Across from Carnegie Hall, Trattoria Dell’Arte features the largest antipasto bar in New York, a sprawling selection of seafood and vegetable specialties perfect for parties of all sizes. Designed after a Tuscan artist’s studio, the rooms include half-finished paintings, oversized sculptures of fragmented body parts, a gallery of Italian noses, a wine cellar dining room, and candle-filled private rooms.
The menu focuses on northern Italian specialties such as the steak Florentine, double veal chop, seafood specialties of the Mediterranean, and unforgettable desserts.
"We have been eating once a year since 1987 in that restaurant because it's very close to our hotel and we always enjoy the atmosphere. The only criticism I have to make about that restaurant is the noise ! But it's New York."

"We have enjoyed dining at Trattoria Dell'Arte on regular NY trips for over 20 years. This time (late Sunday brunch) was a flop. The first hint was a basket of cold (stale?) muffins. The waiter was indifferent. Some of the food was obviously pre-cooked and kept in a warming drawer until served. How else to account for the clearly overdone sausages? Overall, not a memorable experience."

"This was our second visit ! The food is just wonderful! I guarantee you have never seen a veal or chicken cutlet the size of the ones they serve here! Our server made us feel like we were his most important customers, even though the restaurant was packed and the place was bustling. They have a great wine list. Even the location of the restaurant is wonderful. Even with all of the hundreds of restaurants in NYC to try, I know I will be back"

"The receptionist said he was going to give us a nice table on the first floor. It was a terrible table, just at the corner where your clients were being escorted to the back room. Several times I has bumped in the back by some woman's handbag or by a waiter going by."

"Not as good as in the past. The waiter was pushy and we felt rushed. The pizza which we love and come to the restaurant was not up to its usual greatness. The caesar salad was small and although we indicated that we wanted it for the table the waiter never told us what size it was or to order more than one. Our friends pasta looked quite dry, my fish - branzino was on the dry side. We have been coming to this restaurant for about 5 years and we come every time we are in town. Not sure it will be a stop over next time around. Perhaps the chef has changed."

"While so many restaurants become complacent, Dell'Arte has dished out, year after year, enthusiastic management, great waiters, fine linen, and excellent and interesting food. Bravo!"

"Bronzino entree contained an excessive amount of bones after I was assured it would be de-boned. Additionally the portion was "skimpy", yet it was one of the most expensive entrees on the menu. Finally, our server never asked how I liked my entree. I've eaten here once before and everything was fine, so I chalk the last experience up to just bad luck."

"The maitre de and hostess were so friendly and helped me surprise my girlfriend with a gift. Crowded on a wednesday, good bar scene. Ordered lite mediterranean fare so cant comment on the pizzeria type part of the menu. Bronzini was supposed to be boneless but wasnt. Also $72 for two fish dishes that only came with a side veggie, no starch. But great quality.. I wish the menu stated the grilled calamari app was served cool. The octupus salad is 4 baby octupus grilled and delicious. If your looking for high quality lite fare youl find it here but its not cheap. Two small carafes of wine were $34."

"I have eaten at Trattoria Dell'Arte many times. When I arrived on Sunday I was told they had a nice table for us upstairs. Downstairs did not look full. Upstairs was a dark, nearly empty low-ceilinged room. I do not know why we were seated there but it was a totally different and not better experience than eating downstairs. We should have complained.
The food, as usual, was excellent. One comment on the wine--two of my friends ordered the pinot grigio by the glass. I noticed the make because it had recently been served at a party given by my brother. It costs $7 a bottle. We were charged $13 a glass."

"The title describes our experience. We were treated poorly as soon as we walked in by the rude hostess. Ignored our reguest for a booth, which was requested in the reservation. Then after she rolled her eyes, moved us to the worst table in the restaurant. My husband had to get the manager and we were moved again into the main dining room. The food was good not excellent. It was a special occasion and all the drama just to seat us when we had a reservation wasn't necessary."

"We had the soft shell crab special which was nicely prepared and the lasagne - both were delicious. Nice selection - fish, meats, Italian dishes, pizza, antipasti and a great location near Carnegie Hall and Columbus Circle. Food is always perfectly prepared and selection ensures that there is something to please everyone."

