You will feel as if you've traveled back in time to Old Italy. Tanino Drago grew up in a small town in Sicily. His father made the family's wine, cheese and olive oil. His mother made the fresh pasta and bread. Tanino it seems was destined to master the art of fine Italian cuisine. He worked at his uncle's trattoria and studied at the Giarre Culinary School. It all comes together beautifully at Tanino's in Westwood. The Renaissance-style building was designed by Paul Williams and built in 1929.
"Tanino's is a restaurant we return to again and again. We've been going there for over 10 years and it continues to be excellent with good menu, lots of good specials, wonderful wines, professional service, and service is NOT slow."

"I took my girlfriend here for her birthday, and we both really enjoyed our time. The food was awesome. The service was quick and welcoming. The atmosphere was rustic in a romantic sort of way. The chef seemed to know several regulars and walked around greeting people in a familiar way. Everyone was very friendly and made it feel like we were eating at an old friend's house. Our server and the hostess are also to be commended for a job well done. We were seated right away and promptly received our food shortly after ordering. I would definitely return here in the future."

"What a disappointment, the Bronzino $39.00 dry and flavor, and instead of a nice fillet after deboned it he showed us something that looked close to mash potatoes lots of bones ( someone please teach them how to debone an expensive fish)we asked for DECAFF coffee and for sure was not. Even asking specific for decaff, I know because not only I couldn't sleep but also I feel it in my heart beat, The soups one came burning and the other one very cold. The waiter came to the table twice one when we got there and when we asked for the check, the place was empty is not that he was to busy, The only reason that I still recomend the place is because in the past was basically a good place to eat. No wonder was empty"

"What a beautiful little restaurant! Three of us wanted a new place to dine before going to the Geffen Theatre. One of us found Tanino's on-line; their website didn't lie. Not only is the ambiance old-world reminiscent, but the service was just the right combination of attentive and friendly. And the food? Well, unfortunately, we only had about an hour to eat, so all of us opted for only a main course. One was a shrimp & crab-stuffed ravioli dish, with a champagne sauce. Two of us had pasta a la carbonara and in my not-so-humble opinion, it was the best carbonara I have ever tasted. All of the portions were surprisingly generous. Our waiter kept an eye on us throughout the meal and made sure we were out in plenty of time. Bravo!"

"Overall good experience. We arrived on the early side but the restaurant was quite full within a half hour. At that point it was rather warm and noisy. The food was quite good and well presented and the service prompt so I would recommend it. A good choice if you have tickets to the Geffen Playhouse."

"Although we had an enjoyable evening at Tanino, overall the food was underwhelming. One of our dishes (the risotto) was overcooked and mushy. Another dish was significantly underseasoned. The servers asked the table if we wanted parmesan on our pasta, but then didn't come by to grate parmesan on everyone's dish."

"Tanino's has been a favorite for many years. The menu is broad, the food prep creative and delicious and the presentation lovely. The service is very efficient but not hovering. Tanino's is our first choice for first class Italian food."

"Greatly enjoyed our after theatre early dinner at Tanino. Our water was knowledgeable, efficient and attentive. Our meal was delicious-special salmon dish and a salmon in vodka sauce pasta. We'll definitely be back."

"This is not the type of place you go to every day. This is true in the sense that it is expensive, especially for Italian food. This is also true in the sense that there are few other eating establishments that can match the experience here. The interior is designed in a way that complements the luxury of the food. The oil and vinegar served with the bread at the beginning is of the highest quality. Their risotto and cured meat dishes are equally so. The prices, however, match the quality of the food. So expect to pay for your experience."

"This is a consistently reliable, lovely restaurant with excellent menu options and daily specials. The food/wine list are not inexpensive, though there is reasonable value for the cost, especially considering the quality of the food. Service is always pleasant, professional and non-intrusive and Tanino honors its reservations."

"Really Wonderful food and very attentive service. Everyone in our group of 7 loved every single dish and we all ordered something different so that tells you how good their food really is. Will definitely visit again soon!"

"My wife & I had a meeting at UCLA and were looking for a place near campus for v-day dinner. We realized a restaurant near college campus could be hit or miss, however, judging by the prices assumed Tanino would have some quality. WRONG. We started off with the special appetizer, lobster bisque @ $16/each. The dish was completely bland and barely had any taste. I also asked for a glass of sangiovese and they brought me a cheap chianti. I would have rather they told me they didn't have a specific blend and only chianti. Lastly, ordered 2 pasta dishes (pumkin ravioli and fettucine). Asked for a side of italian sausage to no avail and dishes were again bland. Not worth $100 for 2 people, should be much less given the poor quality."

"This really is a lovely restaurant. High, decorative ceilings, warm atmosphere. A bit of Italy. We typically go there before theatre as it is so convenient to park and walk from there to the Geffen. The Branzino was great. My husband enjoyed the special pasta with shrimp and langostino. The Italian tomato/bread soup was good--not particularly special, though. But we had no complaints. They are very good at getting you served and out in time for curtain time. We will be back."

"It's fun to rediscover a wonderful place. Due to 405 construction we have been unable to enjoy Tanino's, but we have forged ahead and it has been worth the travel time. Service was a bit slow last night, but food fabulous. Another great evening."
