Sbrocco is Des Moines’ best one stop shop for all things wine. We are a neighborhood restaurant, wine bar, and wine shop where friends can come together and enjoy the best things in life: great wine, great food, and great company in an informal, yet sophisticated setting. We created a restaurant that would emphasize fresh and local foods carefully prepared and matched with excellent wines and terrific service. Andrew Meek of Sage and Sbrocco are joining forces to create the best food and wine experience in Iowa!
"I've been to Sbrocco before and it has always been a very reliable place to find a new wine, have good conversation with friends, and relax. My experience this past week was outstanding! My group ordered the cheese plate as an appetizer and had nice proportions with a couple new cheeses since the last time I visited. The bread was warm and we were given ample time to choose our main entrees. The entrees were superb and the best presented and tasting since I've been to Sbrocco, kudos!! To top the night off, the group shared a caramel bread pudding and sorbet that were divine! Very vibrant and fresh tasting!"

"Great little Bistro, probably not priced for most who just want to "grab" dinner. For "special occasion" this is perfect. Food was awesome, the wife loved her wine. On the down side the bartender couldn't mix a drink to save her life."

"Food was very good, wine was amazing per the recommendation of the very knowledgable server who asked all the right questions. Took a few minutes to be seated as there wasn't anyone at the host point when we walked in. Other than that, service was great and the food was amazing!"

"We were disappointed. The apple/leek vichyssoise was great, and so was the scallop small plate. The chicken skewers were well seasoned and the steamed vegetables were good. But the lamb was tasteless, the salads ordinary, and the ambience not lively. The wines in our wine flights weren't great either, although we enjoyed the Australian and Californian Sauvignon Blancs."

"Food was reasonably good and creative, but portion sizes relative to cost are extremely underwhelming. The house salad is $9 and arrives as moderately size heap of lettuce, some strawberries, pecans, and three small drops of goat cheese. Rest of the dishes are much the same."

"Sbrocco is a neat little Wine Bar on Court Avenue that has a very good wine list and an excellent menu. We have lived in the Des Moines area for many years and never got around to eating at Sbrocco. We really enjoyed Sbrocco - the wine, food and ambiance."

"I think Sbrocco is one of the best places for a couple to share a table, dine light on enticing small plates and entrees, and enjoy a bottle of wine and conversation."

"Overall we were actually quite pleased. The lamb was very well-prepared and seasoned with interesting spices that provided just the right kick. The duck was beautiful, rich, and fall-off-the-bone delicious. The sole reason I'm giving Sbrocco only a good score is the demi-glace that was served with the duck. The reduction resulted in a salty--I mean really oversalted, inedibly salty--sauce. Because the duck was plated on roasted vegetables, the sauce pooled at the bottom of the plate and I could largely eat around it. Sides and desserts were fine. The atmosphere is quirky-nice although because of the layout, quite a few tables are basically in the bar. The service was efficient but more casual that you typically get with this type of menu."

"Under the new chef, Andrew Newberg, the food was a bit hit and miss but showed great potential. The beef tenderloin mused the mark, but the steak fries was good. We were slightly disappointed that the menu was more limited than what we found on the website."

"The new chef at Sbrocco does not disappoint. The muscle appetizer was fab ulous. Great place to bring out-of-towners to show them what Iowa dinning has to offer."

"We really enjoyed our dinner and wine before a performance at the Civic Center just 2 blocks away. It was great for a special occasion since our bill was $100 for an appetizer, bottle of wine and 2 entrees. Our waitress Laura was very friendly and helpful. The wine manager was also helpful when we had questions. He even gave us samples to try before we committed to a bottle. We would love to go there again to try their summer menu."

"Interesting, innovative menu. Friendly, knowledgable server. Interior had been renovated since the last time I had visited, creating a much warmer, more welcoming atmosphere. Food was well-prepared and delicious. Just one picky gripe. Several of the items we ordered did not arrive as described on the menu. Example: My pork loin was to have been accompanied by a shredded brussels sprouts and bacon side, which sounded intriguing. Instead, it arrived with plain sauteed broccolini. Not terribly creative but acceptable. I just wish the server had informed me when I ordered ... particularly since the restaurant was empty when we arrived and she told us it had been a very slow night. Clearly they had not just run out of brussels sprouts."

"We went there for the first time for a light dinner before the theatre. We ordered scallops and prawns, both arrived cold and only partially cooked. It also took nearly 20 minutes for our server to take our drink order. This was largely due to her focus on the couple next to us who had an issue with their food and asked for it to be replaced. We won't be back."
