"The food was outstanding! But it was quite a bit too noisy for our tastes. My wife and I like to be able to talk to dinner guests without yelling at them. We could only hear about half of what was said, and our hearing is excellent. Maybe some nice relaxing music would help, or maybe there was music and we just couldn't hear it over the roar."

"Generally our visits are truly lovely experiences (after eating brunch there for over 25 years) with caring excellent service and good food, all with a spectacular view. However, on the most recent Mother's Day visit, poor service (multiple requests for salt and missing French toast syrup and no attention from the waitress after our food was served) and a hostess uninterested in accommodating a special request for a window table left us disillusioned. The original "loving kindness" and welcoming caring attitude originated by the Green Gulch founders seems to be seeping away and dissolving into uncaring efficiency. We hope this trend does not continue. Try it for a possibly wonderful brunch, but beware the institution may be in transition."

"The service at our table was okay, though my pot of hot water was not very hot. Also, the beverages we ordered were brought to our table after our entrees arrived. At the surroundubg tables the waitstaff made many mistakes when delivering food. It seemed that they were not clear on what dishes went to which tables.
I'd also like to state that we were seated in the back room, very disappointing as it was cold and had littlle amibiance or personality. There was a large party at one of the tables, they were pretty noisy and the sound reverberated."

"As someone with extensive experience in vegetarian cooking and dining, I was still surprised at how awfully good the food is at this classic S.F. vegetarian restaurant. I loved the use of greens, including fennel, with the cheese plate, turning a basic food experience into an adventure in flavor and texture. We've been to Greens several times since it opened in the seventies, and the experience is an unchanging pleasure, one of the few bits of permanence in a floating sea of restaurants that come and go. Maybe it's the Zen influence, but whatever it is, I'd recommend this place to anyone capable of enjoying vegetables at their very best. The wine list was also first rate, as were the view of the Golden Gate and the steady, reliable service."

"The vegetarian choices were plentiful, but similar to what I cook at home. Was expecting a more unusual menu. The bruchettes were OK, not great. The rice that came with them, although a healthy type, was bland. A bit pricey for the quality of food. But you can't beat the view."

"Have been coming to Greens for over 20 years but hadn't been in a while. Had out of town, vegan friends visiting - along with my decidedly NON-vegan family - what to do? Remembered Greens and it was perfect! Everyone enjoyed their food, the view is one of the best in SF, and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. We closed down the restaurant and no one even raised an eyebrow. Highly recommend this - even if you're omnivorous."

"We got there at 7 PM. The rush started just after 7:30, so we sat a long time with uncleared plates, until we finally caught the waiter's eye. She apologied, but still... This is not an inexpensive place to eat.
The food was great. Atmosphere is a little seer, and the high ceilings and hard surfaces make it a little noisy (again from the rush?)
Go whenever you can."

"This is one of my favorite places to go on a date, or take out of town guests who want a real NorCal eating experience. The food is amazing (I even took a meat and potatoes guy here and he loved it). Cocktails are a bit pricey. The view is equally amazing. Nice cozy atmosphere. Love the burl wood tables! And the parking is easy!"

"Took my spouse for Birthday/Sunday Brunch. As is the case these days, the word "brunch" is a very loose term. Still, exciting a la carte menu. I had the foraged mushroom omlette with yellow finger potatoes that was one of the best I have eaten!. However, a $17 omlette should not lack toast and jam -disappointment. BRUNCH IS STILL BREAKFAST!!!
My partner had Green's version of Huevos Rancheros, with a special request for egg whites; the verdict was the same as mine: Delicious.
We made reservations online through Open Table, asking to give the birthday boy a great table, and they certainly did. The table was windowside, views out over the bay and Marina Green to the Golden Gate Bridge were exceptional. Service was very good."

"We booked a table for 6 to celebrate my wife's 70th birthday. Eight family members arrived and the hostess was able to accommodate us in a separate room which was quiet and perfectly suited for our group. The menu has improved from a year ago and was more vegan-friendly. The servers were friendly and helpful. A thoroughly enjoyable experience! We will do this again when we celebrate a family event."

"It has been years since we dined here as previous visits bordered on the terrible - wait staff higher than kites and food quality mediocre - when it finally arrived. I had written this place off. Out of town guests prompted a re-look and are week absolutely tickled with the place - our server was outstanding, very knowledgeable and unobtrusive. The food came out hot and well presented.All four of us truly enjoyed our dishes.
What was amazing is this took place 3 days after the chef had been killed in a tragic car accident. Kudos to the staff"

"Even if you aren't a vegetarian, the food at Green's is wonderful. The quality of their ingredients, attention to detail, and the melding of all of the wonderful flavors in your mouth make for a sumptuous dining experience. "Thank you Greens! We were 45 mins late for our window view table because GPS took us the wrong way. Greens and its staff very kind, we waited 10 mins and received a gorgeous window table for our special occasion family brunch party! It was a lovely brunch, however we were not as excited about our menu choices as we have been in the past. Previous dinner choices were outstanding."

"Green's has been a favorite for many years. However, for last couple of visits the experience was less impressive. The food is good, but no longer exceptional and the staff were complacent and dismissive. Being on the San Francisco waterfront, the location can't be beat, but Green's seems to be resting on its laurels."

"We had an 8:45 reservation but still waited 30 minutes to be seated. The staff were very accommodating however, covering our first round of drinks to apologize for the delay. "My favorite part, besides the lovely the view of the Golden Gate Bridge, the sunset, the harbor and the ocean, were the appetizers. They were an array of colorful, crisp vegetables that were perfect for the warm spring weather. One of our mains was good, a light farro risotto with exotic mushrooms and made in a broth (rather than a heavy cream/cheese sauce) - again, fitting for spring. Our second main was a curry/coconut dish that was actually terrible. Only one bite was taken. Unfortunately, the waiter never came back to check on us, so he never noticed our disappointment. Busboys took away the plates - we literally never saw the waiter again. This also prevented me from ordering a second glass of wine! Very disappointed with the service."
