"The food here is beyond compare. Technically well done, creative, and fresh. The restaurant is clean and contemporary while maintaining comfort. The drawback is a sense,that the restaurant over emphasizes it's own perceived importance. Meaning so many decent American restaurants feel entitled to charge a ransom for decent food.
The wine and cocktail lists are extensive."

"I believe a food establishment such as Trummer's (affluent community, etc.) should have some thoughtfulness in the nourishment of its customers. Sure, we can make the choice to not eat there, I get that - but there was not ONE item on that brunch menu that was natural -- from the farm to the table. It can't be that hard. I was stunned that the fruit on the yogurt was an apple? Melons and berries are simply succulent right now. I can get an apple year-round, right?"

"good food and really well done until we got to the desserts. My spouse ordered something familiar sounding and received something very different (and disappointing). "We have been to this restaurant in the past and really enjoyed it. There is a new chef now and the food we had last weekend was not up to par. I didn't enjoy the dining experience and was sorry I paid so much for our dinner. I will not be going back."

"I had a great experience (great food, multiple courses ordered between 6 family members, all of whom were generally pleased by the quality and presentation). However, I had one small issue, in that I was asked (during the confirming phone call) if there were any special celebrations (there was, I mentioned that I and my now husband were getting married the next day, and also the next day was Mother's day, which I did not mention). Yet there was no acknowledgement of this at the restaurant during the whole dinner. I wouldn't have minded as much if they hadn't asked me, as it lead me to expect something and feel a little disappointed afterwards."

"This restaurant rises to the level of New Orleans, which is a high standard. My wife had cucumber gazpacho then chicken with a curry and peanut sauce and jasmine rise cake, I had the gazpacho also, then pork loin with brown sugar/bay leaf and collard greens with andouille, with a side of heirloom beets. For dessert I had a "bread-with-pudding" that was a variation on bread pudding. Everything was fabulous! It's now solidly on our rotation, which needed some additions.
The service was exceptionally friendly and helpful, the sommelier even dropped by twice, just to pour our not-pricey wine, and was charming. We couldn't have asked for more.
The location, in Clifton, is pretty and quaint, which adds to the charm."

"It was our anniversary and from the moment we arrived, my wife and I felt like royalty! The staff at Trummers were very professional, friendly made us feel welcome! The food was great and the pace at which it was served was perfect. James was our waiter and we really took a shine to him. We are both looking forward to returning soon!"

"The food was wonderfully creative and exceptionally prepared and those reasons alone make the restaurant worthy of a visit. However, I thought the food service was slow for the main entrees and desserts. I also dined on the top floor and it was so dark and quiet that I felt like I was eating in an attic."

"The only reason I gave this restaurant a very good instead of outstanding is because the male bartender was a bit cocky. I don't like it when you are paying top dollar and the bartender (or any service staff) has a cocky attitude. Everyone else was very nice."

"The noise level was so loud I thought I was in a cafeteria. My husband and I were seated in the "upper" dining room and found ourselves talking above the conversations of other tables around us. Tables are fairly spaced, so I thought it's just poor acoustics. The food was ok, but not worth the drive out to Clifton. I had to give a Noise Level on this evaluation and so gave it an "energetic" rating. I have been in restaurants where the noise level was "energetic" in a good/positive way; the noise level at Trummer's was just irritating."

"Trummers is a delightful place, but let me cut to the chase: The food is very good, but I do not think its quality matches up to the prices. Furthermore the plating and presentation of the food also do not match the overall quality/flavors. The restaurant is nearly there, but for the moment I tend to think Trummers needs a bit of an ego check. I can get similar quality food for $10 less per plate at other restaurants. The service is wonderful, the ambiance/space is perfect, and the cocktails get two thumbs up for quality - the food just doesn't get live up to its expectations. Tasty, sure, but not amazing. I would be willing to give Trummers another chance, but this is the second time I've left disappointed."

"They had rented out the restaurant for a wedding, but had not revealed that until we arrived. We were served on the 3rd floor which had very little ambience. Not a special occasion venue. Our waiter was great and so were the other helpers. Very nice. Food was good, not great. Appetizer of beet ravioli was surprisingly innovative and delicious. Fish dish looked a bit dried but tasted fine. Risotto was warm, not hot. Plates were hot. Maybe under the warming light too long. May give it another try. Would definitely make sure that the reservation was in the main dining room."

