"I was very upset with the service, our waiter was rude and did not tend to us. As soon as he found out we bought the trial from travelzoo he began to ignore us. Also i went to ask him a question about the check so i could tip him appropriately and he got up tight. Overall the food was okay, drinks were really good and the place is beautiful."

"The ambiance and food at Megu was wonderful! The service was terrible and our reservation was at 6:30! The restaurant was not busy at that early hour. The left hand did not know what the right hand was doing. We waited at least 20 minutes between courses and two of our party waited even longer for their main dishes! "They forgot"!!!"

"Eating is more than the food. The food at Megu is divine. The presentation of the appetizers, entrees, desserts, and drinks enhanced the experience. If I was blindfolded, I would still love the food. Our appetizer salmon tartare was expertly mixed and served at our table. I love the flambe on the Kobe beef. And the dessert sample dish has an amazing assortment of desserts that we could sample to our hearts delight. Megu is my goto place to celebrate all my special occassions."

"The last 5 years have seen Megu go from hotspot to a fallback if you can't get in somewhere else. The service is awful compared to when I was there when it opened. That being said the food quality is still decent with a few standout dishes."

"In a town that has many outstanding restaurants, Megu clearly ranks towards the top of any listing. Have only been to its Tribeca location (Thomas Street), which totally exceeded my expectations. With that said, it is expensive even for NYC standards. However, this diner certainly received more than what he paid for. Outstanding selections, amazing versions of known foods, eye-catching presentations & ambiance; and, absolutely flawless- & attentive- service. In a nutshell, just bring your 'desire,' Megu will certainly 'SATISFY'!!!!"

"I was really excited to take my husband here after having purchased a deal from Travel Zoo. I had told them I had the voucher when I booked. After we were seated, we had two different people come over to view the voucher on my phone, then made me email it to their reservation line (after I had given them the appropriate information). It was very embarassing, as if they were trying to make us feel like second class citizens for using a voucher. If anything, we were potential repeat customers who no longer will be. The food was OK. It seemed the portions we received were smaller than others I was seeing go by. The ambiance was nice, but very overpriced for what you get."

"I chose Megu Restaurant after I saw its well-designed web page. I was celebrating my 9th year anniversary with my girlfriend and also, celebrating my sister's and brother-in-law "promise...soon-to-be engagement".
We like that it was not far from the train station. When we actually arrived, the decor inside was elegant and chic. The seating arrangement is near the ICE BUDDHA, which is totally what we all wanted. Also, the seats were comfortable. The sushi was delicious! My sister ABSOLUTELY LOVED the eel.
We would definitely recommend for special occasions."

"The food is delicious, ambiance is very nice. Our reservation was 7:00 PM on Sunday, the restaurant was so quiet, we got the best table in house! People started coming after 7:30 PM. But overall, if you are looking for a nice and quiet place to enjoy good food but not stuff yourself, it's a good choice."

"I went there with a group of 15 for my 25th birthday party. Between food arriving late, to empty water glasses (depsite members of my group repeatedly asking staff for it), to each drink ordered arriving 30-40 minutes after it was ordered, to the waitstaff arguing with us, to the THREE managers we complained to not following up, the service is so poor that neither the food nor the ambiance make up for it. The staff just does not care about the patrons, even ones who are willing to foot a $1,000+ bill for a single dinner. This restaurant is a poor excuse for a one-star parading as something high-end. We ended up with a $1200 bill and everyone felt the experience was poor. Save your money and the headache and go elsewhere."

"Cod was overly salty, otherwise, overall good presentation is great. Food is average as I've tasted better @ MASA & BLUE RIBBON SUSHI. Attentive wait staffs which is a plus! Ambience is great too! More of a to impress a date place than for the food."

"Have been wanting to come here for some time but never got around to it.Except this weekend had some friends come in from out of town and was perfect opportunity. We were seated promptly( made reservation) and the server was very knowledgable. We had the asparagus(tasty) the Kobe carpaccio and the salmon tartar(awesome) The sake (2 bottles )was easy going down..the tiger prawns were a delight and finally the dessert sampler was just the right amount to conclude the meal..we will definitely be coming back."

