"This is a great little place - casual, friendly, neighborhood feel. Great service, friendly waitress. Good drinks. We all loved the Middle Eastern- Mediterranean fusion feel to the food. Pistachio meatballs, smoked trout, eggplant appetizer - all winners. But the real stars of the night go to the entrees - braised lamb, beef cheeks and even the lamb burger. All juicy, delicious and flavorful. Everyone was swooning til the last bite! And even though its a bar with good food, it wasn't too loud, so we could talk. Would definitely return."

"Our first time. We went with friends who are Persian so that helped. They did the ordering. We were not let down. The food is tasty. The lamb was gorgeous, full of flavour, melt in your mouth. Look forward to going back an d trying more."

"We were early for our dinner reservation and had the restaurant to ourselves. Bar was beginning happy hour. Our waiter Fernando was attentive and made great recommendations of the notable dishes of the chef. My wife had the kufteh tabrizi stuffed with duck and I had the lamb sirloin. The rose preserve in the baklava was very memorable. We'll be back soon!"

"When you first walk in the space seems very nice and it is a truly nice space. But when waiting at the bar for the rest of my party an uncomfortable heat has you shedding clothes as fast as you can. When the bartender, that was wearing a spaghetti strapped top to cope with the temperature, was asked about the heat, she confirmed that indeed we were not alone. When seated at the table we asked the waiter if anything could be done and he said maybe they can open a window but this proved ineffective if it actual did occur. It is almost impossible to have a restaurant in SF that is too warm but not at Zare. The food and service were fine not that special but we left after entrees to get out in the cool SF air."

"The restaurant feels welcoming, intimate, and unpretentious. Noise level got a little too high in the curtained area because of a large group but it was manageable. The beef cheeks entree in parsnip puree with pickled cauliflower and mushrooms was delicious; so was the chocolate dessert! And the price was not prohibitive, although for my budget, it is definitely a special-occasion kind of place worth coming back to."

"We had a reservation for 8:30, but weren't seated till about 9, and it was at a communal table upfront. Tried a few appetizers and had bites of the mains from the other people in the group. Each dish was interesting... but at the end I didn't think any of them were special. The ideas behind them are better than the actual execution/taste. My favorite is still the pistachio meat balls, expect I feel they were better the few times I had been to Zara prior to this visit. Drinks are delicious, really liked the mule with candied oranges."

"What a fantastic evening! The view of the Bay Bridge light display is mesmerizing. My eyes were only drawn away by the amazing food and desserts! (And the conversation, of course). I am a long- time fan of Emily Luchetti's dessert cookbooks. I was thrilled to actually taste some of them in situ! The oysters, too, were wonderful. "I made last minute reservations to take an out of town friend out to dinner. We could only get a late reservation at 8:45 but decided we'd go in early, just in case they could accommodate us. We figured we could always just get some drinks while we waited. Zare was very welcoming and found us a table about 20 minutes before our reservation time. My friend has some food allergies and the server was knowledgeable of the menu and able to accommodate our dietary needs. We got the lamb shank, roast chicken and beef shank for our entrees and each were full of flavor as well as visually pleasing. Between the delicious food and great service, I'd definitely recommend this place. And Zare was hilarious."

"The food and service were both superb. The special fried/baked chicken wing appetizer was fantastic and my quail and duck confit was splendid. Service was prompt and courteous as well. The issue I had, repeatedly, was the enormous amount of noise from other patrons. This was not only an issue while waiting at the bar to be seated, but once seated there was a large group in the back that was oblivious to anyone else being there. I don't know that the restaurant can really change the noise issue, and maybe it was on a particular night, but it did repeatedly make it difficult to have a conversation."