"My wife's birthday was special with chef's 5 course special. They even allowed my 10 yr old to sample while providing her some kid favorite french fries that were delicious. When I say Wow, I mean WOW! Mixed drinks are original and have a great wine list if that doesn't suit you. "Main courses perfect - tender, flavorful rockfish with blackened crust and fresh mushroom saute! Pork - so good you stop eating just so you can bring some home to eat again tomorrow! Sweet potato looked & tasted machine made. Crawfish etouffee too salty, Very good chocolate ganache. Staff very good, but the jeans noticeably too casual...Decor nearly Pottery Barn perfect...but got lost in \confused effort to be modern or colonial or rustic without every making commitment to any style. Owner friendly/welcoming but curious that he told they hired new chef to start in few weeks-explains the uneven menu. All that being said, a most enjoyable evening, very good meal. We will eat here again someday, perhaps June or July after new chef settles in."

"We celebrated the birthday of my father, who happens to be an old farmboy / Korean & Vietnam war vet. The staff was so attentive to him, that he smiled & laughed the entire night without getting grumpy with anyone. LOL

"Beautiful interior! Loved all the big windows, the greenery, the old fashioned fans and, of course, the French chardonnay I had with dinner, but there were some major issues that will keep me from returning:
1) the young woman who set bread on our plates and silverware kept reaching directly across each of us to do so...she was quite pleasant, but you'd think she'd know better;
2) the bread was hard, flavorless and barely warm;
3) our meals (rockfish, steaks) were okay, but nothing special;
4) the price did not go with the food!

"I was incredibly disappointed. This was my 3rd dining experience at Trummer's though my first brunch meal there. I was previously quite pleased. Nothing was bad, per say, at this recent brunch, but for the cost, it should have been stellar. The bar tender was new and not experienced; we had to tell him how to make a Bloody Mary. The water was served lukewarm to two of our four guests; we asked for additional waters and ice which took 15 minutes to arrive. Our wait staff and server both seemed like they were in a daze. The portions seemed exceptionally small (from experience, I knew they were small but that was always okay because they were very good). But the French toast consisted of 1 medium slide with perhaps 1.5 sliced strawberries"

"The main dining room was fantastic - all windows, felt like a conservatory. The service was attentive,friendly and knowledgeable. The food was tasty, and although my pan roasted swordfish was perfectly cooked - crisp on the outside, moist and tender inside, the sides were not warm... cold gnocchi and spoonbread - disappointing.
The main reason I would NOT recommend Trummers is that is not a good value. The prices were way too high - was I paying for the lovely dining room more than the food, which was good but did not merit the cost? A dinner for one, with one glass of wine, for near $90 should be absolutely stellar, in my opinion."

"Having been here for dinner my expectation for brunch was high, our dinner had been fabulous! Brunch however was nice but not a WOW. I ordered the steak and eggs with fries, the steak and fries were good the sunny side up eggs were runny and plain. I had to order a side of toast to go with them ( toast is not on the brunch menu so it took awhile to arrive). My husband was happy with his order, I honestly don't remember what it was. Overall the ambiance and service were great, I just found the menu lacking and I did not enjoy my entree. I will be going again, just not for brunch."

"We had been wanting to try Trummer's for some time...and chose our anniversary to do so.
We enjoyed a cocktail at the bar before going upstairs for dinner. I had the Titanic which was fabulous, my husband had the Manhattan and said it was one of the best he has had. The bar staff was very knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations!
We enjoyed our time at the bar so much that we want to back and just dine at the bar next time for a more casual outing.
We enjoyed the entire experience and definitely be back!"

"The staff never called us for our table until 45 minutes after we arrived!
We sat at our table and were never served our food until after 10:00 pm.
Our reservation was at 8:30.
Price of food is way too high for what it is. Third time dining there and tnough it is a lovely setting we probably won't go back."

"When confirming my reservation, I told Colleen that it was our anniversary and asked for a more quiet/out of the way spot for our table. She said 'yeah' quickly and then hung up. When we arrived, we had a small table, crunched in between a bunch of other tables. It was a terrible table and it wasn't appreciated that she completely ignored our request.
My spouse was served the wrong dish, but it was fixed somewhat quickly. The food was very good (too bad mine got a bit cold while we waited for the corrected dish). The waiters very extremely friendly and polite.
We might eat here again, but we definitely won't book any special events here as they don't seem to care about such requests."

