The famed New York City steakhouse evokes a retro environment in a modern way. Strip House is known for prime signature cuts of New York Strip Steak and Rib Eye charred to perfection. "The tables for two are smashed in really close to eachother - you will be able to hear everything the people on either side of you are saying, and they will hear you. Steak was delicious, but the sides left something to be desired. I don't see what all the fuss was about the duck fat potato side, it wasn't very good."

"We went for a birthday dinner and had an excellent time. Our waiter had an excellent personality and was very on top of things. I loved the lobster bisque and the steak I had. Our chocolate brownie dessert was fantastic. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fancy night out!"

"Everything was perfect. The food was great. The service friendly and attentive. It was a sunday night so it was quiet and you could carry on a conversation without shouting and the wine list was great. All in all a fine dining experience."

"The food was great! I read a lot of reviews before hand and never heard anything about the tables being so close together. That was one downfall and there wasn't as much intemacy b/c of the closeness. Made a reservation but still had to wait. It was an experience but probably wouldn't go back."

"steak with attitude is the best way to describe this restaurant.....great food....waiters trying to upsell at every opprtunity.........how about bottled waater, you are only sharing one 20 ounce steak for two? you aren't ordering potatoes? no ice cream? (with the 13 dollaar slice of chcocolate cake you ordered? A 7 dollar sharing charge is outrageous ....there are lots of other fabulous steak houses in this city......i would go to them........"

"Strip House is one of the better steakhouses in NYC. While they certainly do have delicious steaks, I think their sides are exceptional. It's a busy suit-and-tie business clientele. This is probably why our table of four was "shown the door" after a rushed meal because the servers prefer the bigger tips from the expense account tables. Service was rushed and spotty. The check arrived with dessert--a major no-no in my book."

"My husband and I went there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We've been meaning to go for a few years, ever since we read about it in a review by New York mag. We had early reservations so the place was pretty quiet when we arrived but as the night progessed I forgot that it was Tuesday night for a moment. The service was great. For our starters we had the garlic bread and the strip house bacon salad ( the bacon salad was my husband's idea) it was a great pick the mixing of the argula and bacon complimented each other well and went perfect with the garlic bread.
For dinner my husband had the NY strip the flavors just burst in your mouth it was delicious. I had the rib eye it was juicy, as if it melted in your mouth. We loved it!"

"I visited here a few years ago on my last trip to NY, so thought I would impress my wife on her 1st visit to the city and show off my local knowledge.

We arrived a few minutes early so had time for a drink at the bar and to soak up the atmosphere. We were show to our table on time, it was by the bar rather than in the main room where there seemed to be a bit more atmosphere. The steaks made up for this though, with some very tasty sides (try the fried onions).

All in all a very good meal and would return."

"We were seated promptly and the waiter took our drink and appetizer orders right away. I had the Beef jerkey, something I have never had for an appetizer. Very good, nicely seasoned and not too tough. The waiter brought us a sample of the mac n cheese and quite honestly was probably the best I ever had. The entree for me was the 16oz strip. A little undercooked but very delicious. My date had the petite filet which was huge and she loved it. We shared sides of the creamed spinach and green beans. Very good meal, great service and the ambiance was divine."

"Got there at 7:45 for an 8pm reservation, and didn't get seated until 9. When we finally did sit, it was in the lounge section, complete with overflow from the bar bumping into our chairs and elbows nonstop. As always, the food was was very good. Just need to work on that service."

"I booked a table here whilst myself and my girlfriend were visiting New York for a few days celebrating her 30th birthday. All I can say is...WOW! I have never ever had food like it(and I've eaten a lot!) The atmosphere in the restaurant was perfect, the service was excellent and the food was out of this world. I had the 16oz Filet Mignon and was blown away, cooked to perfection, i cannot praise it enough. I also recommend(as the waiter recommended to us) the Creamed Spinach and Goose fat potato. You will NOT be dissapointed. This meal definately helped make our trip to NY an amazing few days and when we return i will be returning to Striphouse 110%. You must go."

"I was expecting the 'best steakhouse in New York'. Well if this the best, steak in New York is very overrated. Don't get me wrong, the steak was very good albeit the lack of a peppercorn sauce. The main negative thing was that service was poor, at times it even appeared to be rude. For example, taking drink orders from myself and walking off before my wife even had a chance to say what she wanted. Also, the tables were so tightly packed next to each other that I could not eat if the waitress was taking orders from the next table."

"A great restaurant. you pay for the professionalism and ambiance. The food does not disappoint. We went for a birthday and had the 14 oz filet, the goose fat potatoes were delicious, the truffle buttered spinach and the chocolate brownie was great although they practically drowned the brownie and chocolate syrup. I would give the experience 4 stars and for 2 people with a good bottle of wine it came to just under $400 w. gratuity. I'd say well worth the whole experience."

