Consistently excellent, this East Village gem is known for innovation and excellence in Roman cuisine. While Chef Salvatore Corea creates a seasonal menu, partners Alessandro Peluso and Giusto Priola note that Cacio e Pepe remains faithful to its signature namesake dish: home-made pasta brought to your table and spun in a wheel of pecorino cheese, then dusted with a flourish of pepper. Voted a ‘Critic’s Pick’ by New York Magazine, Cacio e Pepe is celebrated by reviewers as a classic Italian restaurant with a sense of style: A 50-seat garden is set behind the main dining room, there is al-fresco dining out front, and waiters with superior wine knowledge help you select the perfect beverage accompaniment to your meal. The mystery remains whether it is the garden, the cuisine, or the service which lifts Cacio e Pepe above and beyond its peers on the NYC restaurant scene. The answer, however, may best be expressed in French: It has that je ne se qua.
"We have been to Caccio e Pepe many times, especially for their signature dish: Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe (homemade tonnarelli pasta tossed in pecorino cheese with black peppercorns). But based on the quality of a recent visit, we plan to dine here more often. The service is always friendly and efficient. The summer menu includes a salad and two pastas which were excellent: Baby Spinach Salad, Watermelon, Goat Cheese & Toasted Almonds; Artichoke Ravioli, Parmesan Cream, Ginger & Lime; and Homemade Fettuccine with Cantaloupe, Port Wine, Mint, Parmesan, Touch of Cream. If you haven't tried Cacio e Pepe, then do your tastebuds a favor and try it soon--it's a lot cheaper and quicker than a trip to Rome!"

"Hidden neighborhood oasis; tastefully landscaped garden setting in the back of the restaurant with lush green bushes, trees and flowers; delicious Italian food; romantic hide-away on a balmy summer night"

"My review would have been higher had it not seemed as though we were rushed through our $400 dinner. We reserved and confirmed a 10pm reservation. And yet when we arrived the staff was less than thrilled to be seating at 10pm and as other patrons finished we just began our meal and the staff cleaned around us. The food was excellent and despite the initial negativity the staff was pleasant during our meal - although they cleaned around us. Would have been nice not to feel rushed. If the restaurant prefers to not begin new service past 10pm - they should not accept reservations so late. Food was excellent otherwise!"

"affordable with great food. The signature dish is a must and totally delicious. I went with 2 friends this time - we split a caprese salad, and ordered the lasagna along with the cacao e pepe. It was plenty without feeling stuffed. We shared a dessert. A good go-to and I will return!"

"I've been here a couple of times and the food is just okay and expensive. The eggplant parm is good. It gets very crowded on Saturday nights so make a reservation. Also the garden in the back is nice."

"The food was delicious. Service was a bit spotty, but perhaps intentionally so, to let us breathe a bit. Wine list was small, but covered the basics. Incredible music selection."

"Great restaurant, great food. I was visiting NYC and didn't want to venture outside of the neighborhood for dinner. This was a perfect spot. My only complaint is that the server did not tell us about the house special, but we kept seeing it being delivered to tables and it looked absolutely yummy so I felt that we had missed out on a great dish so I definitely recommend asking what they are known for and their most ordered dish."

"Our group ended up staying until closing and we didn't know it was closed because the staff still took care of us and made sure we had all we need. I was very satisfied with the quality of the food and wine."

"Overall the restaurant was good. Not exceptional, but everything we ordered was good. The only factor that was disappointing was that we were seated next to a rather loud group (two/three couples. And, that didn't make the dining experience very pleasant. If not for the noise from the table next to us the expereince was great. Thank you."

"Very good food and consistent quality make Cacio e Pepe one of our local favorites. There are other Italian restaurants that offer more elaborate fare, but CeP never fails to satisfy. Try the eponymous Cacio e Pepe for a real treat."