"I have been to Trummers on several occasions. They never fail to impress me every time I go in. I bring all my family or visiting friends to Trummers. The food is excellent I am working my way through the menu and have not found a thing I did not love. I enjoy Trummers for a few drinks with friends, Sunday Brunch, or a romantic dinner. It is my go to place for great food and outstanding service!"

"While this was our first trip to Trummer's we had great expectations after reading so many wonderful things about the place. Our table was in the back room in the corner outside the kitchen so we saw a lot of activity only it was not at our table. Everything took a really long time...getting our waiter to our table and then a long time to get our appetizers and over an hour from then to get our main dish. The food was delicious once we were served."

"This was our second trip to Trummer's. The food was well prepared and presented. The taste was excellent in most respects. We had Tuna, Veal Porterhouse and a Ribeye. All were tasty and I would recommend any of them. Our soup and salad was wonderful and frankly I liked my salad better than the veal. Overall a nice meal from the kitchen. Service was bumpy. Our waitstaff was attentive while the waiter was basically just "in the area". Admittedly he was working at least three or four other tables, a couple of them quite large. We didn't order wine and somehow that seemed to make a difference. The entree and the salad course were separated by at least 20min -- uggh. The sun room noisy but we liked the look. We will probably be back."

"Trummer's on Main in Clifton, VA is a foodies gourmet find. I've dined there on 2 occasions and had a great meal both times. On our last visit, we splurged and had the Chef's tasting menu with paired wine tastings. Five small plates prepared by the chef were served. the spring lamb and Atlantic salmon were notable. There was an extra dish and a few extra wine pairings thrown in for lagniappe! Memorable evening. Call for reservations and ask to be seated up stairs."

"I've been wanting to try Trummers for awhile. Unfortunately a mixed bag but I won't be returning.
The service was odd; pleasant but unprofessional. Lots of reaching over, deliveries to wrong diner, glacially slooooooooooow. These folks really could use some training as otherwise the place really just pretends at fine dining.
My companions, without exception, pronounced their drinks, appetizers and main courses to be excellent. I asked for a vegetarian entree as their website said this option was always available and I noted this on the Open Table reservation. This is what I got: three thin slices of tomato, 2 Brussels sprouts and two chopped up mushrooms in some sauce. I'm serious. About 90 cents worth of uninspired food for $26"

"Very nice service in all aspects. Great ambiance. Food came out in a timely manner. This was my second time for dinner and the first time commenting. Came with another couple. Found the wine list comprehensive but lacking in wines in the 40 dollar bottle range. Our group stuck to wines by the glass and cocktails which were priced much more in line with other resturants. Loved the tuna. Cooked perfectly and a nice size portion. The New York strip was very fatty and was not an adequate size for the price paid. We ordered two bar appetizers after being told that the Brie was sold out. The waiter brought us a popcorn appetizer since the Brie was sold out. Thought that was a nice gesture except that he charged us for it."

"Overall an excellent dinner for a special occasion. I had the butter chicken and my wife tried the pork shoulder. Both were well prepared and presented however I have had better butter chicken in a good Indian restaurant. The service and ambiance were just right for our anniversary dinner. We will go back to try a beef entree and I hear the Sunday fixed price dinner is a very good time to go to Trummer's."

"We have been to Trummers many times and really enjoyed last Easter's brunch but this year the service was average which part of the reason to go there. The waiter did not know anything about kids meals and the table next to use got their food after us even though they were seated after. The kitchen was not ready at open and my entree was different than those served after. After ordering my coffee twice it finally arrived after my dessert. So, I was very disappointed."

"I have been to Trummers twice and both times left wishing to give them another chance. Interesting food (some ideas better than others), nice "but in need of more training" servers. I wish they both could be just a bit better to match up to a very compelling design and wonderful space. This should be a Clifton gem, and is very close but not quite there."

"Every thing was fine with service. As far as the meal servings was fine,I can see that that I am only a 3 course meal person; beacause, I was full after the appetiser. Then I had the main dish and then desert. If it were a 5 course meal I would not be able to walk out the door. But every thing was fine and had a good time!"
