"Eating at Greens is always a pleasant experience because of the energy that the waitstaff brings to the restaurant and because of the exciting location of the restaurant. The menu offers interesting and delicious options for long time vegetarians or for those who just enjoy fine food. I wouldn't recommended this restaurant to families with picky eaters because most of the dishes served take a risk and aren't what you would find on the Red Robin menu. Greens really brings to life what it means to enjoy fresh, invigorating food in a chic, welcoming environment."

"We had not been to Green's for a long time. We were disappointed with this visit. About the only thing that still remains excellent is the view. We had remembered it as innovative and of excellent quality. This time we felt that the food was pricey and only fair in quality. It may have been a mistake to order the sampler which was not memorable or distinguished, actually rather "ho-hum" The waitress was very good, attentive, patient and helpful. We will not be returning."

"Out of towners, we visited greens 15 years ago. we returned to celebrate my husband's 50th. This time we were not with friends, but the suprise addition to our family, ur 3 year old son Ted. Food, drinks, and ambience was fantastic just as we had remembered. Ted was welcomed as any other guest and had special menu choices - although he chose to eat the yummy asparagus starter. We booked early 6 pm and stayed through 8 pm and as parents of a small child did not feel ackward at all. Lookimg forward to returning in 15 years when Ted is writing college applications so Grant and I can linger a little longer over the wine list. Wonderfu."

"We marveled at the server who was able to retain the orders of 4 guests at a neighboring table as well as ours (2 of us) at the same time with no notes or requests to repeat anything. The food was the best we enjoyed on our 5-day visit to San Francisco."

"I've been to Greens many times over the years and it never disappoints. The quality of the food is always outstanding. My only critique is that I wish there was not a prefixe menu on Sat. nights. That was the only night I could take an out of town guest, and would have preferred to have the a la carte menu, as the prefixe is quite pricey. I might pick another restaurant on a Sat. night from now on."

"Greens is always a reliable choice for top-quality vegetarian (but most non-vegan) food. Service can be a bit erratic, so allow plenty of time. Considering they are the only restaurant within shouting distance of Magic Theatre, they should be more sensitive to theatre-goers. Our last visit, for the Saturday night four-course prix fixe, everything fell into place beautifully. We arrived a bit late and somewhat frazzled due to traffic delays but our waitress handled everything beautifully from beginning to end. The food was especially good, with special kudos for the two dishes with citrus accents that hit beautiful notes. And the almond tart dessert -- where do they get their almonds? -- was perfect, avoiding cloying sweetness."

"Great food and service. A lovely evening. Only problem was getting back to our hotel with my 92-year-old father. The staff at the restaurant called cabs for us, but they didn't come. No fault of the Greens people who wanted to go home themselves, but waited with us and offered us coffee and were all around delightful."

"My party and I adored Greens Restaurant. The setting overlooking the marina with the GGB in the distance was beautiful. The menu had variety (not just tofu and salads) and the food was spectacularly fresh, well-seasoned and totally delicious. Perfect for a first time experience and definitely good enough to go back again. The only negative was the noise level (overwhelming sound of clinking silverware) which I guess could not be helped due to the architecture."

"Since moving from the city, I hadn't been back to Green's for years. A business meeting brought me back -- and I'm so glad it did! I still found that the restaurant offered all the good things that I had loved about it before: great vegetarian food prepared to look as good as it tastes (sometimes not found with vegetarian entrees), a beautiful menu selection with surprising and delicious offerings, fresh ambiance, great views, and friendly staff. "We were there for Sunday Brunch. It was very crowded, the menu was very limited and unimaginative the service was not very good. My husband asked if he could substitute goat cheese for the dolce gorganzola in the portabello mushroom burger and he was told it would delay our order one hour!
We have been to the Greens many times but we will never go there for Sunday Brunch again."

