"Waiter came right after being shown table. Brought menu and sacked if we wanted anything to drink. Told him and by time. Came back gave him our order. Asked whether or not we needed more time to figure out what we wanted and asked if we had any questions. All in all, a great dinner was was received and everything cooked perfectly."

"We were looking for a new place to take friends who were visiting and found Guglhupf online. The restaurant is tucked behind a few other stores and is truly a gem you stumble upon if you didn't know it was there. The food was outstanding with a nice selection of small plates & traditional dinner plates. The beer & wine selections were spot on with what the group was looking for. The dessert selection was ample and the chocolate sea salt ice cream with caramelized bananas was amazing. We look forward to going back when the weather is a bit warmer and eating on the patio!"

"Menu is a tad limited so make sure you take a look in advance. Oyster salad was very good, Market fish special just okay.For the only fish on the menu to be trout was a bit limited in my opinion. Staff was very nice but needed a little prompting on giving our table some attention. Atmosphere is electic and a tad haphazzard, more funky than nice."

"We went with friends and had a wonderful evening. The food is inventive. Pricing is adequate for a place of that caliber. The only fault I could find is that the wine list is very weak. If they want to make the restaurant just German, then the existing list with German, Austrian wines is OK. But since the restaurant is more than just German, some Spanish, French, Italian wines ought to be included."

"Fabulous evening! Everyone in my party of six found their meals delicious. The swordfish on a bed of asparagus was superb. We split three desserts and they were scrumptious as well. We dined outside and as the evening fell and the lights twinkled, we enjoyed the casual ambiance of Guglhupf and continued attentive service from their staff."

Guglhupf, however, delivers. Excellent food, neat architecture and decor, fabulous service. The menu is small, but I like it because it makes selection easy. Anything on there, I assure you, will be marvelous. I thoroughly enjoyed the rib eye that I ordered, and dessert was spectacular also.
I'm also an avid beer-drinker and a fan mostly of German brews. If you're similar, than Guglhupf can be even better.

"This was our first time to the Guglhupf. It was a bit too cold for outdoor dining but it appeared that they had a open space for warm weather dining. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable of the history to the building, etc. The food was very good and portions more than ample. While some of the entrees and other items are similar to what you would find in Germany, the restaurant does take an ecletic approach, but it all works well!
We enjoyed the restaurant enough to stop back the next day to have lunch. For a Wednesday, it was quite busy. Again the service was friendly and the food was very good."

"Great food! Great atmosphere. Not sure how "authentic" all the German food is, but the food was very good! Service was excellent and quick. We went before a show at the DPAC and had plenty of time (with a 5:30 reservation). I had the mussels as an app and the short ribs as my main course. I could only eat half the short ribs and the mussels i could of had as my main course. The hubs and I shared the dessert, the carrot cake which was to die for! So good. layers and moist and not overly rich. We will definitely be back!!!"

"We had a very lovely evening thanks to an attentive staff who made us feel right at home. Upon arrival the hostess was kind enough to give us a table farther away from the main entrance as that was originally the table we were going to be given. Thereafter our waitress was kind, informative by letting us know what the evening specials were. She gave us enough space to enjoy the romantic evening and enough service to let us feel as if we were being firmly attended to.Most importantly the food was fanastic! We ordered drinks, schnitzel and a chocolate tart dessert. The schnitzel was tender and perfectly seasoned. The potato gratin and vegetables were also made to perfection.Thanks for a lovely evening."

"I took my parents here for their birthdays. They are particular about their mixed drinks when they order them, and Guglhumpf delivered! My parents really enjoyed everything down from the drinks to dinner. Our wine was amazing. I wish we had been seated upstairs where there were more people, but we had a nice time overall. I wasn't too keen on my carrot cake, but I think it was just me. It was a bit sweat for me and I tasted more orange. I was hoping for a more cream cheese flavored icing too, but overall was okay. We'll be back!"

"This is our 2nd visit to Guglehupf. Hubby had the homemade sausage plate with the lentils and the kohlrabi slaw. This was very good. The lentils had a bit of spice/seasoning that really enhanced the flavor. I had the green salad & potato leek tart. SUPERB!! Perfect for a light supper or lunch. My only complaint is that the chocolate tarte was sold out...I was really looking forward to it. Guess we will have to return so I can experience that bit of decadence!!!
We would have liked to lingered and enjoyed another beer, relax and chill abit. Hubby had to pack for a 9am flight, so we will definately be back. This has become our fav spot for a night out!!"

"We go to Guglhupf for brunch often, but this is the first time we went there for dinner. As usual, the ambiance and the service is great. The starter came pretty fast and it was delicious! However, we had to wait for a long time for our main course - it was today's special - one fish dish and one meatloaf dish. The dishes were a bit too salty. We were a bit disappointed compared to our past experience with Guglhupf. My son's schnitzel from the kid's menu was the best of all the dishes we ordered. Nevertheless, we still love this place and will definitely go back there again."

"Outstanding German cuisine. Everything that our party of four ordered was outstanding; from the wine/beer to the freshly baked bread to the salads to the entrees to the deserts. And the menu items listed as "small plates" nearly qualify as main courses. If I was forced to find something to take issue with, it was the fact that the Weiner Schnitzel was pork instead of veal. But delicious none the less."

"I love the ambiance of this restaurant, but it took a really long time for our waitress to come to our table when we first arrived - and it wasn't all that crowded. Once we ordered, the food and wine came at a good pace, and we didn't feel neglected, but I could not figure out why they took so long to get us started. I had a good salad and a very good chicken entree. The wine was not very good. I will definitely go again and try ordering some other items. I am eager for it to be warm enough to enjoy eating outdoors - until it is too hot! :)"

"The first thing you notice is this is a very pretty restaurant. The service is very professional, but not too formal. The food is excellent. My husband and I were very impressed that this European restaurant had a number of very enticing vegetarian options - two entrees, a small plate, salads. The waiter even informed us without any prompting that the soup of the day was made with vegetarian stock. I got the soup and potato leek tart small plate and my husband got the noodles with sauteed vegetables and cream sauce. Our dining companions had the chicken and fish dishes. Everyone was very happy with the food - my husband and I shared our dishes and both were delicious, and we were told that the chicken and fish were also excellent."

"This was our first time eating dinner there, on a Tuesday, nice and quiet, wine specials and good portions. I like the small plates for those of us who do not eat a large meal and especially appreciated the fact that the hostess did not seat us at a table right next to the other few tables occupied. We really enjoyed all aspects of our experience and look forward to trying brunch and lunch, especially when it warms up and we are able to sit outside. Also, I like the information on web and booking procedure. Thank you Guglhupf."

"Overall a good place to eat for dinner. I had the wiener schnitzel, which was just right (but a little bland for my taste, but perhaps just right for German food), and my wife had the rib-eye which was tender and tasty. The sides (potatoes with mixed vegetables) were good and cooked just right. I also liked their beer menu, which was a mix of an extensive German selection and local breweries. The server was very knowledgeable about the beers and helped me make perfect selection to sample."

"We went to Guglhupf for our second consecutive Valentine's dinner. Since we hadn't been back between Feb 14 visits, we had forgotten just how good this place is. As a couple with no children, we dine out quite a bit, and we enjoy talking about our favorite places. This dinner reminded us of why Guglhupf should always be in the running for best overall restaurant experience in our half of the Triangle, Durham/Orange/Chatham.
The food really is outstanding, from the house-made charcuterie to the wiener schnitzel and creme brulee. The service is very low-key, but quite friendly and attentive--the service staff acts with an appropriate level of class that reflects the establishment.
