"We don't live in the area, but visited last year and were impressed by St. John's. Dinner this trip was even better, and we highly recommend this restaurant. Upscale yet historic ambiance. Service was excellent and knowlegable. Every item we had, from the amuse bouche to dessert, was superb -- beautifully presented, skillfully prepared, and delicious. Can't wait to return!"

"The staff was awesome, the food was delicious... the makings for a wonderful evening. We had the scallops w/ grapefruit and radishes and the potato/ramp/lobster soup for starters. I can't say enough good things about either dish. Both were just perfect. Zabuton Steak and the Pork Tasting were also delicious. The sausage on the pork tastings could become a meal in and of itself! We look forward to our next visit."

"We celebrated an anniversary dinner there with another couple. It was great. The service was fabulous and they acknowledged our special occasion with a mid course treat from the chef. Our food was delicious and the ambience is great. St. John came highly recommended as we are from out of town. We will for sure go back there next time we are in town. It was the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion."

"Awesome experience at St John's Saturday night. It's easy to see why it maintains the reputation as the finest dining experience in Chattanooga. Beef Tartare was a surprisingly generous appetizer, Antelope and Leg of Lamb dinners were out of this world. And the service was perfect - gracious, prompt, refill the wine but without hovering."

"My wife and I went to st John's for our anniversary. The food was excellent. I ate the bacon and eggs for my first course and it was awesome. My second course was a seasonal special with a N Y strip and short rib. Both were prepared excellent. Our waiter was very patient and gave excellent suggestions. I would l love to go again."

"We've dined at St. John's several times and it has always been oustanding. This time was no different. We had cocktails to start, both of which were wonderful. We started with raviola and a salad. For mains, I had venison and my wife had halibut. That was followed by ice cream and brownie for dessert. Food was perfectly prepared, with lovely temperature, texture, and taste. All food was plated well and served at a nice pace. We paired it with a great Chateauneuf-du-pape. The waiter was attentive, but unhurried and we had time to enjoy the meal. We dine out a lot around the country and I would rate St. John's as an excellent experience and good value. Great choice for anyone in Chattanooga!"

"St. John's rivals the best in New York but stays true to its Tennessee roots. It has only improved each of the five times I've been here since 2008. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great dining experience. Prices are high by Chattanooga standards but would be extremely reasonable in, say, New York. The menu emphasizes locally raised produce, meats and fish treated inaginatively and artfully presented. The menu identifies the provenance of many ingredients: by county, district, farm or ranch. Service was impeccable with our waitress helpfully explaining certain dishes. The staff displayed that natural Southern friendliness and charm that characterize Chattanooga and make it such an endearing place to visit."

"St. John's is a favorite restaurant and my wife and I, who live 50 miles away, go there several times a year. It never disappoints. The selection of mains is fairly small but changes fairly often so there is never a 'been there done that' feeling. The fois gras rivals that I've had in the Dordogne. Wherever possible their ingredients are local and organic. I know some of the farmers involved in their supply chain and they are very good choices. It's a bit pricey but well worth it. The chef has managed to maintain a very high level of quality over a number of years and that's something very rare in a restaurant."

"Anniversary dinner worked out great with the ambience and pleasant service. Chef even sent something special to celebrate our anniversary. Ordered lamb leg, came with yucca,sauteed bells peppers &onion on spinach bed; my hun had pork chops...everything blended so well and portions were just right. BTW- Best experience eating yucca (normally dont) &the sauce was one of a kind. Had read good reviews online, didn't disappoint. Great server...thanks Misty."

"We always have such a great time at St. John's. My sister and I bring our husbands there every Valentine's Day. They look forward to it all year. The food was outstanding and our server(Ahley M. according to my receipt) was awesome so informative and so efficient. She was knowledgable about the menu and shared when asked. The food was prepared perfectly even my well done steak which some restaurants refuse to do. We were upstairs and the snow was falling it was a perfect experience and it's closeness to the Tivoli works out perfectly to follow up with Big Band Fever."