"We (two omnivours, a vegetarian and a vegan) thoroughly enjoyed our meal and all would happily return for another opportunity to explore the menu offerings. The wait staff was friendly and competent -- and cheerfully ensured that we were able to savor the appetizer and entrees and still depart within the time we had alloted (next time we'll plan to linger over dessert). "Our hopes for an enjoyable dining experience were devasted by the rude hostess that begrudgingly checked our 12:45pm reservation for 4 which we were right on time for and told us we had to wait. After about a quarter of an hour, the hostess lead us to our table which was in the small secluded dining room off the main dining area. There was no view and our table was located far from the small windows in this room. When we declined the table, she gruffly took us back to the waiting area and told us to wait.again The next table she offered us was in the main dining room but off to the side of the dining room by the kitchen. She told us this was the best we could get. Disenchanted, we begrudingly took our seats. Our experience was ruined."

"Green's is going downhill. The prices are becoming outrageously high for mediocre quality of "organic"? food. The my portbello sandwich was skimpy on the mushroom and cold to taste. "The food, notably the pizza was excellent. Had a bad experience with restaurant rules not allowing a party to be seated unless everyone was present, even though only one of us was still missing due to parking issues. Fortunately we had a great waitress Josie whose great wait service helped us forget the poor treatment at the reception and have a wonderful luncheon experience."

"I was with a group of 4. We had to wait about 10 minutes, but our reward was a window seat overlooking the bay and the GG bridge. As a special binus, the new coastguard boat came into the bay followed by a fire boat spraying water in all directions, what a thrill! The place was busy, as always, so the service was a little bit slow, but the food was good. The portions are huge!"

"Service was excellent. I got a message forewarning that there is another event in the fort mason area and to be prepared for limited parking on the same day. I appreciate the call, so I can also prepare my guests who are driving in. Our waitress was excellent (amiable & proficient). For handling a large group, our waitresss made sure everyone had everything they ordered. The bus boys did an excellent job in clearing the used plates and making sure everyone had a clean utensil. I love the soup, mushroom omelettes, scones, and especially the pancakes which are to die for! My guests were happy and so was I. I know a few of my guests will be returning to Greens!"

"We had the four course tasting menu. It was well conceived. The spinach salad was perfectly made as well as the soup. I did add a little bit of salt to the soup to open up the flavors a bit more. The entree was probably the weakest part of the entire meal. It was a sunchoke gratin; it was good but not what I would expect to find at a place like Greens. The deserts were amazing. We had the flourless chocolate torte and the apricot/almond tart. The coffee was far superior to the espresso. The espresso tasted around a week old. Ordered a wine pairing as well; we enjoyed most all of the wine parings - would have liked to had a pairing with desert. Would definitely return."

"I had never been to the Greens Restaurant located on Fort Mason and it was a fabulous dining experience. As a recent convert to a vegetarian lifestyle I found the food to be delicious, well presented, and the atmosphere very lovely. "I love the water views from this Fort Mason location. For optimal views make your reservations before sunset & request a window table. Sat. night menu is a 4 course prix fixe. Although the portions seemed small we were completely stuffed by the end of the meal (and we had not filled up on bread). The menu changes regularly but I'd recommend the artichoke gratin if available. Suggested wine pairings worked well. Service was superb. When a place is this pricey I expect high value and Greens delivers."

"I had requested a table by a window and we did get one. The view is fantastic - Golden Gate Bridge, marina, a seal or sea lion swimming outside the window. The service was great and our food was excellent. The menu is vegetarian, and there are new choices every time we go - which is about once a year during the orchid show at Ft. Mason. We always look forward to having lunch here and I recommend Green's to anyone heading to that area of San Francisco. Be sure to save room for their fabulous desserts and maybe pick up some goodies at their take-put counter on your way out the door."

"Lucky to get table by window on a clear night! Waitress was excellent but other servers brought the food. The waitress apologized for the bar being sluggish preparing our drinks (only a glass of wine and one glass of grape juice). Soup/salad came promptly, but main course seemed delayed. May have been sitting for a while waiting for servers to pick up. My entree was only warm in the center, had cooled off considerably on the outside. Almond tart seemed to lack flavor. Our guest was excited to be there for the first time and enjoyed her meal. As repeat visitors to Greens, we were somewhat disappointed."

