At Bistro by the Tracks Executive Chef Chester Miller masterfully blends culinary traditions from across the globe with the familiar tastes of East Tennessee. Reviewers say “consistently spectacular” with friendly “non-stuffy” service. Bistro by the Tracks simply is Knoxville’s answer to great metropolitan dining.
"The service was very slow and when he did come back to the table he smelled of fresh cigarette smoke(yuck!). The chz/meat plate, the steak and desserts were all good. The chicken portion that my coworkers was small according to them. Also we didn't get our dining points credited to Opentable."

"Surprised my Mom by taking her to Bistro this past Sunday. The door was held for us, the service was excellent and the food arrived promptly. Bistro also has a very decent wine selection, and a solid crowd hung out by the bar. I can't recommend this place enough; it's good for many different types of occasions. Also, they just changed their menu, and it's full of goodies. People passionate about a little "experience" with their food won't be disappointed."

"My wife and I both have to eat gluten free, so the server was very helpful in navigating the menu. She was very responsive and available. We'll definitely go back to Bistro by the Tracks."

"Our friends were held up by a big traffic jam on I-40 west of Asheville, and had to quickly change and rush to meet us at Bistro by the Tracks. It made a big difference that we had already been seated in very comfortable and relaxing chairs. Our server could not have been more knowledgeable and charming. She did not rush us at all but somehow seemed always available when we were ready for her. The food and drinks were really excellent. Our friends enjoyed the evening very much, and so did we. Again we were able to show Knoxville off."

"My wife andhad our anniversary celebration there; I had specified this in my reservation asking for some recognition of that by the staff, but none occurred.Disappointed from start to finish. The "English" pea soup was so sweet it almost tasted like a dessert, not like any pea soup I've had in the British isles. We've always enjoyed the Wedge salad but it was not as good: no balsamic reduction, no hunks of blue cheese. I ordered the chicken which was well prepared and attractive but somewhat fatty and a quite small single breast. My wife's filet was tasty, but nothing extraordinary. The strawberry shortcake was tiny, a bit stale and filled with maybe 1 strawberry that had been chopped up. With tip, the meal was almost $150; not worth it."

"The caesar salad and roasted chicken entree were fantastic. I was a bit disappointed in the lemon merengue "pie", the deconstruction was fine, even adding some blueberries was not terrible, but whoever thought about adding earl grey tea to the merengue needs to think again.
But overall, I was very impressed and would definitely go again."

"Apparently the kitchen is under the guidance of a new chef who is in love with brussel sprouts. We went to celebrate my wife's birthday without this knowledge. I am a picky eater but not her. We picked up the menus and just looked at each other. It was nothing like what it have been like just a couple of months ago when we ate there with out of town guests. There were at least two dishes featuring brussel sprouts. Who eats these things? Anyway, I was at a loss to find something that I liked but since it was my wife's birthday, I did not say anything. After perusing the menu a while longer, she looked at me and said she did not see anything that appealed to her, so we left. Its a shame. This was our go-to place for special events."

"Every time we visit or pass through Bistro by the Tracks is a must have dinner. The food is always exceptional. I had the Salmon over lentils and brussel sprouts. It was had a nutty flavor and was divine. My friend had the mkt fish special it was a lite flounder with a roasted pepper relish. Also very good. We had some wine left in our bottle and there is nothing better then red wine and chocolate. That was a bit disappointing. It was a desert with three chocolates, but some powders, so the texture and taste was different. It wasn't bad, but I would not get again."

"By the Tracks Bistro has been my favorite restaurant in Knoxville for years. I've eaten there numerous times and everything has always been top shelf. The last two times that I've been there I've noticed that they've increased their prices considerably and the portions have gotten much smaller. They actually serve a scallop appetizer that consists of a single (1) scallop for $12. The glasses of wine that we ordered were barely a quarter filled. I was really surprised by these changes and mentioned them to a friend who said she had noticed the same things. The food is very tasty and it's really a nice restaurant. I'm really disappointed in these changes and I probably won't return because of them."

"Bistro By The Tracks offers excellent presentation of very well prepared and extremely tasty food with proper service (attentive without being intrusive). While not inexpensive, it offers a meal that would cost many times as much in the big city and it is every bit as good as big city fancy restaurants. A good place to take a date or out of town guest you want to impress with a dining experience."

"The food at BBTT has recently gone rapidly down hill. We understand that they have a new chef. If so, that was a major mistake by what was a couple of years ago a reliable mid-range restaurant. On a recent visit, our dinners arrived at the table cold and undercooked. Given that we were having simple hamburgers and there were only a handful of active tables in the house, that was unacceptable. They replaced one burger with a salad, after arguing that the burger was done properly. No other satisfaction offered where a good restaurant would have paid for our drinks, offered free desert or comped the salad. We won't go back unless we hear that they have shaped up. Too bad, the ambiance is excellent."

"Outstanding food. Service was very good but server could have been a little more helpful in selecting a wine from their extensive selection. Expected more of a casual "gastropub" atmosphere from the Open Table description, however found it to be a more formal fine dining atmosphere. Bistro By the Tracks measures up well to some of the fine dining establishements we have here in Charleston, SC."

"We have loved going to Bistro By the Tracks for years. We were shocked to show up and see that their always reliable menu has been drastically changed. In our opinion, it is not for the better. The food was OK. Just not the same Bistro we had come to love. Hope this will be a temporary change and we will see some of their signature dishes back on the menu."

"Our dinner was outstanding and very well planned. More than just your typical fare the chef has created a menu that allows the most adventurous eaters to be satisfied while maintaining a very approachable feeling for those with less willing to take a chance. The shrimp scampi blew me away. The choice to pair the shrimp with roasted garlic spaetzel was perfect. And to have the mindset to cook that spaetzel in shrimp stock took the dish to a new level. My favorite dish was the "Beef and Broccoli". Served with a coulotte steak perfectly cooked to a mid rare with a broccoli puree and tender, delicately prepared florets took the show. Finally a chef in Knoxville who does not feel the need to serve a flavorless filet to appease the masses."

"A talented chef, Chris Stallard, makes this already excellent place a standout. The food is inventive yet recognizable and, of course, delicious. The charcuterie plate consisting of a mix of out sourced and house made items was terrific. Hearty, but not too much so. I had sweetbreads - my favorite food - and while I would have preferred them without the Buffalo sauce preparation (I felt it overwhelmed their delicacy), I applaud the originality. The atmosphere is very "Manhattan chic' but not actually very warm, visually speaking. The tables themselves, however, are well proportioned for conversation and distance. We have never experienced anything but wonderful, well paced service but then we always get Yarek, a friend and favorite waitperso"

"I enjoied my dining experience at Bistro by the Tracks, however, I was quite dissapointed in the low menu selection and also dissapointed that the vast menu had been totally changed. There were a few selections such as the calamari that were no longer avalible. Other than the poor menu selection the food was great the service was wonderful and I will definitely be back if thy can straighten out a bigger dinner variety."

"Service was great but I was indifferent about the menu. My girlfriend and I were on a valentine's date on Friday and were really looking Forward to the old menu especially the filet bites and the duck but we were told the menu had just changed and you all had a new chef with new entrees. Yes the entrees were new and interesting but like I said before all we wanted was the filet bites with gnocchi and the duck entree but we ended up ordering the ribeye with brocoli. Dish was good but hey I can get that pretty much get that anywhere else. Not sure if we'll be back anytime soon considering the menu change. Otherwise the service and ambiance were great. Thank you for your time."