"We visit Chattanooga often but, this was out first time @ St Johns. We had been hesitant to try it as, we had heard that it could be pretenous.
It wasn't. The service (Megan) was fantastic & the food was....well....amazing! He had the venison, gorgeously cooked to perfection, huckleberry sauce amazing, I had the chicken. Yes, I know what one might think...chicken? But oh my! It was exquisite! The portions were good sized (I couldn't eat all mine but it wasn't b/c it wasn't wonderful - just alot) he actually considered licking his plate! Ha! Prices were reasonable not outrageous, wine list extensive, beer selection minimal. If there was a negative, it would have to be the decor - clean but not very "warm." Will def return :)"

"Always love going to St. John's as you know it will be a fine dining experience! No matter how full the restaurant is, the waiters are always attentive and timely with each course of the meal. I never feel rushed or put aside. They truly know their food and menu and always make excellent suggestions. I've never had a bad meal at St. John's!"

"Excellent meal,great service ,perfect for special occasion, which it was. Good wine selection. First time for us to go there and was exactly as advertised. Portions were just right. Server was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. We would recommend it to our friends.
Only negative comment that certainly is not the fault of the restaurant. We parked across the street. It was dark and raining when we pulled into a parking lot that had a sign indicating "public parking". It was poorly lit and there was a poorly visible payment box ( which we did not see) , so after a great meal, we had a parking bill attached to the car with a fine of $10. The restaurant was so good,we would go again anyway. We were from out of the state."

"Dinner at St. John's restaurant for my 10th wedding anniversary was splendid.As my wife and I arrived, the hostess sat us immediately, welcoming us for our anniversary (which I had included in my comments when making my OpenTable reservation!).The hostess escorted us to the best table in the house, a romantic table upstairs by the window, the only window seat in the place!She also took our coats, a nice touch on a cold night.Our server arrived quickly and took our drink orders from the extensive menu. We were impressed with the great food, great atmosphere, and great service.St. John's is a place you take your significant other.As we looked around there were 7 other couples out doing the same thing we were, enjoying fabulous food!RECOMMEND!"

"Made res. in Jan for Valentine for a party of 8 for 1900. We arrived at 1855, but a table was not ready until 1940. I never had to wait at any upscale restaurant in the world as we waited here. We (party of 8) had ate here for New Year Eve night and it was great (ranks up to restaurants in ATL. & NYC.) Food on Valentine lacked it usual intentness."

"The food was great, but they sat me next to the kitchen. They offered to move me, but stayed where I was seated. The part I dined was a little outdated and the seating arrangement was odd. There was a little to much traffic back and forth and carrying stuff by to really enjoy the fantastic meal. I really didn't mind the commotion because the food really shined!"

"The service was good, the food was incredible and the environment of the restaurant was very relaxed and romantic. A very interesting old building that had a twist of modern decor. We wished we could have stayed longer but since we had late (9pm) reservations we knew it wouldn't be polite to stay longer than an hour and half or so. We really enjoyed our time and had one of the best meals."

"Excellent. Simply a wonderful experience. One of few times I felt like I truly "got what I paid for". The food, service, and ambiance was better than I had hoped and expected. Even on Valentine's Day weekend (when one would expect an unusually busy time), the staff had our table ready and waiting precisly at our reservation time, with the flowers I'd brought earlier placed as if we were the only two in the restaurant. Thanks for providing a top notch experience in our city, the city is better for it.

"A special occasion restaurant with 5 star service and food. Everything on the menu is delectable, you can not go wrong. Foods are usually flown in fresh that day and one can tell by the complimenting cacophony of flavors. Service is intelligent, gracious and very accommodating. Attire does not require coat and tie, much to my surprise. A couple of two can expect to spend a total of typical $120 including the 20% gratuity. First course on menu are optional. Desserts are extraordinary with robust flavors. One can find gift cards at Costco worth $100 for $70 or so, discounted. Overall, well worth the price. One was made to feel instantly welcome at the door. Reservations are recommended."