"I have had many memorable meals at Greens over the years, but this was the first time I had brunch there. The food was lovely. The service was embarrassing. And note that my main grievance is NOT with the obviously new, young, and inadequately trained waiter who completely got our order wrong. No my gripe is with the MANAGER who in the most terse arrogant manner came to our table and seemed to indicate that WE had made the mistake (mind you the order was not even close!). In the most grudging and unprofessional manner he took the order anew. Our waiter was, in the end, kind enough to take something off the bill for the "inconvenience"--service most definitely not worthy of this fine establishment."

"Can get busy, reservations helpful. Staff very polite and attentive. Soft Tacos with seasoned Butternut squash were wonderful; I came back the next day to have them again. The walnut bread grilled cheese with a spring salad with walnuts and apple a perfect pairing. Not a morsel left. The Sampler plate with Artichoke hearts, seasoned beans, grilled Cauliflower tasty and satisfying. The trio of Sorbets very good,The Coconut was my favorite.
The Flourless Chocolate cake with caramel ice cream a winner. Thank you Greens."

"I am a vegetable lover and my husband is the true carnivore. He was worried about coming to Greens but agreed to try it out for me. "This is my favorite restaurant and my husband and I have consistantly had a wonderful experience at Greens. The food is delicious and even non-veggies are happy here. Take a look at the wine list and you will find many organic and biodynamically managed vinyard selections. The view is incredible and service to match. Customer service is very good here, notably so, and any problem is quickly remediated. Case in point, sthe chairs are currently very uncomfortable. The waiter brought me an extra cushion and told me in no uncertain terms that the chairs were in cue to be replaced throughout the restaurant. The place is always packed and we often sneak away to lunch at Greens, lowers the cost and the daytime view is priceless."

The menu is creative, the service was excellent, our table at the large window had a wonderful view of the San Francisco marina. We've eaten dinner there, as well as lunch, and each time it was a special experience. Well worth the price and the visit. For lunch we ordered and shared the Grilled Eggplant Sandwich and the Mesquite Grilled Brochettes (which came with the best tofu either of us had ever eaten). Started the meal with Black Bean Chili which was absolutely delicious. Greens is a definite recommendation."

"Greens is definitely NOT what it used to be. I remember 10 years ago having one of the best meals of my life. The last few times the food has been mediocre at best, seemed to be hastily prepared and lacking inspiration. The "sampler" appetizer plate at $16 consists of two very undercooked artichoke halves and a few blobs of various salads and a couple of small toasts with goat cheese - $16 for that? The Shepard's Pie was quite a disappointment. At just under $25, I expected more than a few exotic mushrooms - tasty though - topped with what amounted to a single potato. Presented on the side were several white "balls," which on further examination turned out to be turnips and onions - yuk, tasteless and bland. won't be going back. :~("

"They put us in a small room off the interesting main dining room. The acoustics in there were so loud. All through dinner we would hear the conversation of this loud woman at a table right outside this little room. Why they put us in there and not in the main room is a mystery to us because there appeared to be plenty of available seating. They probably thought they were doing us a favor.We should have asked to be moved. The food was generally good but a few misses. Particularly a crepe dish that 2 people had. "Arriving 35 mins early we asked if that presented a problem seating us & were told we'd be seated in a few minutes. 40 mins later we were seated. I don't fault the restaurant kitchen..there are limits to how many dishes can come out. But the hostess should've been honest with us. It was infuriating seeing more than a dozen tables seated prior to us including those that had admitted to having arrived 35 minutes late.

Has Greens been bought out by a new owner? Before the food was even better. This time the waitress advised us the amuse bouche came with half a glass of wine and the appetizer with another half glass. We don't recall such skimpiness in the past. Charge more? You don't have have high enough quality wines to merit your prices."

"Greens is a classic and a great place to go if you're vegetarian. The only thing I don't like is the seating arrangement for parties of 2. It's not the traditional arrangement with one person on either end of the table. Instead one person is on the end while the other person is on the side, which made me feel packed in like a sardine with the other tables next to us. You can hear everything the table next to you is saying even if you try not to because they are facing towards your back."

