Ichiban Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar – Minneapolis
Ichiban features the 5000 year old method of Japanese cooking where chefs skillfully prepare the dinner at your table. "Iron cooking" or Teppanyaki is the heart of our cuisine. Our Teppanyaki chefs are wizards of the knife, each with their own style and showmanship. Ichiban also features an all you can eat for one hour sushi bar every night of the week. A full bar is available with beer, wine, liquor and sake. The main floor is handicap accessible, so please request if needed. Happy hour specials are available Monday thru Friday in the bar. Enjoy specials on beer, wine, sake and several appetizers and types of sushi in a quiet atmosphere. We also have Early Bird specials, including a discount on the sushi bar every day of the week and discounts on Teppanyaki meals Sunday through Friday. All special deals are from 4:30 to 6:00pm.
Reservations are only for teppanyaki and are not available in the sushi bar.

"Very accommodating at host/check-in, great drink service at table however our chef didn't interact with us. We also asked if Happy Birthday could be sung to our birthday girl (as we watched at a near-by table) and we were told "no". Our table totaled over $1300 and we were disappointed our birthday song request was denied."

"I reserved a table in advance and only had about a 5 minute wait time when we arrived. The upstairs level is a great place to sit, much more quiet and further from the bar which can be quite packed. Our chef was excellent - personable, funny, and kept us entertained through the entire service. I have had chefs at Benihana's that do a few tricks and then fizzle out, but you won't see that at Ichiban. It is definitely a great place for large groups unless you are comfortable sitting at a table with strangers. The food was delicious and the prices fit the quality. It was also my father's birthday and our waiter really gave us all an amazing surprise when he belted out the best version of "happy birthday" I have ever heard in a restaurant!"

"I've eaten at Ichiban's a few times and always had a very memorable, fun and delicious experience. This time, our chef was not as entertaining, the food was SUPER salty and not as flavorful as I remembered it. Don't get me wrong, it was GOOD. The Filet Mignon was divine! The Terriyaki Scallops have always been a favorite of mine. But for the expense? I'm not sure, for $35 per meal, I really don't want good, I expect to have my mind blown! The kids (13 year olds) did have a BLAST! And it is a great experience. We'll do it again, I'm sure."

"We made a reservation for 7:30 and were seated at the table by about 7:40 but didn't get drinks until 8 and then the first course until 8:15 and the chef didn't even begin at the grill until 8:30 or so. We ate about 9. Way too long. We didn't leave until after 9:30 because of the pacing of the meal."

"It's like going to the circus, being hustled for an upgrade, meeting more people, getting wonderful food the way you want it, especially the salmon. It really was wonderful, but costly, but my Wife and I enjoyed it."

"It was my birthday celebration and there were a few other birthdays being celebrate there. They did not do the same for each group, and I was unfortunate to get paired with people that did not try to make my day as special. The birthday next to us had a lot more things done for them. Overall the food was really good and I did have an overall good time, but was disappointed in the unfair treatment."

"I had an amazing experience at Ichiban. My girlfriend and I were celebrating our second anniversary
and needed a local place to spend a romantic dinner. I sent a request through OpenTable
and let them know we'd be celebrating our special date with them. When we entered the restaurant,
we were greeted by the waitstaff who congratulated us and led us over to our own table!
I had heard that only larger groups would get that experience, but we had our own personal
chef (Alex) who was funny, engaging, and made us a delicious dinner. I was very impressed and
so thankful for the staff making our night a little extra special!"

"Well it was my me and my boyfriend's 1yr anniversary and we had choosen this spot because we thought it would be a step up from Osakas and benihana but we were wrong. The food wasn't as good as either of those places. They didn't have much or a selection with the menu. The chef that we got had to be at least 60yrs old and he kept dropping stuff and getting everyone's order mixed up. He even took steak from anothers plate and placed it back on the grill where he continued to cook everyone else's food so unfortunetly we did not have a good time if fact the best part was talking with the others at the table making jokes about signing a wavier before sitting because the chef kept dropping things like knives and the sake bottle."

