The Hobbit offers a 7 course prix-fixe menu Wed-Sun with one seating per evening. Cost per person is $74 (plus tax, tip & beverage). Our food is "Contemporary Continental" a reference to its encompassing many world cuisines.
We begin the evening in our wine cellar where you are handed a flute of Hobbit Champagne. Hors d'oeuvres are placed throughout the cellar, sommelier Tiffany Cox & wait staff are there to help you select wines for dinner with over 1000 labels to choose from!
Guests are then invited upstairs - you will be served a shellfish or fish first course then a fowl or light meat, followed by a salad course. After you enjoy "intermission" (visit the kitchen to speak with the chefs, take a walk, and relax on the patios).
15 minutes later guests return to their refreshed table for a flavorful sorbet palate-cleanser. The main entrée is served complete with accompanying vegetables. Dessert arrives next, along with a list of after dinner drinks and liqueurs.
"I brought client heare for dinner. Great mellow atmosphere and amazing service. Don't expect the normal hustle and bustle of a restaurant. Impeccable service and very knowledgeable staff. The were amazing. All the food was excellent but the hor d'hoevres, main course and desert were standouts."

"Mama was treated like a queen. Corsage and Hobbit Champagne to take home. Michael made sure we were comfortable and shared interesting stories about his wine tastings. The, as always, is to die for. Top of the line in flavor and presentation."

"We had not been to The Hobbit for a very long time - it was a great place to celebrate my husband's birthday. Everything was delicious and the service was very attentive. We have already recommended it to friends and family."

"This is the third year I've taken my wife for her birthday, and again it did not disappoint. Relax with a cocktail, taste yummy nibblies in the wine cellar (we've learned to not overdo it here, it's very easy) and enjoy the courses in a relaxed non-hurried pace. And we had wines with each of them too, I get the wine flight and it's good enough for two, if you just want a little to go with your meal. If you had a larger group, a bottle or two of wine might be better."

"The Hobbit is an outstanding restaurant that offers not only fine dining, but wine dinners. You must reserve early as it is a single seating. This was our second time to visit. I wished we lived closer so we could go more often (but my budget probably appreciates that we aren't closer.)"

"Many great things about the restaurant, not the least of which are the rooms upstairs which were something else! We went gaga over the wines in the cellar and our somelier who came, when asked, to our table was very enthusiastic in his recommendations. The aperitifs before the dinner and the dinner were both absolutely delicious."

"A wonderful evening! Debra and Michael are excellent hosts and I can't think of a better couple owning and operating this classic gem. Chef Michael's food and Debra's hospitality made this night spectacular! The whole experience is so well played and everything from the champagne in the wine cellar along with the hor d oeuvres, to the rest of spectacular food. It was a evening we will never forget! Many thanks and job well done!!"

"It was just a delightful evening....from a welcome by the owners at the front door, cocktails upstairs in the gorgeously updated bar and lounge, to the trip down to the cellar for scrumptious appetizers and house Sparkling wine. We were treated so well! Then back up for dinner in the bittersweet chocolate painted dining room. Subtle service, fabulous food and wines to match each course. Chef Mike Philippi knows what he's doing, and proves it every time we've gone in. It's an experience to share. And repeat."

"A great choice for a special night out! The food was very good, the service was excellent and the ambience was great. Great fun to start out in the wine cellar with fantastic starters. We brought our own wine and paid the $25.00 corkage and they were very helpful with decanting, serving and even bottling our leftovers back in the bottle and bagging it up! I would highly recommend. The price seemed very reasonable when you figure the two glasses of champagne that we had were part of the deal (we could have had more champagne if we had wanted it!). Be prepared for a late night -- we finished close to 11 pm."

"This restaurant is set in a stately home, not Tara mind you, but one of the even better built in an era when all were better built. This lends itself to the feeling of being a dinner guest at an extraordinary occasion. You start the evening before service with cocktails from the bar upstairs. Service begins with champagne and hors d’oeuvres in the wine cellar while wine pairings are selected for the upcoming courses. Knowledgeable guests may pick their own, discuss with the sommeliers, or I went with the house recommendations which were spot on. Then it’s upstairs for the remainder of the service. There is an intermission to talk with other guests, smoke in the patio, or observe and talk with the chefs in the kitchen. I found all the"

"Excellent experience starting with hors d'oeuvres in the basement wine cellar. Wine selection is excellent. We had the fortune to dine on a very light night and took the opportunity to meet with the chef. The food and service were outstanding. A special place."

"One of the better dining experiences I've had in SoCal since moving here 17 years ago. Food was memorable, one level below the best in the country. Service was impeccable and the setting very serene. A fine night out and a remarkable oasis in the cultural wsateland of Orange County."

"This was the perfect romantic setting that I was looking for. What a unique experience! Starting with the wine cellar, the intimate table setting next to the fire, the relaxing patio and fantastic food all made this restaurant stand out above the rest."

"This was our first time at the Hobbit. I had heard what a unique dining experience it was from others and it did not disappoint. Being partial to riesling wines from Germany, we were pleased to see most of our favorite bottles from the Mosel area. Each course was artistically arranged on the plate and almost to beautiful to consume...note that I said "almost". The servers were attentive without being interruptive and the entire experience was well worth it. We will definitely return and will share our experience with others."

"The food was fantastic with one exception. Desert seemed a little off. After some of the best lamb I think I've ever had and a fantastic beef wellington, it seemed a little bland. I would definitely recommend this place to others. From the way things are set up I think 2-4 people is the optimal size group. They can accommodate up to 8 in their main dining areas. Larger groups have to rent the wine cellar and sign a contract. It seemed pretty steep to me."

"This was our second time at the Hobbit, and we were not disappointed. This meal is a three-hour venture starting with an upstairs bar that opens an hour prior to your excursion into the wine cellar. In the cellar, you'll snack on a variety of appetizers while perusing a vast selection of reasonably priced wines to those that you might be afraid to touch. After you've had your fill, it is time to head to the main floor where you'll enjoy a multi-course meal that will tantalize and satiate; even those with snobbish tastebuds. The chef prepares the fare the way it should be done; vegetables are crisp, the meat is tender, flavorful, and prepared to the doneness requested, and your dessert will create happiness in your mouth."

"Everything was wonderful. My husband and I had never really had a fine dining experience, but after some research we chose the hobbit for his birthday. We're kind of beer snobs so wine really wasn't our thing but we did the wine pairing which was great. I guess I'd have to say overall we were very pleased and felt it was worth the price. The only thing that was a downside was that when we were seated there was some confusion and it was the wrong table. We were then whisked away to another table which was a little embarrassing. But as we were whisked away the server took our food list which I thought she was taking to give to us at our real table, but we never saw it again. We will probably definitely return sometime in the future."

"This was an awesome dining experience! Amazes me that they can afford to have only one seating a night, but it is worth waiting for an available reservation date... try to book early so you won't have to wait! Incredible wine cellar, I can't wait to try one of their tasting afternoons!"

"Have been here years ago and it was fantastic. This experience was not up to their previous standards. The noise level was unbearable! A large party dominated the dining room and this group was very loud and rude. There was no concern for the rest of the dining patrons. They were so loud that it was impossible to have a conversation with my husband in a normal tone of voice. My beef was good but my husband had the veal and he said it was tasteless. The preparation and taste was not as good as the previous times we have been and the price was WAY too much for the quality we received. Overall a disappointing experience."