"I have been to Greens twice, once for dinner and once for their Sunday brunch. My dinner was one of the best meals I've ever had! We had a cheese plate first which was to die for (well, I do LOVE cheese). The little touches here are great. The salt dish with the tiny spoon, the cute honey container if you have tea, the little olives that garnished my dish... It is a bit pricey, but so worth it, and if you want a more affordable option go for lunch or brunch. They also have an excellent wine selection."

"This is a vegetarian institution in SF and one I've been wanting to visit for sometime. It definitely lives up to its name. Portions are on the small side, but it was plenty for me. While the food wasn't out of this world phenomenal, it was definitely a worthwhile dinner. Love locally grown, organic foods and that's their focus. Not many vegan options, if that's a concern for you. The physical space is very large and open. You won't feel crowded even if every seat in the house is taken. At night you can't see the harbor but the bells ringing and the little scenary added a nice touch. Our server was wonderful - she clearly enjoyed her work and it showed. I think it's well worth a visit."

"I go to Green's for the good food, not because it's vegetarian. They have a wonderfully varied and changing menu (which reflects the choice of ingredients available at any particular time of year), and the staff if always very knowledgeable and helpful. As a foodie I feel quite comfortable there because I know that someone has thought through every detail in advance. "Have been eating at greens since it was founded. Clearly they are either under new management or are under financial pressure. The menu was abbreviated and quality was mediocre. Spring rolls were eminently forgettable. I ordered crepes with a salsa sauce that was tough to distinguish from Heinz ketchup. They took it back happily and the shepards pie was much better but a faint echo of the taste of bygone years. I'm guessing they will be gone the way of big name restaurants who let quality slip in a competitive market within the year. View is still spectacular"

"I had the most wonderful birthday dinner at Greens! The food was incredible, the service was impeccable and our waiter, Ted, sang Happy Birthday when he brought our dessert (with a lit candle, of course). I love this restaurant. "Greens is always a favorite for special occasions. Although it is somewhat pricey, it is ALWAYS worth it. Every time I've dined there, we've ordered a scone, coffee cake, and/or pastry for the table as an appetizer...definitely the best way to start out. The mimosas are quite wonderful as well (I prefer the pomegranate mimosa).

The best part about Greens is that I never end up missing the meat items. Actually, the first time I went to Greens, I didn't even know it was a vegetarian restaurant until after we left.

DEFINITELY make a reservation (that place is always busy). Make sure to know what is going on around Ft. Mason on the day you plan to dine (if there is a huge event happening, parking can be difficult)."

"Exceptionally fresh food with a wonderful selection of appetizers and entrees sunday brunch. Portions are a generous size. Service was excellent and if you are a coffee drinker your cup will never be less than half full. Our party of four ordered different entrees and appetizers and everyone was very pleased. The only regret is that we were too full to try the deserts but we did purchase pastries at the counter which we ate later and were delicious. We have been to this restaurant several times and really like that menu items are always changing."

"We had a party of 10 for a Saturday night dinner, which was prix fix. All 7 adults had wonderful dinners, were very happy with the delicious food choices. Not kid friendly, though. They offered a $23 kids' prix fix menu, with pasta as the entree. The pasta was much too spicy for all 3 kids in our party, and Greens had no other option. Our kids ended up eating bread and chocolate cake for dinner. The last complaint was that the adults were ordering wine at different times, all by the glass. When we realized after several orders had already been placed that the exact same chardonney was being ordered, we asked the waitress if she could convert our order to a bottle of wine, but she wouldn't do that. That seemed unusually inflexible."

"We had lunch at the Moss Room at the California Academy of Sciences the same day we had dinner at Greens. Our Moss Room vegetarian lunch was incredible, more plentiful and far superior to our dinner at Greens. Although you can’t beat the view from Greens, I have to say that this was one of my least favorite restaurant meals as I ate my way around San Francisco and Napa during a week visit. The entree's weren't as amazing as the cookbook recipes."

"We requested a window table on the Open Table reservation, and were seated in what is surely the least desirable table in the restaurant, by the kitchen: noisy, lots of traffic and breeze, and doors swinging at our side into a busy kitchen. Perhaps Open Table seating requests are not appreciated...
The location and setting are lovely, especially from almost any other table, particularly by the window on the water.
The food was good, but the same tough and flavorless artichoke that was part of our appetizer also was part of my vegetable tagine entree, and it would have been nice to have more variety and taste.
The staff were attentive and did move us for the second course to another table, much calmer but still not the window!"

