"This is one of my "go-to" restaurants. The food is almost always outstanding, although I do miss the butternut squash soup and the pear salad. I will continue to have lunch there as there is always something we find on the menu that is excellent!
Thank you!"

"We had dinner at Weathervane recently - service was terrible. Waiter disappeared for long periods of time without checking to see how we were doing. My wife ordered a mojito - awful - watered down taste with an artificial taste. When the waiter finally returned to our table, we told him and ordered a bloddy mary to replace the mojito. Just as awful for the same reasons.
Food - ordered the salmon - not thorughly cooked - was raw and cold in the center. Wife ordered shrimp and grits - was OK but not the best we ever had. For a restaurant with a chef that was the overall champion of the "Fire" competition for the state of North Carolina, the quality of the food was very disappointing."

"We very much enjoyed our meal, but the restaurant is sort-of crammed into a corner of the Southern Season store (which is well-worth a visit in it's own right). It's very confusing to figure out how to get in and out of the restaurant (as not all entrances are exits). Four of us were seated at a table for two, which may have seated three comfortably. There were plenty of free tables, but they are all small. This wan't a deal breaker, as the food was unbelievable, but I'd stay away if you want to feed a group of anything beyond two."

"Took my mother out to lunch for an early Mother's Day celebration. We were shown promptly to an outside table, under an awning, very comfortable. Beautiful flowering vines, plants, and lovely umbrellas decorated the outside eating area. The service was good, attentive, but it took a few minutes to get dessert menu, then the check and the waitress did not ask if I wanted more tea. The food came out quickly-chicken salad on a croissant, and just chicken salad, were very delicious. The sweet potato fries were excellent. Would definitely eat there again for a special occasion lunch or just anytime."

"Disappointed in entree- black eyed pea & avocado cakes were mush that was pretty tasteless. Mom's blue cheese macaroni and cheese was too liquidy. Service was so -so. This used to be a restaurant with unique and delicious dishes. Not so much anymore."

"The Weathervane always has interesting and delicious food. I had the chicken pesto "bruschetta" with sweet potato fries and my husband had the chicken salad with almonds and a bowl of roasted red pepper soup. We've been there twice for lunch now and both times my husband ordered a sandwich and soup and asked that his soup be delivered with his meal. The first time he never got his soup. In fact, we never saw our waiter between the time he took our order and when he delivered our check. This time, our waitress checked on us as soon as the food was delivered and when my husband said he didn't get his soup, she brought him some right away. Something about their system doesn't work if you want your soup with your meal. Great place for lunch."

"Aside from enjoying our lunch, we appreciated having a waiter who recognized our need to talk and did not rush us. After I returned home and realized my pin had fallen off, I called to find out if it had been turned in. The hostess asked where we sat and I held on the phone while she looked. Good news! She found it and said they would hold it for me. What a great experience."

"A little too pricey for what you get. Nice steak but it could have come with something a bit more sophisticated than steak fries. The butternut squash soup was excellent as an appetizer. Fresh berries sabayon could have been a touch cooler."

"Weathervane is our "go-to" for date night. The service was a bit slower and not as attentive as usual, but it certainly won't stop us from going back. The food is great, we like the wine list, and I love the chocolate cake for dessert."

"Nice place with good food, but slooooowwwwww for brunch! I've been here twice for Sunday brunch in the last few months, and both times there was AT LEAST 45 minutes between ordering and receiving food. It's very tasty, but (especially if you go on Sunday), don't show up too hungry because you'll have to wait."

"Everything was very good except the restaurant is very noisy--especially the back near the courtyard. There is nothing acoustical to absorb the sound, so it is difficult to have a conversation due to the necessity of having to talk above everyone else."

"A good, basic restaurant attached to Chapel Hill's gem of a specialty food/wine/cooking gear store, Southern Seasons. Food is uninspired but solid. Service is quite good. One caution: if you want to have a business conversation, do not rely on making a reservation as you will still be seated first come, first served. Tables upstairs are further apart."

