Marea Ristorante, located in one of Manhattans most storied addresses, features Chef Michael White's ode to Italian seafood. From his trademark handmade pastas to his fresh crudo and whole fish, Chef White is committed to reinventing the notion of seafood in New York.
"This is a special place, not the fanciest, but still very special, not the most daring for foodies, but very nice atmosphere and wonderful Italian cuisine; we each enjoyed our dishes. I thought the soft shelled crab was outstanding. My daughter loved the ravioli. Those were the stand outs of the evening. I plan to go there again when I am next in NYC."

"The wine list was questionable and prices were unfortunately high with few viable options if one wanted to stay under $150 per bottle. The veal chop was good and ample. All of the other dishes were unsubstantial."

"On each of our last four visits to NY, we've had lunch or brunch at Marea's. Moreover, we've sent friends and relatives there to savor the great meals produced in Marea's kitchen. If we're in the city for more than two days, more likely than not, we'll have a meal there."

"I went to Marea late on a Friday night on a double date and we all had a great time. We are younger in age (22-23) and decided to try out a nice restaurant and we were not disappointed.
The menu was excellent, making the ordering process difficult as so much of the food seemed fantastic.
The ambiance was great and the customers around us were lively and 'fun' which I found surprising for a restaurant with such a great reputation (I was expecting a more pompous crowd).
The four of us had a great time and I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates good food."

"Intrigued by the many appealing choices on the menu, we selected the tasting menu. The seafood, uniformly cooked perfectly,(lightly), included a great variety of fish, styles and flavors. We especially loved the lobster with burrata, pasta with sea urchin and crab, and scallops. The room is very modern and sleek with an active street level park view, without any street sounds. We felt the service could have been more attentive to match the food and ambiance."

"I visited this restaurant primarily because of its Michelin diamonds & Italian cuisine. Upon arrival, we were seated without delay. The waiter was very impersonal & not familiar with their wine list - "all our red wines are dry". Service was slow which resulted in us leaving in a rush to make an after dinner engagement even though they were made aware in advance of the time that we needed to leave & had over 2 hours to serve our meal. I had the four course Prix Fixe Menu. The Moleche & Garganelli were average & nothing to write home about. The Capesante entree was better but still not outstanding. My overall impression was that the restaurant is over-rated compared to other restaurants I've dined at in NYC & unlikely to visit again."

"We went to Marea for dinner on a Monday night at 9 pm, which was the only time we could get a reservation from a week in advance, and it was totally full. We ordered from the raw bar, which came very quickly, but unfortunately we had to wait over an hour for our antipasti to arrive. I received a half glass of wine on the house, while my dining partner didn't receive anything. They really could have taken more of an effort to compensate for the slow pace of the kitchen, especially at those prices. That being said, the food was delicious and I would without a doubt go back. Pasta dishes have great portions, and the octopus antipasto was fantastic. Definitely give Marea a try."

"The dinner was outstanding. The sepia crudo (aka squid sashimi) may be a bit of fusion but I prefer it to the Japanese version. The fusilli with octopus and bone marrow are a great creation. The branzino (for two) was done to perfection. I liked each of the three cheeses. In the end we were full. Wine list has something for everyone, form 2 to 5 digits. We found a white Ornellaia which went famously with our meal. The tables are reasonably sized and spaced. We were seated next to the service cupboard, but that was not a distraction. Service was attentive without being overbearing. The total price of $350 for two fixed-price dinners and wine, before tax and tip, was in my mind eminently reasonable. I would go back in a heartbeat."

"My boyfriend and I loved the appetizers which were intricate, beautifully plated, and delicious. The entrees tasted good but not memorable. If we were to dine there again, might just plan our own full appetizer meal. The dishes were brought out rather slowly. We were treated with courtesy upon arriving. But with a different person offering to explain the menu, 1 taking our order, 1 refilling the water (rather infrequently), and yet someone else bringing the bread; it felt rather impersonal. I don't recall anyone asking how our meal was going and left with little impression of any of the staff."

"Marea is simply one of the best, most gorgeous Italian restaurants in NY. The setting -- just on Central Park South off of the Time Warner Center, can't be beat. The tables are well spaced and the look is quite wonderful. Service is outstanding. While not inexpensive, Marea offers some amazingly interesting dishes. For starters you cannot top the octopus appie ---- huge, with delectable smoked potatoes; My buddy had a seafood app that was also good. We both had pastas -- I reveled in the Duck ragu --- flavorful, fresh and delicious. He had the Pipette -- shrimp pasta that was out of this world. We had Proseccos, a nice Dolcetto and desserts and cappuccinos. Then on to Carnegie Hall --- what a night! Tough reservation, but worth it!"

"The food is excellent. The service has a lot of room for improvement. It took too long to get to our table. They could have offered us a drink in the bar. Time between each dish is more than acceptable,"

"Attentive without being stuffy. The crudo, seafood, and pasta are excellent. Had the four course dinner (well priced at $99-with certain choices adding an additional $8-$30). A good wine list with several moderately priced choices. The room is pretty and fairly quiet--well spaced tables allow for conversation. Every visit here has been a pleasure."

"My girlfriend and I had her birthday dinner at Marea and it was everything I had hoped for and more. The food was exquisite and the service was amazing! They even brought my girlfriend a (free) dessert with a birthday candle and an edible "happy birthday" sign on the dessert plate. The server was right on top of things and the wine experts were very helpful since their wine list is pages long."

"The grilled octopus appetizer was amazing-the octopus was cooked perfectly and the flavors of the dish were rich and delicious. I actually preferred the octopus appetizer over the octopus fussili, which they are supposedly known for (it was quite good). We did the 4 course menu, and enjoyed our experience up until the entrees were cleared. After they cleared our table, our waiter completely forgot about us for over 30 minutes. We were never given dessert menus and our waiter (Mark) repeatedly walked by our table, served the couples on either side of us, yet ignored us. We actually had to yell after him to get his attention finally, and at that point we had no time for dessert. I would not return to Marea due to the service."

"From the greeting by the host to service of the cheque, this was hands-down one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Mind you, it's not the most inexpensive restaurant in Manhattan, but you definitely get what you pay for... The wait staff and sommelier are knowledgeable, polite, attentive without being obtrusive and friendly offering suggestions on what turned out to be the best parts of the meal. Bravo!"

"Some friends and I went for lunch. The wait staff was professional, helpful and attentive. All the dining recommendations were accurate. I had the crab appetizer and tagliata steak. Both were outstanding. We shared a reasonably priced Vermentino that paired well with everyone's choices. We also shared the chocolate strata for desert. it was so enjoyable to dine at a leisurely pace, converse, and feel like it was a "dining experience". I'm already planning my next visit."

"Our meal at Marea was exceptional. We both did the 4 course tasting menu and found each course to be really well composed... incredibly layered flavors with beautiful touches on every plate. The braised octopus bone marrow fusilli pasta is a must try dish! Fish is perfectly cooked, or in the case of the crudo perfectly prepared. We loved the desserts as well. A great meal from start to finish and well deserving of the Michelin stars."

"Thinking this would be a 2nd rate "Le Bernadin," I begrudgingly agreed to meet my wife here pre-Carnegie. She has been here before for business and although she was impressed then, we were both delighted with our meal at Marea. In fact, this dinner superseded our more recent experiences at Bernadin in both cuisine and the impeccable service at Marea. Definitely worthwhile."
