Divided into two distinct areas – a wine bar and restaurant – RN74 offers a unique food and wine experience suitable for all guests, built around a world-class wine list and creative, modern, but simple interpretations of regional French cuisine. "I went to RN74 to celebrate a special occasion with a group of friends. The restaurant asked what the occasion was and unexpectedly provided us with a bit of champagne to celebrate. Overall the staff was very friendly and helped us with choosing an excellent wine for dinner as well. Of course the food was very tasty and well prepared."

"RN74 is with out a doubt a great place for foodies with lungs to yell. From the looks of it, it's a quiet, romantic eatery, but due to the bar that takes up 1/3 of the restaurant, the noise level is usually pretty loud. If you're looking for a quiet place to dine with your date, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for an upbeat place with great food, this is your place."

"We had a great time, my girlfriends birthday and we were out for FUN. From the start to the finish a exceptional experience. Our waiter was very personable and took great care of us. The Tuna Cruso was to die for, the mushroom pasta paired beautifully with the Burgundy, and the wine list was beyond approach. We even had the opportunity to chat it up wity Raj their Sommelier, a man after my own heart, or should I say he helps me with my Burgundy addiction.

"We attended RN74 on a recommendation and what a great one it was. Terrific ambience, service and food. I could not be critical of one thing at this restaurant. It wasn't cheap, but great food in San Francisco and such good service............what do you expect?
The food was great. Waiting staff who knew what they were talking about, weren't pretentious and knew about the wines and food. The lighting and the setting were excellent. Staff were welcoming and friendly and afterwards, I just left feeling I had a great dinner and would want to go back again in future."

"Fun place to grab a drink after work. Food was just ok. Ordered the Wagyu beef for $38, got 4 slices of beef, 2 were cooked rare (which I ordered) the other 2 slices were WAY over cooked and tasted like they picked it out of a stew. They certainly weren't cut from the same chop. Wine list was 95% international with a minimum price of $200. The Red from Chile was a terrible recommendation. My wife ordered the scallops and those were just ok. It was served on a green pea sauce that tasted like something I'd feed a toddler. A for effort, B- for food, B+ for service."

"Great restaurant when you are in the mood for something a little different. The menu has a few entree selections, but there is something for everyone there. Service is great; staff is friendly and efficient. This is definitely a place to celebrate a special occasion, and they seem to accommodate groups quite well."

"Our fourth visit together and had another great experience, probably our best yet! Each dish memorable visually and for taste. We had the beets and burrata, grilled squid, halibut,pork belly, coffee eclair and, of course, the beignets. No clear favorite, although the grilled squid tastes are still fresh on our palette.

"The dining room had many open tables. It was not a busy night. Our rservation was at 8:15 we arrived early at 7:15pm and we asked to be seated early if it was possible. We waited at the bar the whole time. At 8:20pm many tables were empty. We were wondering why they weren't seating us. we asked the hostess if our table is coming up. She answerd if you ready we will seat you now. We were ready since 7:15pm. Apperently she forgot to seat us on such slow night. Host desk was poorly run."

"The wine list and service were excellent, but the food was disappointing. I had their sautéed scallops, cauliflower and gnocchi main. The cauliflower was steam table mush and the gnocchi -- also cooked long before service -- were largely tasteless. The scallops (3 of them, for $32) were properly cooked but not well seasoned. Maybe the problem was that I ate early on a Monday night before catching a red eye to the East coast. There are great restaurants in San Francisco. RN74 isn't one of them, or at least wasn't that night."

"RN 74 has been my go to restaurant for a business lunch. I haven't eatn there for several months, and we all noticed that the food was being priced beyond what I think was reasonable. For example, we all noticed the price of the soup, which was in our opinion beyond reason. I will now look for other more reasonably priced restaurants."

"My first time at RN74, though clearly I was late to the party given the crowd. A truly extensive wine list featured French mainstays at high prices, but the slightly more obscure wines were under-represented. The surprisingly informal but truly knowledgeable sommelier saved the day by directing me to a separate section of special picks.
The bone marrow appetizer was very good, although the gremolata over-represented and the "bacon marmalade" too crumbly and hard to work with. The octupus first course was excellent; balanced flavors and great textures. My wagyu main was rich and delicious and my dining companion's duck was cooked and sauced perfectly.
I left happy with a consistently very good, but not amazing, dining experience."

"For a place this pricey - that makes you aware from the getgo that the portion size is going to make you order both a starter and a main course - I was expecting to have my mind blown by how delicious the food was. It wasn't. It was just okay. Don't bother. And let me just add, that putting 6 tiny green beans on a plate with a small piece of fish is not an entree. Please."

"The vibe for us was that RN74 is good, standard, corporate fare.
This is a wonderful place if you want an evening out at place where you'll enjoy the vibe more than the food.
A super safe place for a first or second date ... nice bar, great setting ... the food, while mostly under seasoned, is respectable ... our server was very attentive and professional.
RN74 is wonderfully OK but for delicious French Bouche and Le P'tit Laurent would definitely be worth considering as alternatives."

"I've dined here several times for business lunch and dinners. It has been very consistent, excellent food and service, except on this visit. I'm hoping it was just an off night, but now I'm hesitant to return with a client. We ordered an aperitif and it didn't arrive until well after we were served our salads. Then, then wine we ordered came well after we received our entrees and a well after finishing our first drinks. Everyone was friendly, and the food still very good, but it was out of sync and I hope when I return this will not be the experience."

"Overall not impressed with RN74. We did attend for the Easter brunch so maybe the normal menu would be more tastefull. I had the fish for my main course and felt it was extremely bland. We had to actually ask the server for bread when every other table around us was plentiful with bread. My friend is a manager at a restaurant in the Embarcadero area so this overview comes from knowing what is good service and what is note. Also I think they were the only place in town that did not have a deal on mimosa's. I mean come on $12 for a mimosa on Easter? Overall not impressed. Happy hour and ambiance seems like the only thing I will come back for."

"Upon being told that our table was "being set up," my fiance and I waited at the bar for a drink. The bar was empty, with not a bartender in sight. After waiting approximately 7-10 minutes, I went back to the hostess table and asked if we could get service. After being seated at our table for dinner and given our menus, we were ignored for a minimum of 15 minutes. We were told by our server to "mull over the menu and I'll be right back." She passed our table multiple times and did not come and take our orders, even with our menus closed. We became very impatient and unhappy. My fiance returned to the hostess table, and informed them of the wait. He was told, "we'll get right on it." After waiting another 5 minutes, our server returned."

"Haven't been for some time. Revamped menu made it hard to make choices. Of course we gorged on the fried brussels sprouts, and I had a great salad and Spanish squid which was excellent. Shared a meyer lemon tart--a little sweet perfect for ending the meal."

"Everything was very good - esp. the food - but i was given caffenated coffee when I asked for de-caf AND I asked the bus person when she was pouring if it was de-caf and she said yes - but i don't think she understood much. I wanted to call her - or somebody at 2:15am when I was still trying to get to sleep."

"I've eaten here twice now and I can't describe how good the food is. Their menu items are very unique (not in a weird way), flavorful, and come in good sized portions. Deserts are fantastic and creative as well. The service is impeccable. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Decor is what I would call French modern, but comfortable. Prices are decent too for the quality and portions. I highly recommend RN74."

"The ambiance of RN74 was especially outstanding as was the Skillet Burger. I specifically enjoyed the caramelized onions on top of the burger. The service was great, my water glass was never empty before a server cam by to refill it. I really enjoyed everything about RN74."