"Sunday brunch at 1 pm, table of six. Restaurant seemed moderately busy, but it took a long time for the waiter to take our orders and an extremely long time for our food to arrive. Waiter checked by once and I asked for a coffee refill. He did not return with coffee. We have dined here many times before and knew that this place does not usually have quick service but on Sunday it was awful. Food was OK, not hot. Other areas of the restaurant must have had better servers. We saw saw several friends arrive and depart while we were waiting for our waiter."

"The service was not good. Early reservation to allow time for dessert and coffee before theatre. Specifically noted this to server. Despite very simple orders, mainly salads with seafood/meat, it took nearly an hour for our meal--leaving no time for coffee or dessert. We had to ask our server twice about our order and noted that other tables were served before us. Doubt we will go back unless we have unlimited time."

We were allowed to eat and socialize as long as we wanted without anyone hovering over us. It was a perfectly delightful experience! We will return many times."

"Service was soooo slow. Fried Green Tomato Sandwich isn't what it used to be! Two VERY small, very thinly sliced tomatoes covered in batter. After years of bringing out of town guests to eat and shop here, I think it is time to find another venue."

"Very disappointed with table location. Seated at 1p on a Tuesday in the rear dining room. While we were still eating the staff started to rearrange the tables...we were the only table left in the room...to prepare for whatever was going to occur in that room afterwards. It was VERY noisy. After those preparations started we hardly saw our waiter until he arrived with the bill. I've never had such an experience at the Weathervane before so I'm confident I'll revisit them but was highly disappointed with the lack of thoughtfulness of the staff."

"Brunch after church on Sunday with friends. Good choices for both breakfast and lunch. I went for breakfast, scrambled eggs and bacon, and it was good. But the star of the meal was the giant biscuit served along with the eggs. It was warm, fluffy, and with a crispy exterior. And did I mention it was big? The table comfortably sat the 6 of us, but there was a cool draft blowing on us. The waitress said she could fix that, but never did. Nor did she check back. They were not very busy. I was disappointed in the service over all."

"In my opinion, The Weathervane has the best food in Chapel Hill. The Sweettea Salmon is always perfect and the Shrimp and Grits is full of huge shrimp and uses bacon, not sausage. The Sweet Potato and Apple soup is really good. This my go-to place when friends or family visit. Being attached to A Southern Season is an added bonus!"

"I can always count on Weathervane for a great meal. The sweet potato and apple bisque was delicious, as was the spring vegetable cavatelli. Both were perfect for a late dinner on a rainy evening."

"Weathervane had been on our "must-do"list for some time and itwas a pleasurable experience. The service was freidnly, timely and efficiant. Thefood was above average but the chef seemed to stretch to be different. Fried chicken (a filet) was outstanding but crabcakes were underdone. Everything leaned toward spicy with liberal use of a variety of peppers. Woiuld go back but not at the top of the list."

"Stay away from a restaurant that only has one party seated at 8:00 p.m. with a gigantic dining area on a Sunday night when a lot of people are expected to attend UNC's admission information tour! Nothing we ordered tasted right: The Cavatelli, recommended by our server, tasted funny, with too many items going on, and some old tasting tomatoes. The airplane chicken with Spaetzel had no flavor, lots of gooey sauce which couldn't be remedied with a ton of salt added; the mac and cheese, again recommended by our server, was flavorless... and very small, though he had said it was large enough for an entree. AVOID this restaurant at all costs!"

"The Weathervane Restaurant was a very pleasant dining experience. They allowed us to split our appetizers and entres, which was nice since most restaurant servings are too big for one person. The suggested wine was delicious. The main course was a bit over spiced, but our waitperson had warned us, so we might own a bit of that failure. All in all very nice."

"You may not like what I am about to say? But I hope it will help you. The food was at best poor quality. My pork chop had the smell and taste of being "old". Not very well cooked or was cooked very quickly. The servicer was hard to find at times and I had to ask him to bring my change after ten minutes of waiting. It was not the experience I had hope for or had been told it would be. I do hope that my review will help. Most people whould not tell you. They just would not return. I tell you. BUT! I have no plans to return."