"We were looking for a good lunch spot for a friend who was visiting, but only in town for one day. Greens was an excellent choice. While not inexpensive, I found the costs to be less than the other fine dining options that we were considering. We had a beautiful view from our table by the windows. The restaurant began to fill as our meal progressed, but there was no noticeable increase in the sound level. The entire meal is vegetarian, but was definitely filling, even for a meat eater like me. The food was quite tasty, and the service attentive."

"I started with the Wild Mushroom polenta. The wild mushrooms and the cream sauce were light, delicate with just the right subtle body. The polenta was a bit airy rather than dense and its lightness left me wanting more to balance the mushroom sauce. For the main course, I had a Tagine - vegetables over cous cous in an overly sweet tomato based sauce. I was disappointed in the sweetness; it was a bit cloying; however the cous couse was cooked perfectly. The veggies were lovely and an occasional crunch on the included nuts was a delightful addition. I appreciated the addition of sparkling prosecco on the wine list; always a looked for and welcome offering. Service was slow; an invitation to dine leisurally left me feeling neglected."

"The restaurant, its setting and furnishings were oustanding. However, the food was overpriced and a little over-rated for its general reputation in the community and published guides; so the dining experience was a bit mixed. However, the main courses were mostly very good but not well supported by the "sides" - the gluten-free was very good.
We would like to comment on specific menu items that could have been better. Polenta: milky, mushy and tasteless; not sufficiently grilled. The artichokes were tough: perhaps they should have been pre-steamed before grilling. The pizza main course was very average in flavour - not much attempt was made to blend the flavours of the pumpkin and the fetta, although the crust was light and crisp."

"This is the second time that I have been to Greens and it was wonderful!! This restaurant is worth every penny. Although it's a vegetarian restaurant, I would take my meat loving friends, because the food is so amazing, vibrant flavors, fresh produce, inventive offerings, that you won't even notice there isn't any meat and you won't miss it a bit!!!!! "The food was excellent tasting, except when we left, we both had a full-beyond-comfort feeling, and this was without dessert. Maybe we ordered wrong (wilted spinach salad and spring roll, then sampler and portabello sandwich) but there was too much olive oil in everything we ate (we shared everything). The fingerling potatoes that came with the sandwich were swimming in oil (a puddle remained on the plate). We would've ordered dessert if we weren't so full. The trick to excellent vegetarian food is making it taste good with minimal butter, oil, cheese, etc."

"Everything was great. The waiter was very friendly, down to earth and attentive. He suggested ways in which we could share some food, in order to sample more options without spending too much money or pigging out. "For those of us who are searching for a great vegetarian-cuisine experience in San Francisco, Greens delivers. The prix-fixe menu is absolutely delicious, allowing the guest to choose from an average of four plates from each of the four-course selections. Although, on the evening we dined there, the first course wasn't necessarily a course at all, and was a social-plate that was served to the table, instead of to each individual (so 4-course = 3-course). Each service offers both a visually exciting and aromatic/tantalizing presentation that is indicative of a five-star restaurant. The best time to dine is during sunset, as the restaurant offers some stunning views of the Fort Mason marina, looking West towards the Golden Gate Bridge."

Seems like this would be a very attractive restaurant to keep open all day because of the view however for whatever reason the owner/staff shut down for an hour 4-5pm... "A good, solid restaurant, but too high priced for what we got. We each had a glass of wine, and the menu was a set price. The total bill, after tip, was $175. We both left a bit hungry. The first dish was a few olives, some wonderful cheese, and a very small salad like dish. The second dish, which we chose from a list of about 5, was a warm salad. The salad was very small and very tasty. The entrees were ravioli, about 5 or 6 of them on the plate; and I had the stuffed portobello with a side of mashed potatos. Both entrees were very good. "It was a special celebration for a small group of us (6) and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. A truly magical night, with wonderful food and wine as well. The signature brochette dish was really spectacular, with the Moroccan sauce."
