Matt’s Red Rooster Grill is a contemporary American bistro paying homage to a wood fired grill that “brings out the best flavors” of traditional American cuisine, reinvented creatively. A CIA (Hyde Park) graduate, Chef Matt McPherson stays true to his local roots integrating the finest seasonal ingredients, sourced from local family farms & day boat fisherman into his unique dishes. "My son took me for Mother's Day and we thoroughly enjoyed the food, ambience and service. I ate from the price-fixe and the beet and goat cheese salad was delicious. The cod stuffed with crab was wonderful and the bread pudding topped with vanilla ice cream was so good that my son was digging in also. We will definitely return again and also recommend Matt's Red Rooster Grill to others."

"We have been going to Matt's for years now. It is our special place to dine when we want really great food. We recently celebrated our 25th anniversary along with our sons turning 21 & 18. It was a no brainer to book 'our table' at Matt's. We wanted something special for dessert and what they put together was spectacular!! It was a white platter that was decorated with chocolate writing around the edge highlighting our special occasions with beautifully delicious petite desserts in the center. The portions are very generous!! The cooking is out in the open and that creates a nice vibe. The wait staff is very professional and personable. We are always greeted warmly which sets the tone for the evening. You will not be disappointed!!"

"We have never had less than an excellent meal at Matt's and Saturday was no exception. From the grilled shrimp appetizer to the outstanding rib eye and blue cheese encrusted filet and the key lime pie, everything was as we've come to expect from Matt's - delicious. The service was also excellent. We will be back."

"We were pleasantly surprised by Matt's Red Rooster. The menu was so diverse that we had some difficult pleasure in limiting our selections, knowing we would have to come back to try others. The service and ambiance were very good, notable for attentiveness of the servers and we liked the upstairs dining by the window. Unfortunately the food sounded better than it was, as the appetizers were somewhat blander than we expected and one of the main entree steaks was practically burned to a crisp despite being ordered "medium". The side dishes and deserts were fabulous."

"My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Our selections were delicious and generous. I had the soup sampler for an appetizer. My husband enjoyed his oysters. For my entree I had the pork tenderloin with pineapple coconut sauce which was a great combination of flavors. And the vegetables were cooked just right. My husband had the crabmeat stuffed cod. And for dessert we shared the key lime tart.

"My wife and I and our friends went to Matt's on 5/2/13. Our friends choice as they had been there before several times. It was with the 45 minute ride. I had the tuna and vegetables. Done perfectly. Salad was just right. My wife had the Trout special stuffed with crab meat. She was delighted. She loved it but could not finish it because the portion was very generous. Our friends had the Lobster Tail and Pork. All enjoyed their meal. Good wine list. Old building done well inside. I like restaurants where you can look into the kitchen. Would go there again definitely. Server was knowledgeable and added to our evening. Never felt rushed."

"A superb dinner. The grilled avocado stuffed with crab and lobster is extraordinary. As were the soft shell crabs. The ribs were really good, but the sauce is a bit on the sweet side for my taste. I prefer some fire. Matt's is consistently excellent and we think it is the best restaurant in this area. Love going there and looking forward to the warmer weather so we can eat on the porch or patio!"

"Went here on recommendation. It was a good restaurant but nothing extra special. We had two appetizers - flatbread and ABC. The flatbread was okay. The topping was delicious but the bread part could have been better. The ABC was excellent - A grilled avocado filled with crab (and lobster on this night) topped with bacon. Yum! For dinner we had BBQ ribs and stuffed griggstown chicken. There was plenty of food. One rack of ribs was not all that tender. The other was perfect. The chicken was perfect. Dessert was excellent - bread pudding (did not care for the topping of cherry compote though) and we were given an on the house dessert due to the ribs not being edible. It was the chocolate cake which was heavenly!"

"Matt's Red Rooster is a great find, fabulous menu with a nice variety of dishes. My friend and I shared 2 appetizers, the chicken and waffles and the grilled flatbread and they were both really delicious. The chicken was a nice portion of pulled bbq chicken piled on top of a tiny waffle served with delicious coleslaw on the side -- definitely different! The flatbread was also yummy, with a variety of sweet and savory flavors and it was fairly large. We both had the grilled romaine salad and we loved it. Then since we weren't still super hungry, the server suggested we split an entree and so we split the pork tenderloin entree and it was delicious and the portion was perfect. Our server and all the staff were very gracious. Go!"

"Outstanding for people with special dietary needs. You'd never know I had a substitute dressing on their signature dish. I've found this is a consistent feature for my friend who can't have seeds, and my sensitivity to black pepper. Everyone that serves your table knows about your allergies and checks to be sure you are having the appropriate dish.
Most of other restaurants will offer grilled chicken/fish with no sauces and steamed vegetables. The quality of the food is so good that I ate the entire salad when I usually skip them.
Chef is a real pro. Hope he stays in the neighborhood a long time. Wait staff is professionally trained and you can see the difference."

"After the waiter taking our drink order and bringing them over we didn't see him again for 20 minutes. We had to ask the hostess to get him so that we could give him our food order. When the hostess told him we were asking for hi, he rolled his eyes. Matt's was participating in Restaurant Week and only had 1 waiter downstairs. Completely understaffed!!"

"We really enjoyed the fixed price dinner at Matt's on April 4th. We haven't done this before and we will go again. The Shrimp cocktail was delicious and our steaks were grilled perfectly. "The food and service were excellent. The restaurant website indicates "business casual attire" for guests but the servers were dressed quite casually. We were there early and the noise level was not too bad but one can see how it can get quite loud there. A bit pricey but they deliver on the food quality. Adequate parking.
Based on the food quality, I would recommend this restaurant."

"Our second dinner there and nearly as good as the first. Was it just us or was the grilled Romaine different this time? We didn't remember it being covered with shredded cheese and having so much dressing before. LOVED the stuffed poblano pepper. Wonderful tuna entree and NY Strip (with the requested blue cheese crust)."

"We were looking for a "snack" after Good Friday services at around 9:00. So decided to visit Matt's for some salads/appetizers. They were very busy and I started to feel a bit guilty taking up a table when we really did not want a meal, but was relieved when several tables opened up a few minutes after we arrived.
We split the grilled romaine and had an appetizer each. Perfect for a late evening snack. Excellent as always."

"Matt's had a 4 course lobster tail dinner special this week that was both a great value and awesomely good. One of our guests chose the dry aged steak and said it was the best he had ever had. If you haven't already, go online and sign up for Red Rooster's email specials. They are hard to beat. We always enjoy the creative pairings that Matt puts together!"

"If I wasn't meeting a friend from out of town and if I had other options, I probably would have left after entering the place. It was incredibly loud. That aside, the server and food were both very good. He was very patient and let us close the place down. Would I go back? Probably not because of the noise and we both had to shout to hear each other."

"Service and food were outstanding. My girlfriend had the seafood special. The twin lobster tails were perfectly cooked and very succulent. She had the New England Chowder and I had the Rustic Mushroom soup. Both were extremely flavorful and the portions just right. I had the KC Strip steak as my main course. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare on the bone and cut like butter. We've been to Matt's several times and it remains a Home Run for Flemington. We can't wait for our return trip !"

"Matt's is probably the best of the local restaurants in Flemington. A converted home, the restaurant has atmosphere with its open kitchen located on the first floor. Food is very good, with large portions. Prices are high which makes Matt's more of a special occasion destination. BYOB helps keep the total bill down. Desserts are OK. Service is excellent."