"Having attended the launch event for another Megu location (overseas), my husband I were eager to try this NYC location. We went on a Sunday evening and were 1 of only 3 or 4 tables. The place was quite empty. Additionally, the seafood was horrible. Not at all fresh, in fact the tuna tartar was so off, I had to send it back. It tasted like muddy sea water. The piece of hamachi sashimi I ordered, wasn't really hamachi at all! The steak items we ordered were delicious, as was the asparagus appetizer. My only comment about the appetizer would be that it should have come out with some kind of sauce or dressing. It was pretty plain/dry without anything. For the price we paid, definitely not going back."

"I was just there for Feb 14th for V-Day. It is a very cool venue and a good vibe. In this case Valentine's Day got the best of Megu. It was crowed(which should be expected by management) and never could get it right. I think part of their problem was they offered a prefix AND the regular menu. That might seem like the best of both world but the net result was very very poor/slow service. The staffing was also very odd in that no one was really assigned to certian tables. We must have had 5 or 6 differnet people throughout the night and the result no one really took ownership of making sure our experience was special and it was not. I fully admit, Valentin's Day may not be the best time to judge a place. I would try it again, maybe."

"I took my husband and mother-in-law here for their mutual birthdays. Brought our two-year old daughter and all had a great time. Our server was definitely on the new side; she was knowledgeable, but young and a bit overly enthusiastic. It was jarring compared to the amazingly cool vibe of the room. She and the rest of the staff were very sweet to our daughter, so that was fine. The food was superb, wine was fantastic and dessert was lovely. Make sure you ask for a table in the center dining room, the side rooms are much less interesting."

"This was one of the best food experiences I had in a long time. We went for restaurant week and the staff was extremly helpful and let us take our time. They let us take our time at the bar to finish our drinks. We ended up with 5 coarses instead of just the 3. This will be in my memory for a long time."

"I took my girlfriend to Megu on the night I proposed. The food was superb... presentation too with great decor to boot. The only thing I would say was that some of the servers were a little green/unexperienced. However this did not take away from the experience as they were always polite and helpful. We had a great night ... resulting in a 'yes' ... thank you Megu team."

"This is the 3rd time I have been to Megu. The other times have been wonderful. This time that was not the case. Our server was not very good in my opinion. He never checked up on us...he seem to ignore us...as I did notice that he was very attentive to other tables. My feeling was that he was over us as we were having the restaurant week menu and not drinking. I felt judged...where or not that was true I am not sure...however, I felt that way.
I also felt that the restaurant week menu was very lackluster. The food seemed to be pre made and not very fresh. I also find the portions rather small and unfulfilling. We actually went to another restaurant after to get more food.
Boo for Megu!"

"Megu is my signature place to celebrate all the good things in life. The restaurant and service are impeccable. The ambiance and food elate your spirits to joyous levels. The one nuance that I have yet talk about is the progression of the meal. The appetizers such as the yellowtail carpaccio and the katsuta chicken are already amazingly tasty leaving one to wonder if it's possible that the entree could be any better. It can. The kobe beef on a hot stone is perfection. Served rare on a hot stone with garlic chips, you can cook it to your desired level of doneness. The selection of garlic rice is a nice nod to authenticity brought to a gourmet level. For the finale, the green tea crepe wraps up the meal with a smile."

"Went here on a Friday night do Restaurant Week and the place has a lounge/bar on the groundhog level and urge restaurant is downstairs. It is has a very nightlife vibe which I personally don't prefer with a restaurant. Service was very good; the waitress even places the napkin on your lap. As for the food, it was delicious but the main course, Kobe beef, was very small and I'm not sure why we were t asked how we liked it cooked. The green tea crepe and creme brûlée was very tasty. We were received our food quickly and were still hungry after our three course meal. Overall, my experience here was fair."
