Capitol City Brewing Company - Downtown
Capitol City Brewing Co. opened its doors in 1992 as the first brew pub in our nation's capitol since prohibition, thus giving its citizens and its many visitors the freedom to enjoy some of the finest hand-crafted beer in the country. On the front of our menu is the symbol of freedom, the Lady Liberty, a statue found atop our namesake, the United States Capitol.
Nestled in the heart of Washington's rejuvenated downtown, this location has become a local landmark for celebrating great beer and food with family and friends. We have always taken great pride in our beer so come in and enjoy a cold pint of our very best and match it to one of the many menu selections tailored to the brews we serve.

"This place was a model of inconsistency. The waiter would be really attentive for a few minutes and then disappear for a long while. The Bloody Mary glasses would sometimes be almost to the brim with vodka and other times they were less than half full. It was also like pulling teeth to get the waiter to refill a glass. We were a large group (14) and they were kind enough to split the check from the get go but ultimately the service here would keep me from going back."

"I was hosting a workshop in town and had many visitors attending. I wanted something fun and local for our first night out and settled on Capitol City. The food was great and they had on our guests favorite hockey team. The only downsides were that it was a little noisy for good conversation and the service was a little slow. The place was packed, which accounts for both issues in my book. I would definitely go back, and all my guests felt it was a great experience."

"The beer and food were very good, and I would recommend this location for either sports watching, enjoying a good beer, or a very reasonably priced beer and lunch combination.
However, I had difficulty locating the restaurant since there is no indication from New York Ave that Capitol City Brewing Company is in the building. The entrance is on H street, rather than the advertised New York Ave address."

"Food was good - fish and chips were great! Our only complaint was that the food arrived too quickly. The kids' dishes arrived in 5 minutes, which was fine but our appetizer and main dishes were super fast and right on top of each other. We felt rushed."

"Met friends here at our recent trip to DC. We had 4 adults and 5 kids in our party and the place was perfect for our group. They had six beers on tap and we had a sampler to try all of them. Pretty good beer. They gave you warm pretzels while looking over the menu which the kids loved. Menu was very large with lots of choices from salads to sandwiches to pizza. The service was good. Our waitress stopped by all the time to make sure we were ok. The atmosphere was very energetic and loud. But that worked great because our kids voices just blended in! Would go back next time I am in town."

"The serving staff were really nice and accommmodating especially because we have two kids. The beer was good. However, the food was not that great. The burger was a bit dry and tasteless. The veggies for the burger looked like they had been sitting on the plate for a long time before being ordered ie. the lettuce was very floppy. It was just marginal at best."

"I made (2) reservations at this restaurant this week. Both reservations were made an hour in advance for 11 people at 9PM and the next was for 7 people at 7PM. Upon arriving at the restaurant the hostess told us there were no tables as they had a wait list. After asking why they would accept an OpenTable reservation I was told that I should have done it earlier. There were never apologies, only excuses. They have no business using OpenTable if they can't commit to a reservation that they confirm. I would not recommend relying on OpenTable with this restaurant."

"Nice for a brew pub. Wait staff was very good, we had a party of 7, waiter did not rush us letting us enjoy our food and brews, and one person asked if she could have a separate check and he did that for the entire table. I was impressed by that. It's true they give you fresh hot soft pretzels for free. I am on a porter kick, the Prohibition Porter was very good."

"I am a regular here -- love their $2 happy hour beers and $5 appetizers, great atmosphere, and awesome waitstaff.