"We were seated for an hour and 10 minutes before our food arrived. Then we had to wait for our drinks and only one of the two drinks arrived. No originalality from the Japaneese chef at the table. By the time we were served we already watched the same presentation twice at the two tables next to us. Bland and boring comes to mind. Ichaban's has out lived it's reputation. Not impressed."

"Our dinner experience was fabulous! The atmosphere is exciting and entertaining, you can feel the good time that everyone in the place is having and it rubs off. "I have been to this restaurant several times over the last few years and it is quite obvious that the quality of food and overall experience has declined with each visit. There was nothing about the food that was memorable and I was a little put off by our chef and even the one at the table next to us who tried to "mimic" or "mock" a Japanese accent and use broken English, as if this authenticated the experience, especially when they were both obviously not Asian. The server was efficient and polite, but I have no need to go back."

"My partner and I were the only customers in the restaurant on Wednesdsy at 8:30. I wanted to ask the chef if if he was in training because he tossed a piece of our appetizer on the table saidhe would replace it and never did. During the course of the so called entertaining cooking he messed up several times. I'm not sure if we had come on an off day but this was not the Ichiban I know."

"We have been to Ichiban before and had great experiences, however, the chef we had on Friday night must have been brand new. He kept dropping his knives, and then decided not to do a show at all. He had egg shells in the fried rice, over seasoned everything so all the food was dripping with sauce. Our plates basically looked like soup, and the rice was almost not edible.

"Very entertaining and tasty food experience. Due to the format the selections are somewhat limited since everything is spectacularly cooked at the table. "This was probably my 5th or 6th time at Ichibans. I am never disappointed (food and presentation is always good), however, bringing my boyfriend for his first time, he didn't get a similar experience I had when I went the first time. The chefs are outstanding in their work, and while ours flipped this and that with great skill, he wasn't as talkative and funny as I have witnessed before. Thats part of the fun being at Ichibans. But overall had a good time and the food is always wonderful."

The Hibachi chef gave a decent show but was off a bit with a couple of his tricks. Have seen better grill shows at some competitors."

"Ichiban tends to be spendy however Su-Th they have an early bird dinner special that makes eating one of the combo plates $20 except for the one with all the seafood. Ends at 6 so make a reservation for 5 and each for a reasonable price. Of course chicken fried rice is extra, but with the money you're saving totally worth the up charge."

"Great food, but I felt very over priced compared to other Japanese grills I've been to. Our bill, with only one beer on it, was $122 for 2 people. The reason why it's so high is they charge $4 extra for fried rice, and $5-10 more for a different appetizer other than the chicken liver the meals come with."

"We had our first Ichiban experience when we celebrated our 10th Wedding anniversary and it was a great experience. I made a comment about it being our anniversary when making the reservations and they all congratulated us and made us feel special during our time there. We are excited to go back with a group of freinds."

"As always the restaurant is alive with excitement & flashing flames bringing ooohs and ahhs from the clientele. We had a great chef and he did well.
One thing that we noticed was the Filet Mignon was not really a filet at all, but a lesser cut that was in pieces when it came to the table. By slashing the heck out of the filet, it became kibbles. When served, it was all WELL DONE instead of what I ordered (which was MEDIUM). The price paid for the Filet Mignon is not worth it because you get a lesser cut of meat, and it is all slashed up and loses its taste. That was the most disappointing thing. Due to that, I will not be visiting the restaurant again.
I will, however, continue to visit the floating Sushi bar."

"The food was absolutely excellent and it was fun meeting other people at our hibachi table. Our chef was funny, but was not as good as other chefs in regards to a "show" with the food and utensils. I think he might have been new. It was a Monday night so my guess is they put some of the newer chefs on on that night - when it's not so busy. I will go back again though. The atmosphere is my favorite part. Although it was a little dark, it is beautifully decorated with lighted trees."
