast was not as tasty or succulent as I thought it was going to be. Also I was given a few pieces of onion that were tough like cardboard and inedible so that detracted from my overall enjoyment of the meal; especially since it didn't come with many onions in the first place and since I love caramelised onions.
My husband thought his meal, which was the house chicken, was good enough but rather ordinary from a restaurant with such a reputation.
We probably wouldn't return, not because it was a bad experience, but because it wasn't that outstanding for the price."

"Dinner at Jar was once again memorable and fantastic. The specials are truly great and the regular menu selections are all so wonderful it is difficult to decide on what to order. Our table ordered the signature pot roast which was divine as well as the halibut special which was perfection. Our starter endive and Asian pear salads with a slice of Humboldt fog cheese on top was delicious to the last bite and our banana cream pie dessert was literally finger licking good we wanted to order a second one to go, but resisted. Service was a little slow at first, but once we got started it flowed well. We were extremely pleased and our out if town guest was thrilled. Can't wait to go back."

"I had been to Jar several times for dinner (always excellent), but this was my first time for brunch. My Lobster Benedict was great but my fiancée's breakfast burrito special (egg, gruyere, kimchi) was underwhelming. Best to stick with their staples. Service was slow because they wetter understaffed apparently (only one server for the whole room)."

"We had a really delicious meal at Jar, but the service was not so hot. When we were seated, it took a while for us to get menus, and one of my dinner companions finally decided to get up and ask for menus and for someone to take our cocktail order. It was kind of lame... Wile our server seemed genuinely nice, service could have been better. The food, however, was so delicious...so that made up for a lot!"

"Had been wanting to try Jar for quite awhile. It wasn't as good as I had hoped. The steaks were fine, I wouldn't order the caesar salad again, but there were a couple of stellar dishes, the tempura scallops appetizer, the char siu pork (amazing) and the banana cream pie."

"Here for Brunch, only served Sundays. Menu has the great standards with New American Slash Jar twist. So, if you've enjoyed (or read about) Jar's signature Pot Roast, you'll love the Pot Roast Hash for brunch. It's a huge helping, so I took home half my plate bc the portion was so filling. BF had the turkey sandwich served w fries. Nothing too out of the ordinary, just a nice time without the complications of a hipster must-see and be-seen moment. Space design is like a classic ode to Mid-Century Modern, with natural light coming from the 3 quiet windows. It made me feel like i HAD to have a martini in my hand, as I await Sammy Davis Jr from walking through the door at any moment... Solid good time."
