"I was looking forward to going to Jonathan Waxman's restaurant but was disappointed. The food was good but portions a bit small. Also, the restaurant was very loud and the overall ambience was lacking. It was a very cool evening and they had all the doors open so everyone ate with their coats on. I enjoyed my dinner but it is not a restaurant to which I wish to return."

"If you dislike sitting in crowded downtown or midtown restaurants for lunch, this place and this part of town is a wonderful option. Terrific meal in relaxed setting. Besides, it is so much harder to get a table in the evenings."

"I kept wondering what Jonathan Waxman would say if he shared our meal last night. We started with the pate which was good. The calamari was so salty we had to send it back and we never send food back. The beet salad in its place was light and clean. The lamb was not perfect. Half was like butter, the other half so chewy I chose to spit it out. The chicken, of course is the winner here, as was the potatoes. The snap peas were ok, too much butter. Sadly my dinner companions could not hear each other so I had to keep telling them what the other said, since I sat between them. Won't be back for dinner. Lunch is much more civilized, and I will stick with the chicken and potatoes."

"Menu plays with lots of different flavors, I particularly liked the play on bitter flavors such as shaved asparagus or the pickling of spring vegetables, however my cut of lamb was not as high quality nor nearly as well cooked as what I expected!"

"This was our second visit. We love the roast chicken and crispy potatoes. We also enjoyed the kale salad. As we come from Rhode Island, we cannot eat there oftem but will make it a destination again in the future."

"Come early and enjoy the friendly bar scene - italian on tap or experiment with the bartender who delight in creating a signerature drink per week. A walk through the door of this petite restaurant puts you in to the professional arms of a caring and passionate staff. The open kitchen provides witness to the air of being well taken care of - open the wine list and be dazzled. Old day chicken pate with pistachio was a dietary splurge worth every ounce - the mussels with its smokey spec wine broth set memories. The orecchiette with roasted cauliflower, anchovies and capers is a dish to return to over and over as ar the roast chicken and the delightful cod with puree of seasonal parsnips and the delightful crunch of hazelnut..."

"Casual setting and wonderful food. Chicken lived up to the hype as maybe best in the nation. Short ribs were fork tender and delicious. Staff was happy to serve us family style which was great with our young kids. A true stand out."

"This was the best upscale dining experience my family has ever had together. Our 13 and 14 year old girls were so happy with the JW chicken and pasta with meat ragu. So was dad, who got to enjoy what little leftovers there were. Many thanks!"

"We were fortunate enough to reserve the chef's table right in the kitchen for our party of 10 and could not have been happier! The energetic, vibrant atmosphere was fun and the food was outstanding!! We loved the family-style platters and home style cooking, with some culinary surprises thrown in! The wine selection was fantastic, and the service attentive and friendly!! Can't wait to return to Barbuto!"

"Fine if you want to (quite literally) eat a meal in a garage. They even have two roll-up doors, one of which was open on a 45 degree day, and then was closed due to freezing patrons. The sound of the overhead door closing was similar to a 747 crashing into the top of the building.
I'm all for alternative spaces for traditional activities, but asking me to eat a meal in a garage is stupid. Oh, and, the music? You better like the Beatles. Every 3rd song... really? Food was fine, nothing memorable."

"Brunch at Barbuto is one of my favorite things in the world. The food is fantastic & the brunchy cocktails are wonderful. I haven't eaten one thing at Barbuto that I haven't absolutely loved! The staff are fast & kind. I highly recommend the chickory salad & the breakfast pizza... any of the drinks, and the desserts are ridiculously yummy. Just go, that's all."

"The chicken is not to be missed, and we really enjoyed the gnocchi with walnut pesto and calamari. Ice cream panino was a perfect finish. They were very accommodating with a last-minute reservation change. Need to come back in warmer weather when the garage doors are opened!"

"Very attentive wait staff and excellent value in the food will make this our go-to place. Appetizers and side portions were perfect for sharing. Roast chicken was rich and satisfying. Grilled beets with sunflower seeds and mascarpone was heaven as an accompaniment. Vanilla bean bread pudding with cherries and port ice cream for dessert was the ultimate way to end this cozy, heartwarming meal."

"Our dinner was excellent! The pork loin was juicy and packed with flavor. Of course, the roast chicken was the best ever. Our server was helpful and attentive without being overbearing. Chef Waxman was warm and friendly. We had a wonderful evening."

"Barbuto will always be a family favourite. Second visit in as many trips to NYC. Cusine is true Italian comfort food, like the Braised Short Ribs with creamy Polenta, the Pappardelle with Oxtail, and of course the crispy JW Chicken with Salsa Verde. Staff deliver it all with an easy and friendly manner that makes you feel at home. The house-made Biscotti with Budino Cioccolato was a fabulous final touch to finish a great meal. Highly Recommended."

"This place used to be amazing. The roasted chicken is still the stand-out dish, but all other dishes were uninspired and fairly bland. Desserts were not even worth tasting. Service was excellent."

"Very nice food, excellent service. I was there a cold evening, the heating goes from very warm to ok. I would like to come again during the warmer season, when outdoor is possible. Great mix of Italian and American food. Great value for money."

"The Owner/Chef Mr. J. Waxman is the Picasso of the New York City Restaurant world. My wife and I compare all others to Barbuto but nobody offers pasta and grilled chicken and potatoes/rosemary at the level that even comes close. Long live Barbuto. Mr Waxman really cares about his food and his clients. Tres Bien. Merci. Baron von Sandlaufer"

"My review ratings are low and my overall experience was terrible only because I am a vegetarian. Vegetarians are relegated to options of one type of pizza and gnocchi...bascially the fall back choices that are all starch heavy, while others can order innovative main courses. They serve 3 kinds of vegetable side dishes, which combined can make a very good vegetarian plate without any extra efforts by the kitchen. The side dishes are very large portions, and I asked them to make me a main dish of their 3 vegetable side dishes. However, the waiter said that the kitchen does not like to make any changes at all and no they cannot make me a plate. I cannot understand this kind of absurd inflexibility. I left the restaurant still hungry."
