Set in the heart of downtown Redwood City, Donato Enoteca offers true and honest contemporary Italian cuisine from Executive Chef Donato Scotti that changes weekly determined by the freshest available seasonal produce. Homemade pastas, wood-burning oven pizzas, meat and fish courses are available, executed in an authentic yet modern way. The menu spans every region of Italy and incorporates artisanal products, such as fresh imported burrata, prosciutto, grappa and olive oil. Other in-house specialties include sausages, mostarda and lamb prosciutto. The wine list focuses on smaller-production boutique wineries from Italy, California and France.

"We had a party of 6 and from the moment we were brought to our table, which was set for 5 instead of 6, the service was not very good. When our server took our order, he forgot to take one order for a member of our party. Then when the food was brought to the table, dishes were set down randomly without explanation. When we did ask about certain dishes, they were inevitably not the right dish for the right person. The food was fine, but the service just made the overall experience not really worth it. On top of all that, it was incredibly loud. We were at a fairly small round table and had to shout to hear one another."

"Everyone loved their food. We were there for a birthday. Our party included 2 toddlers. They have a good child menu. Our grandchildren had pizza and pasta with butter. The bruschetta with cingale was excellent, as the entrees. My daughter and I tried the fish dished dishes and each one was delicious!"

"The variety of choices on the menu made it difficult to choose. Everything we did choose was outstanding. The bread was warm and aromatic when it was brought to the table and the dipping sauce was unique and delicious. Each of us chose a different salad and each one was wonderful. The buckwheat pasta with wild mushrooms was so tender it melted in our mouths. Two of us in the party had grown up eating the finest Italian food at home and all of us have traveled extensively in Italy. Donato's compares favorably with anything we've had in the past. We will definitely return often."

"If you are looking for an Itailian restaurant with lots of pasta choices, this is not your place. However, the food was awesome, just not typical. Outdoor seating excellent. Close to the train station, so easy to get to and from if you are traveling from a different area."

"We took a friend from out of state, with no doubt she would love the food. It was a lovely warm evening, and we had a relaxed, delicious dinner outside. It exceeded our already high expectations. The beet pasta was fantastic! No matter when we've been, Donato's has had exceptional food and service."

"We all (4) thought our various lunch antipasti and salads were creative and tasty but thought the entrees were just OK. The first waiter took our drink order and never fulfilled it. The second waiter provided menus and did not come back. The third waiter was asked to leave a spicy compote off a plate but insisted, twice, that it be included on a side dish. It was served properly. It turned out that the reason for three waiters was that the 3rd one had showed up late."

"Well it had to happen, this is my favorite restaurant, but the service at Easter dinner was horrible. This was more imbarassing to me because I brought two other couples in our party that had mever been there before. Four of us ordered the prix fix menue and the waiter completely skipped the pasta course. When he delivered our main courses, he explained that the course was no lomger available. When the chack arrived he charged us for 5 prix fix dinners but we had only ordered 4. We pointed this out to him and he corrected the check. I have always had great service at Donato Enoteca and will continue to dine there, this is not the same for the other two couples who said they probably would not dine there again."

"As always, an amazing visit. Do NOT order a la carte, but show up hungry and get the "small" tasting menu (don't worry, you will leave stuffed!). Make sure to arrive well before 9pm as that is the cutoff time for tasting menus. Ask the chef to surprise you and you will be in for an epic multicourse extravaganza that includes wildly off-menu items. Place never gets old. 3"

"Donato Enoteca is understated and you naturally settle in to a delightful dining experience. Regular dishes like gnocchi and the beet ravioli are prepared and presented in unique and appealing ways. The pace of service was never rushed, but casually attentive. We met family over the holiday and spent three hours sharing wine with our meal. The desserts follow in step with unique and eye-catching presentation. The last bite is as good as the first and you will want to enter Donato Enoteca in your contacts list for the next time you need a reliable destination to focus on other things."

"I have had great experiences from Donato Enoteca in the past. Great food, great wine selection, and attentive service. This is genuine Italian food of quality cooked with passion and pride. However, on busy holidays or special events like Valentine's it has an impersonal and disorganized mass market feel which makes me think the culinary experience has taken a backseat to making money. When I leave feeling like the dinner was just an business arrangement rather than a great experience I have to question why I should return. Having said that I will give Donato another chance, hoping for a better experience."

"One of our favorite 'posh' neighborhood restaurants... Excellent food, great service, comfortable ambiance. When the restaurant is busy the noise level tends to be too high to carry on a conversation (especially as the tables are very close together) - but you just have to know when to go there to avoid the crowds :-). We will definitely be back again... and again... and again..."

"We celebrate a friend's birthday at Donato Enoteca with a birthday lunch. There were 7 of us, we asked for a quiet room/table and got it. Our waiter was most attentive!
Food was delicious as well as nice presentation. All of us had a great time and will return."

"While we love Donato Enoteca, the last two times we have arrived at the restaurant there has been a confusing wait to be seated, even with reservations, and most of the tables empty. There is no waiting area and this adds to the poor experience. They ought to be able to get their act together on this part of the dining experience."

"I was looking for a resturant in redwood city to take my mom for her 83rd birthday.

"Even though we had a reservation with Open Table, hostess was confused when we arrived and we had to wait while later arrivals were seated . She finally got her act together and seated us. Food was very good. Waitress average to poor. Bus boy was excellent. We will try this place again and hope the service evens out."

"Food was excellent. service was fine . The only complain I have is the chair. We were seated in a nice quiet corner in the back room, which was exactly what I requested. The chair there does not have enough support and feel a bit uncomfortable after awhile."

"We drive by Donato Enoteca quite often and have wanted to try the restaurant since we moved to the area a year and half ago. Our meals were reasonably priced and yet, very delicious and beautifully presented. All staff members (not just those assigned to our table) were attentive and personable. The atmosphere was very active, but the noise level was not so high that we had to yell to have a casual conversation. All aspects of our dinner were great and we had a wonderful evening. We regret that we hadn't take the opportunity to try Donato Enoteca sooner and look forward to making it one of regulars (ie.,not always a need to drive over to University Ave)."
