The ancient tradition of the Samurai lives on at Mikado where knife-twirling chefs use fire and steam to create a mouth watering menu of steak, chicken and seafood delights. The highlight of the experience is the dazzling talents of your chef as he expertly chops, juggles, jokes and prepares an incredible meal right before your eyes. While you are led to your table through our private Japanese garden, notice the Koi swimming below and the sound of cascading waterfalls.
Mikado at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort and Spa is known throughout the Coachella Valley and Southern California as the leader in authentic Teppan-Yaki Dining.
But it doesn’t stop there! East meets West at the ultimate sushi bar where you can relax and enjoy the freshest foods and a signature martini or sake. Celebrate an intimate gathering or a private function up to 150 guests at Mikado where the food is the show! Arigato!

"We enjoyed our evening but felt a little rushed, our Chef Ricky was great and funny, he put on an excellent show and cooked our meals to perfection. Our group had steak, prawns, scallops and chicken and all were delicious. Our service was not exceptional but okay, our miso soup came right after appies and rice immediately after before our dinners were even being prepared, so the rice was cold by the time we ate. Unless of course you ordered the fried rice which the chef prepared for an additional fee. At the end we wanted to relax and enjoy ourselves but they came by to clean our table and the grill, we felt like it was a signal for us to leave but we weren't ready to go! It soured off the evening but the food and Chef show made up for it."

"The food was o.k., the service was exceptionally off base, the "entertainment" from the table chef was cheesy, and the prices were exorbitant. I don't mind paying more for quality food and a good experience but I got neither at Mikado. This is my first time eating at a Mikado style of restaurant and I never will again. The topper was when they had a man who proclaimed himself a "regular" finish his bland green tea ice cream in the bar because they had to make room for the next round of guests coming in to sit at our table. The overall meal felt rushed but to see a regular's wife finishing her dessert next to a stranger is unacceptable. The overall experience was disappointing and overpriced."

"A little expensive, but always fun with the kids. If you are a party of 2 adults and 2+kids, I recommend getting two large combo dinners and splitting."

"The cook was amazing. He told G rated jokes which keep everyone including our kids laughing. He was engaging. This is really a treat for a family. The meats could be a little better quality. The server came around twice and he could have come around a little more often for drink orders."

"Restaurant was nice but we were seated in a side room with no views so that definitely detracted from the experience. The chef was god and entertaining. The food was good not great. the boat ride over to the resaurant is great for kids and our daughter enjoyed celebrating her birthday there."

Review 11 for Mikado at Desert Springs JW Marriott
"We were lucky to have the most skilled and funniest chefs at our table--Mike ("Mikado was named after him."). The food was amazing, especially the shrimp. The only small issue was that it took the bar staff too long to transfer the drinks we started in the bar while waiting to be seated for dinner to the table we were seated at."

"We were rushed because we were seated with a family who had been seated earlier so our Miso soup(cold and blah) and salad were served almost simultaneously. The preparation was entertaining and well done but it is not one of the places we would highly recommend unless you were more interested in entertainment than the dining experience."

"If you are looking to have a great meal that is entertaining as well as delicious, I would highly recommend this restaurant. We took the boat over to the restaurant which was a treat and the atmosphere and grounds are beautiful. The food was excellent, the servers were attentive and the chef made my daughter's 21st birthday a very memorable one. He was quick witted, fun, creative, and literally made her evening. He had her take her chair and move it 30'-40' away from where he was cooking, had her sit down and proceeded to toss a piece of shrimp through the air for her to catch in her mouth. She did it and the restaurant exploded with applause."

Review 14 for Mikado at Desert Springs JW Marriott
"This place is a real gem for anyone visiting the Palm Desert area -- especially with kids! It's a Japanese restaurant with the "Benihana" style teppan tables ... so a show comes free with dinner. The chefs have a great sense of humor and keep things lively. There is a beautiful koi garden to walk around in if the kids get restless ... and also a boat ride between the lobby and the restaurant to make things interesting and fun on the way to and from dinner. The teppan dishes are a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it! While not fancy, the food is tasty, relatively healthy, and high quality."

"Our dining experience was very good. We were entertaining clients who were staying in the hotel and the restaurant was very convenient. I would definitely choose this restaurant again if entertaining clients in the future."

"Everything was good but the food. All dishes made on the grill were salty. Good experience otherwise but food should be good for this kinds of price tag."

Review 17 for Mikado at Desert Springs JW Marriott
"I took my wife on a special date and I have to say Mikado's is a really great place to have dinner. Waiting staff and chef are very friendly and make the experience great. Be sure to skip the sushi bar on this one, the show at the table is where it is at. The Chef's are fun to watch as they make your food right at your table. Food is all fresh and can choose what you want in your dishes. Green tea ice cream is delicious. Their sushi is good also, I have had their sushi before and is great. Romantically get a table to make it a great night. If you are looking for some sushi and a hangout for some drinks the Sushi bar is where it is."

"The food was great,. The chef was great. My only concern is that I was unaware that gratuity was included in my bill. Therefore, I tipped twice. I wish my waiter had told me this."

Review 19 for Mikado at Desert Springs JW Marriott
Food was fun, well proportioned, cooked in front of you, good all around.
The best part was the interaction with the other folks at the table. We were 4 and seated with 6 others. All had fascinating stories, and got along really well with the kids."

Review 20 for Mikado at Desert Springs JW Marriott
"Valentine's Day dinner. We weren't told there was a preset menu which is understandable, but dinner prices were higher, too. This would of influenced my decision as I paid more here than at a top steakhouse. The rest of the experience was outstanding."

Review 21 for Mikado at Desert Springs JW Marriott
"I was upset that there was not a regular menu available, there were limited choices and if that was the case it should have been posted that the regular menu was not available and the price was kind of rediculious $65 per person? There was a couple next to us that was not sure if they would have had enough money to pay for dinner...I could have gone somewhere nicer for that price!"