"My fiancee and I unfortunately got the worst seat in the house, for this who have been there you would know which one it is - right at the entrance to the dining room (instead of a wall, I don't get it) so that every single person entering the restaurant walked within 6 inches of us, as well as every waiter and busboy coming out of the kitchen on the other side of us. Literally, we guessed that one person walked by our table every 3-5 seconds and and we had someone bump into our table at least once every few minutes.

Food was great, but I won't be going back - too many other great places in the city to try."

"The lobster bisque, as always, was amazing. The bone-in filet mignon was like "butta"! I always like the complimentary individual appetizer because it is always something different and something that I may not usually eat but is always a pleasant surprise. Our server helped us choose our meals and accommodated us with special requests, like making one of the steaks spicier. I've been here several times and I am never disappointed."

"A decent meal and very expensive. The maitre D was looking for a shmear when we arrived and had to wait for a table even though we were on time. Two other groups of four came in for a table with the exact same reservation time as we had and were and were seated. We eventually were seated in the bar area because of this. Maybe on a weeknight it's different. I will not return.There are many places in the city to get a good steak and still be treated well when you walk in the door."

"A well executed alternative to the iconic Peter Luger . The steak is almost as good, the sides are a clear winner, the ambiance is excellent and our service was supurb. The wine list was uninspired though containing only the usual suspects.

"Food was delicious, as always. However, we waited 45 minutes to be seated even with a reservation. They offered us a free round of drinks for the wait, but made a mistake on 2 of the 4 drinks we ordered.
If you have a reservation, I would still expect at least a 20 minute wait anytime you go on a Friday or Saturday night. Worth it for the steak and creamed spinach."

"Outstanding atmosphere and food, waiters eagerly encouraged over ordering which was the the only turn off, you take them at their word and end up with five uneaten side dishes. They actually told us we did order enough because the "sides are small". Come on, are they that hard up they need the extra $20 tip from !$100 worth of un needed food? "The New York Steak was OK, but the Fillet Mignon just the best I've ever had. Excellent texture, full aroma, neatly topped with garlic. And don't miss the truffled spinach!

The cheesecake misses something special. It's just heavy and sweet - nothing airy or fluffy. My personal reference at Tea House in Stanley Park / Vancouver BC could not be topped. The Crème brulée was good though."

"The steak was amazing! My date and I had the NY strip, one with bone in and one without. The mushroom side was OK but the goose fat potato was really good. Service could have been better. We found ourselves waiting for the server whenever we needed something."

"Very pleasant. Exactly what reviews had indicated. Spinach side is AMAZZZZZZZING. Strip steak and Filet were amazzzzing. Goose Potatoe side and Profitole dessert not really for me, but let me reitterate Spinach side is Amazzzzzing! Service was flawless, attentive, friendly, top-notch. Ambiance was great. I was expecting a better level of interior decor particularly the display of this vintage photography everyone talks about... but I am entirely biased as I am an interior designer. Great spot. Will go back."

"Went for pre theater arrived around 5pm and was seated immediately. Food was great got the 40oz porterhouse..so moist and tender..it melted in your mouth. left by 630 and made the theater in plent of time. Was nice cause it was away from the other pretheater chain restuarants. Was very romantic."

"I enjoyed Strip House, however I was expecting a little more. The steak was outstanding. However, the lobster bisque was extremely weak. I enjoyed the couches while waiting for our table. I thought the walls covered in pictures were kind of tacky. Our waiter was nice, but pushy. I feel like he was at our table the whole night. If prices were a little more fitting of the experience i.e. cheaper, I would recommend this restaurant. As is, I will say the night was enjoyable but there are better options."

"Came as a group of 6 celebrating a 25th wedding aniiversary and a birthday. The food was great and the waiter did a good job keeping our glasses full, reciting specials, making recommendations etc. We decided not to order dessert thinking that something would be brought out for the anniversary and birthday, but nothing ever came except for a verbal ackowledgement of the occasions from the waiter "happy bithday" and "happy anniversary". Ummm thanks but I didnt make note of it on the reservation for your best wishes! We sat down at 8:15 and by 9:45 after we declined dessert and paid the bill, they did everything short of put our coats on our backs and give us a swift kick to get us out. They even took wine off the table before we were done!!"

"My girlfriend and I went in before a Broadway show on Thursday night. The place wasn't crowded and the service was extremely attentive. We got the steak (duh, its a steakhouse) and I had the Filet 14 oz Oscar style. My GF had the 10 OZ filet. Both steaks were cut perfectly. Medium rare where the whole thing was pink at every level. We couldn't believe it. There is a good list of wines, and some fun cocktails on their menu.
I will go again on another special occasion. With a bottle of wine and a couple cocktails, the steaks, potatoes, and the wonderful Lobster Bisque, our bill was $235. Very great meal at a reasonable price."