"The warm welcome started when I entered. The bread arrived shortly. The waiter was helpful and efficient. The food was delicious. We shared a main dish and it came split. Since the portions are large this was a good idea. At the end of the meal there was a surprise of delicious cookies. It left such a pleasant feeling; I felt valued."

"Arrived an hour earlier than reserved time after seeing Jersey Boys and had no problem being seated. Food and service were both excellent. Ordered the Yellow Fin Tuna w/ Balsamic Glaze and thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend. My wife liked but not loved the Lasagna which I found very good so we ended up swapping dishes which ended up to be a win-win for us both. As for dessert the Cannolis were amazing. A very enjoyable meal to top off a very enjoyable show."

"i had not been here in awhile, but the food was so very much better than it used to be. (altho always good, it was never outstanding.) the vegetarian pizza was spectacular, and this is one of the few places i've been able to get burrata, which was also delicious, and made me feel like i was bk in italy. the wines were a little pricey, but also quite good....and our server was helpful with our choice, and very attentive. i will definitely start coming bk here when in the carnegie hall area."

"Dining here is a true NY experience. From the moment you enter, you are greeted with a NY warmth that is like no other. The warmth continues with the staff who is friendly and helpful, not to mention courteous. The food selection is what you would expect, but at the same time more so. You will not be disappointed and might indeed have trouble selecting. Whatever you do select you will not be disappointed. The wine list is good, so have no concern there. All is reasonably priced, but remember, it is NY. When making reservations, request a booth."

"I came to the city on may 4th and 5th with 3 of my family members .. I had made my reservations for 830 pm on the forth for 4 people.. I want to be sure to let manager know that our ( first time) experience with your facility was superb!! The kind greater hostess and waitstaff were top notch .. My only small complaint would be the salad I ordered was much to salty to eat( beet pair salad) but deserts and drinks were good .. Great enough to fill me up.. Thank everyone for making our visit to NYC even better. Sincerely Michele Taber"

"I loved the seafood dish, my husband had the duck. Well that's it, it just comes with a small piece of duck, no veggies, no salad. The duck wasn't that good. I won't be returning."

"I love this NYC spot! Good Italian food and an antipasti bar that is to die for! I found this place on the recommendation of a local bartender and it hit the jackpot. I have been back with friends on every NY visit since. The staff is over the top in accommodating dinners and the food is amazing! An overall great experience I look forward to enjoying again on my next trip! Bon appetite!"

"We enjoyed our meal 4 years ago. This time back to the city for a show and dinner, we decided to give this restaraunt a second chance to dazzle us. It did. The food was great! The Wait Staff were so gracious and accommodating. The Waiter gave great recommendations, as far as a wine recomendation and a selection for dinner. We SO enjoyed our evening and both agree that we would come back again."

"Based on our recent visit this place has gone seriously downhill. The antipasto is still pretty good but all four at my table had really blah entrees, whether pasta, fish, or risotto. Desserts were not too good either. Only the prices were exciting and not in a good way."

"This was our second time eating here in two months. We arrived on time for our 9:45 reservation on a Saturday night and were seated immediately. The waiter was friendly and helpful. Antipasto was outstanding. I had marinated eggplant and carmelized fennel; my wife had grilled calarmari. Both were wonderful. I had the pasta with sausage in a tomato sauce; it was excellent. Spicy, but not overpowering. Dessert was also excellent. We'll be back."

"There are so many dining choices in NYC, but we chose to return to Trattoria Dell'Arte. We were warmly welcomed. Appetizers were outstanding: artichokes, meatballs, and fresh mozzarella and prosciutto. Listen to the waiter on their specialties and order those. Husband had the tordella bolognese. Delicious. Friend had seafood risotto and raved about it. Highly recommend this restaurant!"

"I had the scallops on a salad. For $30, I had the smallest little thin scallops on a mundane salad -- for that price?? Small portions and nothing special! Can find a 100 other restaurants in NY to dine, and most of my NY friends don't rec this place because it's too touristy."

"Always a solid choice. Great food, attentive service. Atmosphere a little stuffy, but the place itself isn't. (Lots of old-school New Yorkers, who may stare at you if you're under 40, but it's worth braving the looks for the great food and service.)"

"It was a great location across from Carnegie Hall. The food was good, the service seemed a bit rushed. The noise level was loud. It felt a bit cramped and the waiter kept bumping my chair every time he passed. The desserts were really good and very large."