"The Strip House was a very enjoyable place to dine, we were waited on hand and foot and the service was second to none, felt very much fussed over the entire evening. The food was excellent and the steaks were cooked to perfection which is very hard to find anywhere.
I would highly reccommend the Strip House to everyone but for most people they might find it a bit of an expensive evening like we did but for a one off it was very much worth it!"

"My husband and I visited just before new year and found that the two seater tables were crammed next to each other. We were, unfortunately, sat next to two NY stock brokers who were very loud and as we felt as if we were sitting on their laps ruined our experience somewhat. Had the restaurant removed one table it would have made the dinner a lot more enjoyable. Our starters and main course, however, were good. We left without dessert/coffee as we could not wait to leave. We were very disappointed, especially as the meal was costly."

"I've eaten here many times. This time things were way below par. I had one of the steak specials. Not only was it very expensive, but the portion was relatively small and the meat not especially flavorful. The caesar salad did not seem freshly made. It was equivalent to what might be available at any mediocre restaurant. My companion had the same impressions.
There was one exception: the creamed spinach. It is a revelation.
All things considered, I regret to say that I will hesitate before returning to The Strip House. The prices are simply too high to risk such a below par experience again."

"The food was fanastic. We were completely spoilt for choice and if we hadn't been set on going out afterwards would have probably gone three courses.

"Had a 9:30 reservation on Monday night, but didn't get seated until 10:05. Once we actually got seated, the service was good, though. I had the 16 oz. strip steak, medium rare, and it was the best steak I have ever had. The creamed spinach and mashed potatoes were also good. We were too stuffed to order any dessert, but I did see the slice of cheesecake that someone else ordered, and it was gigantic. Overall, a positive experience in spite of the wait time."

"We were recommended to go here and it did not disappoint! It was the best night from beginning to end. Quite a dark and noisy room but this adds to the great vibe and energy and fits the experience. Tables very NY style, close together but Loved it! The meat was extraordinary and the green beans were delish. My husband had the tuna - once again top drawer. We sat at the bar and had a drink while our table was being prepared, the bartender was a hoot. Loved it - everything about it loved it - we will go again. Food was traditional - something for everyone steak house."

"Strip House was amazing! We had reservations at 10:30 and happened to arrive a little bit earlier. It was pretty crowded so we went to the bar to have a drink. It was crowded at the bar too but we could still hear each other. The food was outstanding! For dinner we had the Chateaubriand for two, garlic french fries, and the string beans and I was wishing that I had room for more! I also made a request on open table for a piece of cake with a birthday candle, not expecting them to remember as sometimes restaurants overlook these things. And they brought us the biggest piece of chocolate cake with like 15 layers! The service was great and I would definitely go back!"

"Old school steakhouse with a very classy feel, not at all pretentious. Food was delicious - creamed spinach was out of this world. Chef cooked everything perfectly. Wait staff was impeccable. Our waiter was great - he even told us that the bottle of wine we were ordering he didn't receive good feedback on and suggested others in the same price range. Even for those that aren't steak lovers, if you're going to visit a steak house, this should be the one. Like most great steakhouses, it's not cheap, but at least you'll leave feeling it was worth it."

"Ordered the bone in strip which was absolutely perfect (medium rare). I loved the ambiance and decor or the restaurant and thought at one point that I should be getting a lap dance. Started off with crabcakes and sea scallops. Make sure you order the creamed spinach side if you like creamed spinach. Service was just right which was a surprise because the entire restaurant was busy. Decent wine list. Make sure you're ready to spend if you dine here. I highly recommend this restaurant and make sure you order nothing else but the bone in new york strip. Great for casual dinner with friends or casual dinner date."

"My boyfriend and I ate here on Sunday to celebrate his birthday. Our server was Joana who was extremely unattentive. It may have been because we were young and often waiters equate that with a poor tip. I noted the way he acted with the other tables he was serving and there was a clear difference. For one, we were never told the daily specials and I don't even recall him asking how the dinner was. In terms of food, my boyfriend asked for his steak well-done and it came charcoaled. The only thing that saved the steak from being thrown out was the house sauce. As for me I had fish, which I thought was very good. And the side dishes that we ordered were good as well and they were large portions so we could share."

"One dining experience does not a review make but ours was very enjoyable and the four guests all reported high satifaction with the food, service and really pleasant ambience. "Strip House was a great find in a city which has plenty of steak houses. Tucked away down town, its very easy to miss it compared with the central locations of others.
On arrival our table was ready and bread was brought out straight away.
Menu was good - not too wide, but not too small.
Excellent choice of steaks and superby cooked as well. Probably the best steak i have ever had - and i have been to some great steak houses across the world.
Great service...only down side is that the portions are so large!
Very easy to spend $200 without thinking or trying too hard."
